Naylor’s Notes: You Me and Dougie

    You Me and Dougie are:
Anthony Doria – Rhythm & Lead Vocals
    Roy Butler – Bass
    Brian Pincus – Drums

    Naylor’s Note’s:
You can definitely feel that they have a family type of vibe on stage. They get ahold of their instruments, and the rest just comes natural. The 1st thing that had got my attention was the way they vibe with each other on stage.

Every musician will have their fair share of up’s and down’s. This is surely not an issue in, “You, Me and Dougie” They are very compelling, hardworking, and achieving. They keep doing what they love in the best way that they can all while letting nothing get in their way. That is exactly what I felt in their performance was just that. A sort of vibe packed with a lot of stage presence, and dynamite.

Anthony does music full-time while Roy is a quiet fella’ who might be one of the best Bass players’ that you will ever see. As soon as the music stop’s, every hair on the back of that vibe is sure to stand straight up.

They keep their stage suede most comfortable, and keep up the attention of every person in the crowd. The fact that they play their original songs as if you’ve heard them before is both, “Brilliant, and bold.” This is an experience you will not want to miss. They have enough material to fill two, 4 hour shows, and will keep going even after the doors are locked. They will continue to do what they love, “with” their fans.

Roy however is not allowed shot’s until after the 1st half of the show. He will fall off the stage, and I quote. “Roy’s not dead!!!” Go to a show or the interview segment for details. I have also been convinced that every female in the crowd will want to be Anthony’s Woodstock girl after the show is over.

Roy Slapping that bass, Brian Pincus on drums, and Anthony Doria on Backwards guitar & vocals. I must say this band is packed with originality, and passion! They play through all of their mistakes, if any mistakes at all, and are very proud of what they do all while staying humble. This is something they love; packing the passion it takes to create the power needed on stage.

    Go to a show!!!

Imminence Records Sign Cries Of The Captive, Set to Reissue ‘Imperialist’

Imminence Records are pleased to announce that they have signed Utah deathcore outfit Cries Of The Captive. Lead Guitarist Jordan Huemiller had this to say on the signing, “We are beyond excited for the opportunity to work with Imminence Records. This is a monumental step in our career as musicians, and we are happy to be able to work with such great people. We have massive plans for the rest of the year and 2015.” With label owner Ryan Williford adding, “When I first heard Imperialist, I knew the band had what it took to be the next Chelsea Grin or Suicide Silence. The current lineup is full of highly talented musicians dedicated to their craft.”

FOR FANS OF: Depths, Molotov Solution, Oceano

In the first two years as a band, having formed in 2011, the band underwent numerous member changes that eventually led them to the lineup that recorded their independently released breakthrough EP, entitled Imperialist, back in December. The Dan Jones (Chelsea Grin guitarist) produced EP, which features four tracks of in-your-face brutal deathcore that is unrelenting throughout the fifteen minute runtime, will be reissued September 9th while the band finishes writing for their 2015 full length label debut.

    About Cries Of The Captive:
Cries of the Captive formed in early 2011 by Tyler Conner and Jordan Huemiller who early on recruited guitarist Quinton Udink, drummer Matt Barnette, and bassist Billie Olsen into the band. A few months after completing the lineup, Quinton and Matt left the band and sparked a long hunt for new members. The band eventually welcomed new drummer Kyler Loughlin and new guitarist Skyler Dustin, however, with the joining of the two new members they were forced to part ways with bassist Billie Olsen. Quickly after, bassist Mason Blair joined the band, forming the lineup that would be known as Cries of the Captive throughout 2012. In early 2013, the band and Tyler Conner went their separate ways; not wanting major changes in their lineup, Cries Of The Captive moved former bassist Mason over to vocals and brought in bassist Jake Makley.

December 22nd, 2013 saw the release of the Imperialist EP, renowned for its powerful rhythms, unique sound and low, guttural vocal styles alongside haunting harmonies; the album had been recorded alongside the mastery of technician Dan Jones, who is the guitarist of Chelsea Grin. With one final lineup change of Nate Barnes coming in to play bass, Cries of the Captive has set out to take 2014 by storm. More ready now than ever before, the metal outfit is poised to take the music industry in full force as they enter their third year, and refine their skills, not only as a band, but as performers. The band announced their signing to Imminence Records in late July, and is currently working on their first full length to be released in 2015.

