Kepa Lehtinen has today released his new single and video titled ‘Lost Opportunities’. Kepa is an artist who has continually astounded me. Not just with his vast musical abilities, but with his ear for originality and atmospheric sound. I would consider him a part time minimalist. Knowing when not to play and where each note should go. His music is more than just there. It is a personal expression. His choice use of instrumental collaborations, such as the piano and Mellotron, for example, are meant to surround you and spark your imagination. Creating a world around you to get lost in. Bringing a tear to your eye and a warmth to your heart.

‘Lost Opportunities’ is the next step in the quiet evolution of Kepa’s music. Letting you know that you don’t have to pack your music with lyrics in order to get a feeling across. The music is the muse and leaves everything much more to interpretation. This brings everything to a more personal level when you take this in. It’s not so much defined unless you define it. And that is what truly makes good music what it is; a part of you.

About Kepa Lehtinen & ‘Lost Opportunities’

Finland’s Kepa Lehtinen, one of today’s most vital modern composers, is enthused to announce the release of a new work “Lost Opportunities” on October 23, 2024.

The piece is a ballad written for Lehtinen’s frequent instrumental combination of piano, theremin, and double bass but also features the sound of a vintage Mellotron M400. The Mellotron is an electro-mechanical keyboard instrument that uses analog tape loops to produce each note. It was a predecessor to the modern synthesizer and was used by The Beatles, Yes, Genesis, and other forward-thinking rock artists. Its unique textures add another intriguing dimension to Lehtinen’s always-compelling mix.

“Lost Opportunities” also gives listeners another dose of Kepa’s ethereal theremin playing. The theremin is a touchless electronic instrument that’s played with hand gestures that interact with the device’s sensors that control pitch and volume. It produces an eerie, violin-like tone. Lehtinen has a way with it that’s like few others and has made the theremin a crucial part of his sound.

The track is a melancholy and emotive piece that builds on the sentiment of its title. It touches the parts of the heart that contain the treasures we couldn’t keep. It makes listeners remember the feelings they’ll never get back and accept their absence with grace. It’s another outstanding example of Lehtinen’s talent and unerring vision.

Kepa Lehtinen is a modern classical composer and multi-instrumentalist from Finland. He has made a name for himself in recent years with his short, atmospheric works that connect traditional and electronic sounds. Lehtinen is also a prominent film/tv composer whose work has been used in countless broadcasts. His most important recent project was doing the music for the internationally-released television series Made in Finland/Mobile 101, now available on Disney+.
