Daily Dose: Catherine Ajike – Want It

    S1SZ2sHeqo7SS89dr07praFJpA71JTblCA_o

Even though she has written a few songs, Catherine said she would agree that her current single is a dance hit and she is hoping to get a nice radio and tv support for it.

We are expecting to see a lot more work from Catherine Ajike who goes on to mention how very much she has still got her hands tied in her acting career but for now, she is impressed on the progress she has made with her record label Kate Angel Music. Therefore, her excitement is on her current single Want it and she thinks dance music fans will like it.

NYC Teenager Ani Akpan CEO’s Million Dollar Venture

“VUE NOIRE” first Bronx-based motion picture company officially accepts the Creative Talent and Corporate Underwriting Grant of $2.5 Million Dollars on Monday, August 25th, 2014 at 10:00 AM Eastern Standard Time–Bronx, New York.

Eighteen year old Filmmaker Ani Akpan, born in Nigeria, Africa, arrived to New York City at age 4 along with his parents, brother & sister. The Akpan family, refer to the Bronx as “home”. Both Mr. & Mrs. Akpan are public school teachers in the Highbridge Community where they also raised Ani and his siblings while simultaneously managing an array of successful entrepreneurial endeavors.

Ani inherited a passion for video production from his Father, Imeh, who also stressed the importance of academic excellence, leadership skills, and social responsibilities. This led Ani toward developing himself as a freelance contractor in multimedia at age of 16. Additionally, it positioned Ani for the acceptance to the prestigious Browning High School where he consistently excelled in all of its diverse aspects.

Ani experienced one-on-one grooming by Director Spike Lee, as a result of winning a string of web-based short film projects. In January 2014, his indie films ignited a significant viral buzz through his self-published website. It garnered an international audience and ultimately the attention of studios execs from Warner Bros. Pictures who offered their support via access to Creative Talent Foundation–a charitable organization & endowment operating the largest film, TV, game, & theater operation purposed to scout, market, & provide corporate support to the world’s most prolific filmmakers & cinematographers at the onset of their careers.

The teenager made his most ambitious move to-date when he agreed to take up the program’s grueling and strenuous submission process in the pursuit of cooperative, distribution, and marketing support of more than Two Million Dollars; all while maintaining his full-time scholastic, volunteering, family, & church responsibilities.

It would be more than five months before Ani would see the end of the Foundation’s review process, and on that final day he sat with his parents and production partners, in great anticipation, as he open the certified mail that would convey the results of their efforts. On July 28th, Ani Akpan soared to yet another height as a co-recipient of the Creative Talent Grant as well as a major distribution cooperative venture agreement thereby supplying the proverbial “greenlight” for Akpan’s first feature film as well as the realization & first tangible step toward opening the Bronx’ first motion picture lot exactly upon the location where he dreamed of making music videos and epic films as a young boy.

On Monday, August 25th, 2014, at 10:00 AM Eastern Standard Time, Ani Akpan, parents Imeh & Enobong Apkan, and his production partners officially commemorate day by the formal acceptance ceremony of the $2.5M Cooperative Underwriters Agreement & Creative Talent International Grant as well as the ceremonial groundbreaking, debut, and launch of the Bronx’ first studio lot; Vue Noire LLC. Akpan will also present the first exclusive and media junket debut of the company’s first feature film project. The occasion will be marked by additional presentations by Time Warner Executive Lucinda Farrow, and New York City Metropolitan Press Club.

Playing “Cops and Robbers” in Ferguson, Mo

Two Years before Ferguson, Mo hit the headlines, Bay Area Law Enforcement Officer and Artist, Jinho “The Piper” Ferreira of Flipsyde wrote “Cops and Robbers,” a 17-character one man show that seems to dramatically mirror the spin of Ferguson.

If the underlying racial tensions of Ferguson, Mo had been addressed sooner would Michael Brown be alive today? The absolute answer may never be known, but one law enforcement officer, rapper, and playwright, “Jinho The Piper” Ferreira,” has been on a crusade for dialogue among law enforcement, media and community since writing “Cops and Robbers” a 17-character one-man show that examines an “officer involved shooting” and its impact.

The play written in 2012 in four days as a way for Ferreira, an artist who has toured internationally with groups such as the Black Eyed Peas, Snoop Lion and others, to vent creatively as he absorbed the realities of law enforcement and community impacted by violence. “Cops and Robbers” is an appeal for people to talk to each other about the violent realities in America and their personal responsibility for change.

The sad and tragic death of Michael Brown and the unrest that ensued could be considered “life imitating art” when one reads the script.