XOVA: When 9 Lives Are Not Enough

True working class heroes from multi racial and generational backgrounds, XOVA are the UK’s best Pop/Reggae outfit currently rocking the circuit. Masters of their vibrant and muscular sound, their vision nods the cap to their musical and social roots, whilst keeping a modern and current stance on urban socio-political unrest issues; and taking fire from affairs of the heart. They fuse ska, pop, dub, motown, blues and folk with protest, pain – and hope.

XOVA (pronounced ‘Cross-Over’) hold a strong sense of community. Their film called ‘The Sound of Birmingham’, features UB40, The Beat, Wonderstuff and many more talking about the Birmingham music scene people and sense of humor.

Their new single ‘Your To Blame’ see’s XOVA collaborate with Dee from Benefit Street (C4), featured in a double page spread in the Daily Star. This is to be followed by an EP called ‘Little Lion’, with proceeds going to Crohns UK Charity after singer Wayne’s sister was diagnosed with the disease. They are no strangers to the hardships of life: Close friends have been killed in unwanted wars in Iraq, and drummer Skins’ son was mistakenly shot dead during the Birmingham gang wars. These hard experiences have left their mark – and the band are determined to use their music as a way for bringing some light to the dark.

Doing so has seen them support the likes of The Spin Doctors The Beat, The Selector and Ali Campbell (UB40), and perform at The Isle Of Wight Festival as ‘Best Unsigned Band In The UK’. They are now embarking on a UK Tour to promote the single and coming EP, including a showcase at Brighton’s prestigious The Great Escape Festival. Expect some proper shenanigans: previous tours have included stage invasions by leg-humping dwarves; customs arrests after attempts to smuggle boiled eggs across borders in Bahrain; and mistakenly stealing and breaking ancient arrows from members of the Sioux Reservation after forgetting drum sticks for a TV performance.

    Video: FJORDS – Sulwyn

    From wearefjords.co.uk:
FJORDS, Wales’ finest purveyors of indie electronica return with their new single, “Sulwyn” on 14th July, 2014. “Sulwyn” pronounced, sill-win is a traditional Welsh christian name that means,’bright as the sun’. The track is released via the band’s own Crookedman Records.

Drawing on influences that range from Japan, Gary Numan, Joy Division and Simple Minds “Sulwyn” marks a shift towards a more thoughtful late seventies, early eighties sound. Singer Sonny Dagur

penned the lyrics whilst in Brooklyn and describes the song as ‘a bit of a letter to myself’. “Sulwyn” was recorded at Monnow Valley and is FJORD’s fourth independent release. The band choose the striking artwork to accompany the release by emerging digital artist Rognvald Leslie of The Faroe Islands.

Formed in 2010 FJORDS came together following a Steve Lamacq interview on BBC 6 Music. At the time Sonny’s old band, Don’t Tread On Spiders were breaking up, Sonny seized the moment and used the Lamacq radio interview to advertise for band members. Happily for all concerned FJORDS were the result.

FJORDS play The London Welsh Sessions on Friday 6th June at The London Welsh Centre, Gray’s Inn Road WC1 plus a special show on 11th July from Acapela Studios, (site of the recent Gruff Rhys American Interiors album launch) where their set will be streamed worldwide from this converted chapel outside Cardiff. FJORDS plan to further experiment with new technologies hosting a series of live Google Hangout chats plus using QR Code and NFC tags on posters allowing fans to download “Sulwyn” for free.

FJORDS are Sonny Dagur – Vocals & guitar, Alex Mann – Bass & vocals, Scott Bradburn – Guitar, Gareth Bodman – Synths, Hannah Mathias – drums & drum pads.

Airplay support for FJORDS includes Amazing Radio, BBC Radio Wales & Nation Radio.

