Kepa Lehtinen has today released his new EP titled ‘Dark’. Music is one of the best ways to invoke an emotion. What sets Kepa apart is his music can define those emotions and transition them into long-lasting memories. That is the talent of a true artist. ‘Dark’ is a somber set of tracks, or chapters, if you will. A unique blend of instrumentation amid an even more original style of conveyance that sets the listener apart and into his/her world. This music lives in the mind via the heart and through the soul.

As brooding as ‘Dark’ gets, it never needs you to ‘catch up’. It simply is. It moves at your pace as your pace allows, much like a solid companion. It’s not until later that you realize the atmosphere was set by you, and that Kepa contributed the inspiration.

About Kepa Lehtinen & ‘Dark’

Acclaimed Finnish composer Kepa Lehtinen released his latest EP Dark on March 19, 2025. The four-song effort features a prominent horror/romance mood that’s the perfect feel for Kepa’s engaging performances on Theremin, Mellotron, and piano. These legendary but unique electronic instruments are seldom heard in contemporary classical music but give Kepa an artistic edge and identity that’s unmatched in the modern scene.

The Theremin, a hands-free, gesture-controlled instrument of Russian origin, and the Mellotron, a keyboard-based precursor to the present-day synthesizer, date back to the mid-20th Century. They create otherworldly sounds that have helped Lehtinen build a global audience for his music and achieve millions of streams.

Kepa’s use of his instruments has evolved on Dark. “I notice that my sound is now more pad-like,” he said. “In the arrangement, the instruments merge into one wall of sound. The Theremin makes the sound image organic and the Mellotron’s wandering tune makes the sound picture big.” Listeners will also notice the wonderfully eerie tones Lehtinen conjured from the acoustic double bass.

Kepa Lehtinen is a composer and multi-instrumentalist from Finland. He has built a solid reputation in recent years for short, atmospheric tracks that connect traditional and electronic sounds. Lehtinen is also a film/TV composer whose work has been used in countless broadcasts. His most visible recent project was creating the music for the internationally-released television series Made in Finland/Mobile 101, now available on Disney+. He has studied sound design at Aalto University and owns a recording studio.

Lehtinen is also a husband, father, and dedicated skateboarder who feels that music is the only true magic in the world. He’s grateful and amazed that people all over the planet listen to his music.
