Meet UK’s KIN & “Home Sweet Home”

UK Sensation KIN’s highly anticipated new single “Home Sweet Home” is now available for download worldwide through The Spectra Music Group.

KIN is made up of brothers Lynx and O’Slick, foster sister Emmie Jay and their childhood friend Melodee. Making Music since childhood, KIN was formed when Lynx decided to bring the families talents together after many years of jamming together for fun and realizing that together, with each other’s support they were at their strongest.

KIN had previous success as ‘South Finesse’ (as they were formally known as) when their track ‘Wanna Ride’ stormed in at track of the week on radio 1xtra and the video had a no1 top spot on the urban channel AKA for 2 weeks running. Together independently and without any labels South Finesse had many successes with various tracks making track of the week on 1xtra, a storm of online support and PR and music video ‘Take me away’ hitting no10 on MTV Base and front page of Vevo.

Many industry people where surprised that the band had such strong movement on their own and without label backing. It was this success that has recently lead to major label interest and the band signing a worldwide record deal with American based label Spectra Music Group.
It was before this signing that the band decided to re brand themselves based on their sibling relationship which is what sets them apart from the rest and are now KIN.

KIN wanted a name that involved everyone, not just themselves but of those who support them. As they came together from many different walks of life to form their own family unit, they wanted to invite the world to join them.

KIN aren’t keen on the concept of fans, as they feel that the word puts people on a pedestal. So they invite everyone to join them as one united movement #WeAreKin where anyone can be a part of and everyone is equal.

KIN is about making the most of life, supporting your Kin’s and having fun with it. So whoever you are, wherever you’re from, KIN invites you to join them on their journey and show the world that when you set your mind to it anything is possible with hard work and belief in yourself.

DJ’s and Radio Programmers worldwide are excited about the new release “Home Sweet Home” by KIN, as they make incredible music and have such an amazing back story bringing them together as a super talented group.

Kickstarter To Help Academy Award®-Winner Barrie M. Osborne

Barrie M. Osborne, the Academy Award®-winning producer whose credits include some of the biggest blockbusters of all-time, among them The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Matrix, has turned to Kickstarter to help fund Talk Is Cheap, an important environmental-themed family drama for writer, director, and producer Jim Jarrett.

The filmmakers, including Osborne, Jarrett and producer Jon Labrie, announced their independent film project today and formally launched their Kickstarter campaign, asking only $1.00 per person to help finance the film’s production costs. Those who contribute will be credited on screen and on the film’s website as an Associate Producer.

Talk is Cheap is an unforgettable and powerful story about a father and daughter and how one teenager’s viral vow of silence ignites a revolution that gives true voice to a generation demanding change.

“It’s a rare and great privilege when you come across a project that you really like that has something very meaningful to say, while also being very entertaining. Talk is Cheap is one of those projects,” said Osborne, who added “each generation comes out with a film that is groundbreaking, iconic, and says something very specific about what is going on with that generation. This film really illustrates the power of one voice to make a difference in the world. Through social media, with the right message at the right time, you actually can change the world one person at a time. That is the heart that drives our movie and it is the heart and soul of our Kickstarter campaign.”

If successfully funded, the film’s on-screen credit crawl will include the individual names of at least 1.5 million Kickstarter contributors.

In addition to Osborne, backers for the project will be joining an accomplished group of Hollywood veterans including the writer, director, producer Jim Jarrett, who is one of the most respected acting teachers in the world specializing in The Meisner Technique. Additionally, he is joined by writer and producer Jon Labrie, who served as the Chief Technology Officer for Peter Jackson’s Weta Digital. Jarrett has tapped Eamon Harrington & John Watkin to serve as directors of photography on the film. They have produced over 150 projects for television, and have collectively won 7 Emmy Awards.

Said Jarrett, “Talk Is Cheap is a family drama that focuses on the dire issue of global warming thru the eyes of a father and his teenage daughter, who disagree on how to make a difference on climate change. No matter what you believe about the science of the debate, our younger generation views the planet as sick and in need of help. They feel profoundly lost about what they can do to make a meaningful difference. This film really is about the power of one.”