    Video: Super bob – Freak

    Lyrics:
I seen your 7 figure grin from across the room
I see your patience are short with all these dancing fools
I see that you’re the type of girl that likes a tattoo
I seen the way you looked at me when I came walking through
So don’t hesitate, blow a single night left alone
Now don’t let the night go, Nah don’t let it go

    Don’t wanna hear you speak
    I wanna make you scream
Come get it like a freak
    t-t-t-t –take my hand
Be at it till we’re weak
All night just like a dream
Come get it like a freak
    t-t-t-t-take my hand

Like a freak, like a freak, like a freak,

I might not know your name
    But I don’t even care
I got a room right down the street
I’d like to take you there
We’ll hold up for the night
Just tell me what you like
I can see you’re ready by that dirty look that’s in your eyes
So don’t hesitate, blow a single night left alone
Now don’t let the night go, Nah don’t let it go

    Don’t wanna hear you speak
    I wanna make you scream
Come get it like a freak
    t-t-t-t –take my hand
Be at it till we’re weak
All night just like a dream
Come get it like a freak
    t-t-t-t-take my hand

Like a freak, like a freak, like a freak,

    I prefer to be alone
By the look on your face, I see that you know
Just what I mean, you grab my hand and quickly we go
    Out through the back door
    You Lean into my ear
Say that you’re down for anything, NO FEAR

Chaser Eight: Eight on the Road

Born, Chisenga G. Katongo in Lusaka, Zambia, he was the first artist to release a Hip-Hop album in his birth country, Zambia in January 2005.

Currently working on a new album and constantly performing in Perth, he is looking to get onto major stages such as The Perth Arena and expanding further out, on a mission to represent a new phase in Australian Hip-Hop. His Afro-English/American accent has helped him stand out as an artist.

In 2010, he was one of four African artists hired by MTV Base to perform at a World Cup event in Johannesburg, South Africa.

He has performed in Atlanta, Hollywood, London, Zimbabwe, Malawi etc., released four albums and shared the stage with names including; Akon, Sean Paul, E-40 and many others. The biggest audience he has performed for is a roaring crowd of 48,000 people, at the Harare Sports Stadium.

From the artist, “The first song that I am promoting is an original song called ‘Translation’ that samples the man that was known as the African Jimi Hendrix. His name was Paul Ngozi. This song was created off the strength of my African roots and helps create what most people have described as a stand out track.” This song is definitely worth a listen!

    Meet the Slow Readers Club

The Slow Readers Club are a Manchester based indie /electro band whose music ranges from upbeat indie to angry, introspective downbeat ballads. Their critically acclaimed debut album, released in May 2012, received airplay on BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing, NME, Q Radio, NME TV, Sky Sports, Soccer am and ITV, drawing comparisons with Interpol, The Killers and Arcade Fire.

The band’s innovative music videos have received widespread media attention with 2012’s ‘Block Out The Sun’ singled out to feature on Coldplay’s website.

2014 has seen The Slow Readers Club continue to build a loyal fan base with Peter Hook describing them as his new favourite band in a recent NME New Music Special and Steve Lamacq featuring ‘Start Again’ on his BBC 6 Music show.

The track is electro indie-pop at its finest; its dark undertones building to an infectiously uplifting chorus before plunging once again into understated minor chord genius. Louder Than War has declared “2014 will see The Slow Readers Club on the edge of greatness”. This looks to be an accurate prediction.

First Listen: Jimmy & The Revolvers’ ‘Whistle For My Love’

Formed in early 2013, Jimmy & the Revolvers are Jay Rehm on Vocals & Acoustic Guitar, Kurt Riley on Vocals & Bass, Jimmy Moon on Electric Guitar and Ash Michael on Drums. Bursting onto Liverpool’s vibrant music scene with their debut AA side ‘Aimee’s Song/Frosty’ in June 2013, the band quickly became a favourite talking point for the city’s music bloggers and DJs, leading to them earning a large and ever growing following of fans, drawn to the effortless cool of their harmonies and infectious melodies.