    Excerpts from “Cops and Robbers:”
The Lieutenant: “I don’t give a damn if all he did was steal a bag of chips, I want it, I wanna spin it, and I wanna get it to that #$@% journalist immediately she’s killing us out there”!

The Minister (Community Leader): “They say the young brother is a street hustler. Well I know of another street hustler, his name is Jay Z. So they don’t know what this young brother could become….the greatest purveyor of violence as we know it is the government of the United States of America.”

Rob Bob (Conservative Talk Show Host): “God help us, I can hear ‘em now. They’re probably down there right now shouting ‘Oh the brotha man. The brotha man had his hands up, and the police man was shootin’ him in the back’. Gimmie a break!”

The parallels of “Cops and Robbers” to the unfolding news in Ferguson are almost prophetic. Local San Francisco CBS Journalist Chistin Ayers spoke with Ferreira about the play and its significance in the wake of Michael Brown’s shooting and other police involved shootings.

“It’s uncanny seeing Piper’s work play out almost beat by beat in the streets of Ferguson,” said Ami Zins, co-director with her husband Lew Levinson of “ Cops and Robbers.” “It is surreal. Anyone not knowing it was written in 2012 could think, it’s was written about Ferguson.”

From art studios like photographer Jim Dennis’ Emeryville loft, to the Malonga Center for the Arts, to jails to youth conferences and now the Marsh in Berkeley, Piper performs the words of his play he hopes will bring light to the heat of racial tensions as people are moved to take personal responsibility.

“This play has many dimensions. It forces the audience members to look deeply into themselves and question parts of their beliefs they have long ago accepted as truths. I dedicate this work to those in search of truth. I dedicate it to Alaysha Carradine, Chauncey Bailey and Oscar Grant; All who have had their lives stolen, whether their lives were taken by a man in a uniform or not. I dedicate it to all the little girls being forced to sell their bodies right now. I dedicate it to all of us affected by violence. I dedicate it to change, “said Jinho “The Piper” Ferreira.

Ferreira’s “Cops and Robbers” one man show expanded to a book co-written with his wife educator Dr. Dawn Williams Ferreira, “Cops and Robbers: Past, Present and Future,” that includes curriculum to use the book as a tool to teach non-violence. It was released in May along with a CD of the Play and a single “Believe” from the “Cops and Robbers E.P.

Returning from Rio de Janeiro, where he had a cultural exchange meeting with Mayor Eduardo Paes’ ExioRio staff, Ferreira hopes his message of nonviolence via authentic public discourse will catch on wherever there is violence.

UK Record Label Secures New Release and Catalogue Gems

Cherry Red has agreed worldwide deals with Sarah Cracknell, Todd Rundgren, Claudia Brücken, and Bettye LaVette for their forthcoming new studio albums. The company has also entered into new catalogue deals with Bucks Music Group/Onward Music, including legendary artists such as Joan Armatrading and Procol Harum, and Manticore Records, as well as Anthony Phillips (Genesis) and instrumental band Sky, which collectively cover over 100 releases in coming year.

Best known for her vocals in electronic indie dance act Saint Etienne, Sarah Cracknell will release her first solo work since EP Kelly’s Locker in 2000 in early 2015. Supported by to-be-announced live dates, the album will also be available in special deluxe editions.

Known for his work in outfits such as progressive rock group Utopia, and producer credits including Meatloaf’s Bat Out Of Hell, US multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Todd Rundgren will release his latest solo album in 2015. Cementing an ongoing relationship with Cherry Red, including the release of State last year, the album (title to be announced) will see Rundgren out on the road for a series of live dates.

Former frontwoman of synthpop groups Propaganda and Act, Claudia Brücken’s third solo album Where Else will be released on October 6th. A collaboration with co-writer and producer John Williams (Proclaimers, Blancmange, Petula Clark), the album was written and recorded at his studio in North Kensington. Brücken will perform an intimate show at St. Pancras Old Church, London on September 24th.

A recording artist since the age of 16, and nominated in the ‘Contemporary Blues Female Artist’ category of the Blues Foundation’s Music Awards for the last two years, Bettye LaVette will also release her new studio album early next year. Produced by Grammy award winner Joe Henry, who also worked on 2005’s I’ve Got My Own Hell To Raise, the still-to-be-titled album will be accompanied by a live tour.

Cherry Red has also entered into a Europe-wide agreement with Bucks Music Group/Onward Music covering a number of albums from artists such as Procol Harum, Joan Armatrading, and The Move. The deal includes both the most significant works of the artists’ respective careers and previously unreleased material, with deluxe editions planned as part of the reissuing.