Talk is Cheap begins with Mina Scott, a documentary filmmaker, following popular talk radio host Damon Michaels for 48 hours. Hoping to catch a glimpse of what it’s like to be one of the most powerful people in media today, she instead captures the story of a lifetime filtered through a fractured relationship between an opinionated father (Damon) and his alienated and equally opinionated daughter (Nikki). Nikki is fed up with her politically provocative dad, who talks about current issues but never makes a difference. While the documentary crew is rolling, she declares she can accomplish more by NOT talking, than her father ever could as a popular radio host.

At school the following day, instead of announcing her candidacy for student body President, Nikki announces that she won’t speak until the U.S. makes dramatic changes to its policy on climate change – and she encourages other young people to follow her example.

Over the next few days, smart phone videos of Nikki’s emotional and compelling speech go viral. What starts innocently as a simple act of defiance grows into a world-wide phenomenon – fueled by young people, one by one, finding their voice through silence and the extraordinary power of community that is shared and connected by social media.

With both sides of the climate change issue raging in debate and growing more extreme and dangerous by the day, a father and daughter must find a way to come together to lead the millions of people who demand a difference and agree that action must be taken because Talk is Cheap.

Madame So is a Paris-born /London-based singer-songwriter. She makes lyric-led guitar pop that has been likened to Hole, Blondie, Patti Smith and Tracy Chapman. You’ll either love the catchy immediacy of her melodies or dismiss it as being too “lo-fi”… Either way, in her own words: “If I pushed your buttons, I’ve accomplished my mission.”

    Artist Spotlight: Fola

For those who haven’t heard of you, how would you describe your sound?
My sound is R&B fused with various genres of music. My vocal style is r&b. My tone is my sound.

Your new single “Comfortable”, what’s it about?
Comfortable is about dating someone and encouraging them to get comfortable. So many people are afraid to be themselves around someone they are attracted to. Comfortable is all about breaking that tough ice.

The visuals for “Comfortable” are very 90’s – esque, why is that?
I wanted a video that was reminiscent of the old school 90s video in an abandoned warehouse singing to the camera with dancers. All about the performance and moves.

What do you miss the most about the 90’s and why?
I miss the music and the tv shows for kids, it just brought us all together. Singers could really sing. Writers could really write, performers could really perform. Videos were much better. I just miss the greatness. Now it seems like most things are like microwave food. Fast and cheap.

What has been the best moment in your career so far?
The best moment in my career so far would have to be realizing that i have been given this gift to really change lives.

What role has social media played in your career?
Social media has played everything. Wouldn’t be able to have come this far without it. Thank god for social media. It’s hard out here being an unknown artist nobody wants to actually know you even if they did. Tough industry!

What’s the biggest influence on your songwriting?
Biggest influence in my songwriting would have to be the life we all live.

Can you expand on why you think R&B is almost a taboo in the UK?
R&B is almost a taboo right now in the uk because not a lot of people are checking for the genre like the late 90s early 00s in the uk. When has it recently charted? A lot of artist who would love to make that type of music are resisting because, everyone needs to eat. I do think if Sam Smith sang it, it would sell. I guess it would have the shock factor. We are always amazed when a white person has such a soulful voice, a black person with the same type of voice is expected. God bless the genre and I hope things turn around for the good. It is nice to know some artist are still covering the genre very well.

The UK recently agreed age restrictions for music videos, what is your take on this?
Really? I had no idea loool. That’s good. But is that really going to work? Like really? Times have changed.

Who are you backing to win the Best R&B/Soul category at the MOBO Awards?
Sam Smith!!! his album is absolute greatness. Love every song.

Stuck on a desert island, what one album would you want with you?
Oooo that question is too hard. It would have to be Brandy -full moon album. Best tone ever never bored of her sound. But I would need an MJ album to get my solo turn up to loool.

What are you listening to right now?
Currently listening to a lot of Afrobeat. So much amazing music is coming from my home land. Plus you can’t help but dance when it comes on. Infectious music.

What can we expect from you in 2015?
2015 ooo more music more visuals more gigs. Project should be released also. Can’t wait!!!

What is your ultimate goal as an artist?
I just want my music to touch people’s emotions in all types of way! I want to be a soundtrack to people’s lives.

Writing and recording new original material was the next agenda for the talented singer. Fola began working with talented producers, songwriters and vocal arrangers like: Maleek Berry, DDark, J Warner, DavidB, SOS, Alex E and Richard Isongs, to create great music that would represent him well and showcase his deep, smooth, sultry vocals that set him apart from other singers on the scene today. Fola’s music has been described as mainstream r&b/pop music that is universal and highly relatable in content.