More glowing reviews followed the release of their four track EP ‘Sunday Morning’ on New Year’s Eve 2013, which gained airplay across the UK and was chosen as one of BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson’s Fresh Faves on his Fresh on the Net website in February 2014. Support slots with Ian Skelly (former The Coral) and a brilliant performance at Liverpool Sound City 2014 have proved that the buzz around Jimmy & The Revolvers is entirely justified and set to get even bigger.

First Listen: Sonic Hearts Foundation Gives Us a Peek at the ‘Afterlife’

Sonic Hearts Foundation have something of a reputation for refusing to toe the line; a reputation reinforced by an impromptu guerrilla gig in 2012 which attracted two thousand people and resulted in the arrival of an incensed fleet of Glasgow’s police riot vans. Not even a hefty fine from the procurator fiscal could deter this band from following a musical quest that has marked them out as mavericks on Glasgow’s vibrant music scene.

2013 saw Sonic Hearts Foundation release their debut EP ‘Into Forever’. The four tracks, recorded in their home studio, showcase the band’s unique and unapologetic sound, containing elements of ambient noise, alt rock, eerie synth lines and even Krautrock. The lyrical content, centering around four central themes of Time, Nature, Death and War gives an insight into the scale of the band’s worldview, one that belies their youth.

‘Afterlife’ is set to win the band yet more attention as they assault the senses with their music, attitude and unrelenting drive.

Building on their 2013 critical acclaim that included several Top Albums of 2013 lists and features on Alternative Press and AbsolutePunk, Backslashes And Bad Ideas have inked a deal with Imminence Records. Vocalist Nick DePalo had this to say on the signing, “We are very excited about the switch to Imminence Records (from Harbor Records), and to be featured in a lineup of other bands we have come to love and respect. It gives us the opportunity as a band to grow and take the next step forward.” The band is set to release their first full length sometime in 2015 as the follow up to last year’s There Is No Place Like Home, which spawned the single “Defend Josh’s Life Choices” featuring Fred Mascherino (Taking Back Sunday, The Color Fred, Terrible Things).

    About Backslashes And Bad Ideas:
Backslashes and Bad Ideas is not just another generic pop punk or emo outfit. They are not typical, tired, or processed, and they proudly separate themselves from the constant cookie-cutter standard. Their circuit began with just four friends humbly making music. They started writing together inspired by a range of artists like scene veterans such as Taking Back Sunday and Brand New. The band’s unique sound and blend of pop punk, emo, and post-hardcore has drawn comparisons to The Dangerous Summer, The Wonder Years, The Story So Far, and Into It. Over It. Over two years in the making, they have grown together not only in number, but in sound and purpose. They strive to wrought passionate, driving, and heartfelt music that can transcend all listeners.

In June 2012, the band began recording theur debut EP Nothing Left To Give with producer Joe Della’quila (Anthony Green, Good Old War) at Exeter Studios in NJ. After a successful self-release on August 4th, 2012, Backslashes And Bad Ideas received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback and support, as well as favorable reviews from a variety of outlets. After several months of constant performing and promotion to support the release, the band signed to Harbor Records and went right back into the writing process to prepare for their next release. The sophomore effort There’s No Place Like Home was recorded over the summer of 2013 and features the singles “No Matter What Happens, Don’t Ask Who” as well as “Defend Josh’s Life Choices” featuring Fred Mascherino, formerly of Taking Back Sunday. The album was released on November 12, 2013, garnering high praise after exclusive features with Alternative Press and AbsolutePunk.net.

The band hit the road in January 2014, on tour to support the record with Lila Ignite and Night Owls. Since 2012 the band has traversed the east coast, playing shows near and far having shared the stage with national touring bands such as Major League, I Call Fives, Seaway, With The Punches, Half Hearted Hero, Born Without Bones, Young Statues, and Still Rings True. Backslashes And Bad Ideas thrive to deliver an electric, intimate, and tightly crafted performance no matter what the bill, venue, or crowd.

Following all the hugely positive reviews and widespread airplay for the first track from their upcoming EP ‘Amour Tragique’, we’re really excited to be able to bring The Sunday Reeds’ ‘Rock n Roll Fantasy’ to your attention.