In addition, Cherry Red has signed a 25 album agreement with Manticore Records, originally launched by Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s production company, covering works by artists such as P.F.M, Stray Dog, Banco, and Pete Sinfield. Agreed for the world excluding Japan, the deal encompasses the artists’ entire back catalogue with Manticore, with the intention to offer expanded editions.

The company has also signed worldwide catalogue deals with ex-Genesis guitarist Anthony Phillips, covering 20 solo albums, and English/Australian instrumental group Sky for their entire back catalogue, including some previously unreleased material.

Cherry Red’s MD Adam Velasco commented: “Once again we’re delighted to be partnering with such wide-ranging talents, whether it’s for the release of new or catalogue material. It’s also great to be working with the likes of Manticore and Bucks Music/Onward Music to bring consumers renewed editions of these classic works and the ability to hear formerly unreleased gems.”

Sarah Cracknell said of working with Cherry Red: “As a kid I was always buying records on Cherry Red – whether it was Felt, The Pillows And Prayers compilation, the first Everything But The Girl single or strange 45’s by odd bands like Fantastic Something – the label was always present and part of my record collection. As I embark on my second solo record it feels great to be affiliated – hey, signed to – the label that helped set me off on my musical journey.”

On his own deal Anthony Phillips added: “’I’m delighted to be working with Mark Powell at Esoteric Recordings and being reunited with the esteemed Cherry Red Records after my one-off compilation with them in the mid 80s. Their enthusiasm has been both warm and infectious, encouraging me to take the plunge with a new song-based album soon, and I consider myself fortunate to have found such a happy home for my sizeable catalogue!”

New Song from Orlando Rapper JG

The debut single from unsigned Orlando rapper JG ‘Crazy With The Flow’ is taking the art of hip hop back to its roots. This song is every bit as good as it says and the young artist’s flow is indeed as “crazy” as it gets. For his first single JG comes with a veteran swagger and represents for his hometown as it should be done. His skills as an emcee are definitely not to be questions, but his stage performance is still one skill that we must await to see.

The single ‘Crazy With The Flow’ is “one of many to come” says the young rapper. Surely the fans are anxious to hear more of this crazy flow. His music is somewhat like a mixture of MGK, Kid Ink and Lupe Fiasco. Not a bad combination to have as a new artist looking to make a name for himself. The new single ‘Crazy With The Flow’ by JG can be downloaded now on iTunes at http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/crazy-with-the-flow-single/id910694427.

Daily Dose: Big Greg – How I Do It

    919778_404711126303750_592919090_o

“I’m Cooling.” If you asked Big Greg how he was doing he’d be the first to tell you he’s cooling, which is a little ironic because this Carolina native is heating up. But the “I’m cooling” mantra perfectly describes his laid back sound. Greg started playing the drums at a young age in church and eventually Hip Hop became his passion.

Participating in college freestyle sessions, Greg would come up with the best punch lines which created his nickname, The Punch Line Kid (P.L.K.). Greg incorporates memorable lyrics with a laid back flow and dope hooks.

Greg, a family man, is a proud father of his son who inspires him to strive. His dedication to his craft comes from his life lessons and his ability to create music in a way that makes you feel good and that you can groove to. Greg uses his music to help him through life situations and the ability to press on. With his talent, drive for success and passion for music, Greg is on the rise as the next Hip Hop legend.

Following the success of Villiers’ last single ‘The Dancer’ released in June 2014, which saw the band featured on Janice Long’s BBC Radio 2 show and earned them international airplay and coverage, the trio are back with a double AA side ‘You’re Not Alone’ and ‘Nowhere Left to Run’.

Hailing from Lancashire, Villiers are an Alternative/ New Wave outfit who cite the iconic sounds of New Order and Echo and the Bunnymen as major musical influences. Lyrical inspiration comes from dystopian writers such as J.G Ballard and George Orwell. Since their formation in 2011 the band have released three studio EPs (Light the Fuse, Into the Haze and VLRS) earning them praise and recognition from radio DJs, bloggers and music magazines across the world.

Last summer saw Villiers break onto the UK festival scene with a slot at BeatHerder alongside Clean Bandit, TOY, Temples, Chic ft Nile Rodgers and Groove Armada. Überschall Returns to the Brooklyn Bowl

If you have been around the music scene in Las Vegas for any length of time, it’s most likely you have heard about a band with a very unusual name and an even more unusual performance. Überschall is a band that features Members of Blue Man Group and consists of three drummers, two guitarists and one bassist. Überschall creates a very rhythmic, danceable static that is played as a set, not as separate songs.