Star was Fola’s first ever official single release in 2011 with UK MC/Producer DDark. The song was a pop/grime/electro club banger that did very well for both acts, opening more doors of opportunities as well as building their ever growing fan base.

Due to the great response from Star, from Dj’s across the country and fans, Fola decided to release his first solo project – GO. A mixtape consisting of some songs that he had been working on for the past 2 years prior to the release of Star. The mix-tape was a message driven body of work that dealt with love, independence and good times.

In 2013 Fola decided to change his sound and go for a more acoustic driven project – After Green, released in the summer of 2013. The Mixtape was inspired by the Kinects – Fola’s fans. A lot of people took interest in Fola’s live acoustic act and wanted to hear more of that sound recorded. After Green saw the collaboration with Femi Vessel, guitarist and keyboardist from London. Fola also teamed up with Mr Damention for Swag Back, the first song from the mixtape. Swag was also produced by Femi Vessell. The mixtape also consisted of covers of Riahnna’s Diamonds and Chris Browns’ Don’t Judge Me. Beyonce’s I Miss You was also recorded following the success of his performance of the song on reload session, which generated huge interest on YouTube. Other producers that contributed to the project Akin The Producer (Diamonds & Don’t Judge Me) & Maleek Berry (Together, Open The Gates & Round & Round).

Fola is now in a song writing duo called Pensouls with singer/songwriter David B. Both have been writing for other artists and Fola’s new up and coming EP – Promise Land set to be released in 2014. Fola has also formed a close collaboration with producer Villi ‘V Beats’ Mambu. The Open The Gates singer just recently signed to GMG Music Management, and is set to do great things in the future. Promise Land EP is a more mature, smooth sensual side and explores r&b/pop/soul styled music.

Dee Gunnz, a young man born with Albinism, grew up in the projects of Alexandria, VA, was born and raised in VA, and had to grow up fast to deal with being different. Through all of this he always found an outlet in music to feel better. He began writing at age 8 but did not begin rapping until 2010. His music and lyrics are mainly about what he has been through, life, or just pictures he likes to paint with his words. Dee Gunnz dropped his first mixtape, entitled VIP (which is an acronym for Very Important Person, Verses In Perspective, and Vacation In Paris, a dream of his mothers that he hopes to give to her some day) on August 19th, 2011. Naylor’s Notes: Keith Walker – The Chase

You walk in, your favorite band is playing, and immediately you feel it.  A presence in the room that gives you chills.  You look over, and there she is. Everything you’ve ever wanted , but thought you’d never find.  You lock eyes, and immediately your heart starts to race.  You feel like your life just began at the first glance, into her eyes.  Just listen to the lyrics, “I would have told you that I loved you from the first night.” “Cause, there ain’t nothing like the feeling of a first time.”  “You’re seeing stars, and your heart starts to race.” Cause there ain’t nothing like, “The Chase.” Check out what Keith Walker had to say during our interview.

When did you start your band?
I started playing music when I was 6.  I came home from school one day, and my dad had a guitar for me, and taught me how to play.  It’s kind of funny, but it became a chore for me just like doing the dishes.  I had to do my homework, and practice all my scales before I could play with my friends.

I formed my band when I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University, and we started playing Tootsies 3 nights a week in downtown Nashville.  I had a blast playing there, and learned to work a crowd, but decided to change my focus from playing cover gigs, to playing shows that I could focus my own music on.  Creating a sound that I could call my own.

    Which instruments do you play?
I mainly play guitar, but love to play Trumpet. I can somewhat get by on the Piano.

Describe your music interests and abilities.
I’m really interested in all genres of music, but country is where my heart and soul live.  I’m always listening to different kinds of music, new, and old, – to see if there is something that inspires me.

My abilities always stem from my focus, and that is to be as true to myself in everything I write, and play.  I’m a believer that if you don’t play or write what you know, the fans will feel it is fake, and it will never come across to them as genuine.

    What famous musicians inspire you?
I’m inspired from a wide array of famous artists, bands, and writers. From AC/DC, and ZZ Top. To Dwight Yoakam, Garth Brooks, George Strait, and Waylon Jennings, I pull inspiration from pieces of each.  Right now I’ve been hooked on Travis Meadows (a Nashville songwriter), Dierks Bentley, Jason Isbell, Jason Mraz, and Eric Church.