Personally this is one of my favourite tracks on the EP and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, I’m still at the stage where I’m playing it several times a day!

Taken from their new EP ‘Amour Tragique’ on Heartgun Records

    Release Date:1st August 2014
    Format:Digital Download

“The highlight of the five track EP has to be ‘Rock n Roll Fantasy’. If it wasn’t for the female voice, it could easily pass as one of the Ramones classics.” Pulserift

“The Sunday Reeds obviously have an innate understanding of the spontaneous and combustible nature of rock n roll as they produce music which exudes an effortless uncontrived cool and a dangerous seductive swagger.” Von Pip Musical Express

The Sunday Reeds, named after Melbourne’s celebrated patron of the arts Sunday Reed, are Romana Ashton and Drew Jones. Though forming in 2009 as a duo, they soon started playing live as a three-piece and are regularly joined on stage by drummer Jeremy Russell.

Their first release ‘Drowning in History’ (2009) caught the attention of UK indie label Squirrel Records leading to extensive touring across Australia, the UK and Europe, during which bridges were burned, relationships ended and nervous breakdowns became commonplace. At one point the founding duo spent three days in Paris where the most romantic city in the world became an ironic backdrop for a particularly bitter relationship break up, one that culminated in their latest EP ‘Amour Tragique’ (Tragic Love).

A collection of five songs that detail doomed romances and love lost, ‘Amour Tragique’ combines the grittiness and angst of ‘90s grunge with the pop sensibilities of ‘60s pop, rock ‘n’ roll, a good measure of old fashioned blues and ‘80s new wave/post punk.

With contralto female vocals likened to Marianne Faithfull and Shirley Manson, and a rock ‘n’ roll swagger reminiscent of The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and Nirvana, The Sunday Reeds skillfully combine the most exciting elements of rock ‘n’ roll to create lyrically rich, infectiously melodic songs with a sound distinctly their own.

Videos for the singles taken from the EP ‘Jean-Luc’ (a song about the tumultuous relationship between Jean-Luc Godard and Anna Karina) and ‘Something About You’ (a dark pop song about love and loss) will be released later in 2014.

After a good beginning of 2013 and the publication of the second official videoclip from Tales from the Heart, “Dancing with Ghosts”, the band keeps on organizing live gigs, tours and starts working on the third album.

In July 2013 the recordings of the new album start. This third album “RECOVER” is a real shift in the band’s style: the get more and more towards an energetic and lively rock, where the melancholic Keys of the previous albums make room for the guitars.

“Recover” release on 17th December 2013 for “Klasse1 Edizioni” happens immediately to be a huge step for the Italian band: a European tour is going to be organized, and the band can’t wait to be on the road to play again, while the brand new video of “Night of illusions” gets published and the ideas for the fourth album start to sound clear.

So be ready: because Armonight and their Music will surely never, ever stop!

The Oversight Releases “Far From Gone”

Boston alternative rock/pop punk outfit The Oversight has released Far From Gone, today, July 22nd. The EP features five tracks that features instantly stuck in your head melodies, close to home lyrics, and intricate arrangements to provide listeners with the perfect summer release. Drummer Josh Parra had this to say on the band’s debut EP, “All five songs are about Ryan Watanabe’s (vocals/guitar) life and all the struggles he went through throughout his entire life including breakups, being broken hearted, and being sleepless. The album opener, “Collective,” and “Far From Gone” are the songs that bring all of us together to not only help him but one another as a big family.”

    About The Oversight:
Hailing from Boston, the up-and-coming alternative rock/pop punk outfit The Oversight is set to become the new breakthrough artist with a sound that falls somewhere in between the instinctive approach of artists such as The Gaslight Anthem and the clever arrangements and melodies of Pierce The Veil. The band is a brainchild of a group of students at Berklee College of Music, one of the most influential music schools in the world. It is a project born out of a common desire to grow as artists and as human beings, while also making the music they love and sharing their passion with whoever is willing to listen. With the band members being so far away from their home and families, they turned to each other for support when it was needed the most. This transformed the group from a simple band to a self-created family, which would in turn become the main theme of the band’s debut EP Far From Gone.