In 2000, guitarist Elvis Lederer and fellow Blue Man Group members wanted a break from the nightly routine and a chance to create music that is spontaneous, inventive and as equally transforming for the audience as for the performers themselves. Highly conceptual and purely improvisational, you’ll never see the same show twice. Überschall connects electronica with a human element, to elevate everyone’s experience to the next level of intensity.

Current Überschall band members include drummers Jeff Tortora, Todd Waetzig and Jordan Cohen, with Charles Henry and Elvis Lederer on guitars and Wickett Pickett playing the bass. Überschall has been joined by many world renowned performers such as Terry Bozzio (Zappa, Jeff Beck), Tim Herb Alexander (Primus) and Phil Leavitt (Dada, 7Horse). Longtime Überschall band member, Jordan Cohen, was in the industrial-electronica rock band, Powerman 5000, prior to obtaining his Blue Man Group status several years ago.

On Sunday, August 24th the Brooklyn Bowl will once again showcase Überschall, the band that some say has altered the Las Vegas musical landscape, will also feature special guest performances by popular Las Vegas Strip entertainers including the Kristef Brothers, Mariano Skinny Jaja, Kader Chelef, as well as Jay R Beatbox, DJ Aurajin and more.

This concept of giving audiences more than just your typical concert experience is nothing new to Lederer, who created Open Forum, a tremendously successful monthly residency for over two years during the heyday of MGM’s Studio 54. Lederer states “I want the audience to experience a part club, part show, with a backstage pass to a world they might only see on TV.”

Don’t miss your chance to see this “enhanced” Überschall show, featuring Members of Blue Man Group, at the Brooklyn Bowl, this Sunday, August 24th. Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 9pm, No Cover. This event is 21 and over. Specials include 2 for 1 PBR and Well Whiskey. A limited amount of box seats and bowling lanes are available to reserve during the concert. For availability and pricing, please send an email to: vegasevents@brooklynbowl.com.

“Harlem Creates Music Festival” Will Be The Ultimate Celebration

The line-up for the “Harlem Creates Music Festival” (HCMF) has been announced by organizer Create X, Inc. HCMF aims to bring together Harlem’s population to celebrate, enjoy, and explore the music it creates. The event begins Saturday, September 6th at Harlem’s World Famous Apollo Theater and concludes with a free concert on Sunday, September 7th at Riverbank State Park.

Saturday’s show begins at 8pm (advance ticket purchase required). Sunday’s concert is from 5pm-7pm.

All the festival’s performers are rooted in Harlem, including Jacob Shaw, The Earthman Experience, Sugar Tone Brass Band, the Rakiem Walker Project, Quantum Split, The Westerlies, and the Harlem Creates Ensemble.

Rakiem Walker, owner and director of the Rakiem Walker Project, is an HCMF Board Member. The long-time Harlem resident said, “I was drawn to this project from the beginning, not only because of the opportunity for artists, but also because the festival is giving back by providing leadership, vision, and financial support for aspiring musicians in our community. I like what these guys are doing and I’m happy to lend my 22 years of musical experience in Harlem to the project.”

Create X, Inc. was started when musician Jacob Kallman and Harlem-based composer Charles Martin recognized that in Harlem, like-minded artists often lack the opportunity to interact with or perform alongside one another within the Manhattan neighborhood’s borders, thus contributing to the absence of a shared Harlem music consciousness. The two artists set out to create an event that would provide an opportunity for local performances and “amplify the creative musical voice of Harlem.”

Kallman says, “Inspiring Harlem’s musicians to be part of the festival turned out to be less of a challenge than we might have predicted. In the two months since we registered the event, the music community in Harlem has been overwhelmingly supportive–so much so that we have a waiting list of performers wanting to participate.”

“We are now in the process of engaging like-minded civic groups and community leaders,” adds Martin. “Their involvement will insure the sustainability of our efforts and assure that our message is delivered to the broadest possible audience.”

Key community leaders like Ruth Thomas are already coming on board. Thomas, the Cultural Manager of Riverbank State Park, where the event will end with a free concert on September 7th , said, “I am thrilled to collaborate with this grassroots project and see it spring to life right here in the heart of Harlem.”

For information on the Harlem Creates Music Festival, visit www.harlemcreates.org or contact Charlie Martin at info@harlemcreates.org or (813) 803-2463

You’ve just released your highly anticipated new single ‘BPM’ How are you feeling about it?
Excited that it is out there, and also feels a bit surreal. This is something I have always wanted and it is finally here.