What are some of your best musical memories?

    Two short stories:

    1. When I was first trying to learn how to sing and play guitar at the same time as a kid.  I learned the Garth Brooks song “Papa Loved Momma”.  A month ago I was told that a song of mine was pitched to Garth Brooks recently, and he responded in a personal email saying he loved it…I nearly jumped out of my skin.  It’s crazy how things come out in full circle.
    1. When I was 9 years old, I was asked to play Taps on Trumpet for a Memorial Day Celebration.  It was my first public performance playing solo.  I was told to start playing when the guest speaker finished his speech and the flag was being lowered.  I got so nervous that I started playing Taps while they raised the flag and the speaker was still talking.  Once I started I couldn’t stop so I just kept on going like it was meant to be that way.  Looking back I can’t help but laugh, but back then I was devastated and wanted to run home.  I’m sure glad YouTube wasn’t a thing yet because it would have been all over it.

What public events do you have coming up?
I have a Writer’s showcase that I’m playing on October 18th in Brentwood, TN (just south of Nashville) with Anna Johnson (she appears on a couple of my songs), Wesley Blaylock, and Matt Giraud (American Idol).  It’s a party/show open to the public and should be a great time!

I just released a music video today, October 14th for the song “The Chase” which will be on my next record.

My merch store will be opening up through my website at the end of October.  There you’ll be able to get hard copies of CDs, Shirts, and more.

What would you say to beginners in the industry, who are nervous?
Start with the end in sight.  In other words, focus on the end goal whatever that may be, and never let go of it.  Live it, breathe it, and always stay true to that goal.  If you’re not sure how you’ll get there, just take the first step, and the next step will reveal itself.

How do you balance your music to fit with your family and friends?
This is definitely one of the hardest parts of this whole thing.  Luckily my wife is my biggest fan and motivator so she completely understands when I have to focus on music.  Sometimes we go weeks without spending time together.  I now put appointments in my calendar to spend time with my wife and friends because otherwise, it won’t happen.

Should we be expecting anything new to be released?

Yes, I’m working on my next record for release in 2015.  I’ve buckled down and have been writing constantly to make sure it always beats the last thing I’ve done.

Where can we follow your career at?
The best place to follow me is on my website http://www.keithwalker.net/

I personally man my own YouTube (youtube.com/keithwalkervideos), Facebook (facebook.com/KWalkerMusic), Twitter (twitter.com/kwalkercountry), and Instagram (instagram.com/keithwalkermusic) pages, and always respond to people who reach out to me.

The Chris Duarte Group & ‘Lucky 13’

Chris Duarte Group emerged on the scene out of Austin, Texas, in the early 90’s and gained notoriety after wowing a packed room of industry insiders at the South X Southwest convention. In the wake of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s passing, Duarte quickly gained a national reputation as a young man imbued with a playing style comparable at times to the late guitarist.

After fielding interest from a number of labels, Duarte signed to Silvertone Records and his debut album “Texas Sugar/ Strat Magik” reportedly sold in excess of 100,000 units in the United States, no small feet for a blues/rock guitarist. This coupled with Duarte’s strong commitment to touring, was the impetus for Chris’ winning the “Best New Talent” in Guitar Player’s 1995 Reader’s Poll. He also finished fourth in the magazine’s “Best Blues Guitarist” category that year behind legends Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, and B.B. King.

Throughout the last decade, Duarte honed his chops as a guitarist, songwriter, and singer as he recorded three more critically acclaimed records, “Tailspin Headwhack” in 1997, “Love Is Greater Than Me” in 2000 and “Romp” 2003, the latter two of which were on the Zoe/Rounder label.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Duarte has constantly worked on his growth as a musician and the years of recording culminated purposefully in this past decade’s “Blue Velocity”, “Vantage Point”, “396” with Bluestone Company, “Blues In The Afterburner”, “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, All Things Blue”, “Infinite Energy”, “My Soul Alone”, and 2013’s “Chris Duarte Group Live”. All records aptly showcase many sides of this brilliant artist in the context of high energy blues rock with moments that bring to mind legendary artists as diverse as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robin Trower, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Johnson.

Chris’ recordings have always been rooted firmly in the blues with a rock and roll edge which further established Duarte as one of the rare musical talents of his generation. “Lucky 13” continues in the tradition of contemporary blues rock with bursts of fusion, pop, and heavy psychedelia throughout. This CD contains a heavy dose of Duarte’s legendary blues guitar chops over a diverse set of grooves and lyrical themes.

    Meet Britain’s Mozart, Shane Thomas

‘Mrs Matisee’ showcases Shane’s incredible talent and beautifully demonstrates the amazing capabilities of this young composer. The tack in undeniably stunning and transpires audiences into the fascinating world of Shane Thomas.

Shane was inspired to write the track earlier this year when he saw a painting by Henri Matisse. He was so taken with the beauty of the painting that he decided to compose a piece of music about it. Shortly after writing the track Shane discovered that Debussy had been inspired by the very same painting and produced a well known piece of music called, Arabesque.

Shane began playing the piano at the tender age of seven and has since taken on the challenge of mastering the art of the cello and percussion. Shane dreams up all of his music. He has never sat at a piano to compose anything. He does it all in his head, then later sits to play the piece. He can immediately play any melody or song he hears.

Aged ten, Shane was the youngest person in history to be signed to a music publisher, E.M.I. music.

Peter Andre, Jamie Cullum, Bradley Walsh and Jason Mansford are all fans of the child star. The Royal Academy of Music and Yehudi Menuhin school both describe Shane as ,‘’A complete one off’’.

Some of Shane’s highlights to date include; appearing on, Odd one In (as Britain’s Mozart), The One Show, London Tonight and at The Young composers award in 2011. Shane has performed at Castle Howard to over 10,000 people as well as to the Duchess of Kent, at the Royal Academy of Music. Both the Daily Mail and Sunday Express Magazine have run full page articles on Shane and his unique talent.

    About Shane Thomas:
Shane Thomas was born in south London on 1st September 1999. When he was six months old he was able to select and fit together lego pieces of the same colour, and by the age of three he could operate all the technology in the house. He had memorised the phone book and would call people up if the phone was left within his reach. Shane could also memorise maps covering a distance of two or three hundred miles or more. At five, he could read and spell like the average adult.

It was when Shane Thomas was three years of age that he insisted he could play the piano. He had never touched a piano in his life, so nobody took him seriously and he resorted to playing an imaginary piano on the carpet. One day he wrote a time signature -for no apparent reason- and showed everyone in the family. When Shane was six years old, he prophesised to his father that he was going to be world famous at the age of 12. He didn’t explain why or how.

One day when Shane was shopping with his Nan, he asked her to buy him a piano and she kindly agreed, despite the expense. When it arrived, Shane performed some sort of miracle. He immediately started playing ‘Little Donkey’. Then he played ‘Away in a Manger’, ‘Silent Night’ and other recognisable tunes, using both hands. Within weeks he had composed his first piece of music which he entitled ‘The Sycamores’, and four months later he was chosen as one of just seven children in the entire country to be nominated for the Talented Youngster of the Year award. He performed to celebrities at the Grand Palace Hotel in Manchester and chose to play ‘Memory’, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s theme from the musical Cats.

Unfortunately Shane’s mother strongly disagreed with the idea of her son becoming famous, and believed his father was paying too much attention to Shane’s talents. She told his father that the music had to stop or she would file for divorce. The music continued.

In November 2007, the family separated. Shane lost his school, his friends, his brother and sister, his home and his mother all in one day, and it was very painful for him. Shane’s father wondered whether his boy would ever be the same again. However, Shane came through this period in his life. Through his piano, he consoled himself and expressed his sadness. It was suggested that buying Shane a pet might help, so his father bought him a budgie which he called Joshua. Shane developed a very close bond with Joshua, and he used to tell him all his troubles.

At the start of 2008, Shane began to produce compositions in the most extraordinary manner. He could just dream them up one after the other, and was able to play them immediately, without practice. Shane calls the process “special moments”. Some might say it’s divine inspiration. Shane has always been a very spiritual boy. He reads the bible every night without fail, and can recite the psalms.

Certain people believe that he has a very special gift and he was born to share this gift with the world. Shane Thomas didn’t have a piano lesson for the first two years of playing, yet was able to emulate great classical composers. He has also mastered a vast range of contemporary styles. Just like Mozart, he is also a math genius.