What are your biggest musical influences? What are you listening to at the moment?
I love 90’s music- Simply Red- that reminds me of my parents. Elvis reminds me of my Nana. The first album I ever bought was Toni Braxton. At the moment people like- Jay Z, Kanye West, Ella Eyre, Beyonce-then it could even be another Country- being in Dubai and hearing the Call to Prayer inspired me- that eastern influence in music.

What do you think makes a good song and what do you set out to achieve with the music you release?
I think a good song is one that makes you feel something- any emotion- sadness or even the need to dance. As long as it makes you feel.

You recently starred in a TV show called ‘Nadia Goes To Hollywood’. What was it like to give the public such intimate access to your life?
I think it is an interesting, you get to share your experience- a window into this crazy industry. I find it interesting to watch and love being able to do that for people- I use to love MTV The Diary- which is not a million miles off what I am doing. There are moments on screen which makes you cringe and think ‘oh no, they got that on camera!’ but it shows me.

How was your experience of working on music in the USA? Did you learn anything there that was different to other places you have recorded?
Yeah definitely- no matter where you record it depends on the Producer- it became so routine in LA I could be barefooted, practically in my PJs- comfortable. When we were in Paramount there would be someone crazy next door- like Bruno Mars- amazing but mental to be in the same creative space as these big artists.

As well as being a singer, you’re also a model. What is your go-to look?
Liner- lots of eyeliner and big hair. Big hair is my safety blanket – bigger, longer the better

    What’s your favorite beauty tip?
Take your make up off before you go to bed and watch what you eat, everything you put in your body comes out on your skin.

As someone who’s always in front of the camera, do you have any great advice for being confident?
Pretend you are a character- I become this character when on screen, still me but more outgoing!

What has been your favourite career moment so far?
Ooo there are so many- the last 2 years I have been crazy doing stuff, stuff I have dreamt of doing- being able to sing the National Anthem is definitely up there.

    What’s next for you?
There are lots of projects in the pipeline and gigs – go to nadiaforde.com for all the info on my gigs.

Daniel Alexander Releases “EVOCATIVE” EP August 26th, 2014

Daniel Alexander releases “EVOCATIVE” his debut EP under Tate Music Group. This 4-track EP features fragments of R&B and Pop while not shying away from the pulsing rhythms of electronic dance music. With his unique sound, Daniel Alexander is sure to leave you restless, yet out of breathe, and evoking you to blur the lines between what is masculine and feminine.

A star from birth, Daniel Alexander staged performances on a makeshift stage in his Miami home for his family. He demanded attention with cleverly planned skits and pop culture interpretations often followed by a dramatic rendition of ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.” No one knew then that Daniel Alexander was molding himself into the ground breaking and trail blazing artist he is today. “My music stems from the deepest and most personal melodies of my untamed mind” explains the half Cuban half El Salvadorian music artist. “As an artist I infuse pop and dance music with infectious drum lines and sexually driven lyrics that we can all relate to once we let down our guards.” Daniel Alexander has noticed big changes in the music industry since he began recording four years ago. In the beginning of his career producers tried to force him into being a mainstream cookie cutter pop artist. Fearing his music would lose its identity and essence Daniel Alexander resolved to remain true to his artistry even if it meant he would not achieve high record sales. “I said to the producers you can keep your money, cars, and chicks, just give me a mic and some glitter.” He sees other artist following a similar path. “Artists are finally taking a stand against the industry. I for one am relieved that I have remained true to my principals. The freedom to express myself honestly is what makes me feel beautiful.”

“Today’s youth are the first to realize that music doesn’t have to be black and white. I sing songs that might be considered more appropriate for female singers but my ability to show a different side of masculinity is what sets me apart from other male artists. I pull off the femininity the song demands, so why shouldn’t I sing it?” Life, heartache and happiness are the three main ingredients that inspire Daniel Alexander’s songwriting.

Here is Daniel’s 2012 hit, Touch Me.

The Ultra Violets Release New EP

The Connecticut rock quartet known as the Ultra Violets have released their latest EP record, “All the Noise in Your Head.” The EP is composed of six original tracks for an approximate total listening time of 23 minutes. It has been published as an independent release without support from the corporate music infrastructure. Stylish, raw, and refreshingly unique at a time when rock ‘n’ roll perhaps needs something new more than ever, “All the Noise in Your Head” is a fresh tone from the state which brought Rivers Cuomo, Keith Richards and John Mayer to global acclaim.

The Ultra Violets cite as main artistic influences only four sources of inspiration, the Flaming Lips, Radiohead, Muse, and the White Stripes. Their official Facebook page has the crew describing their music with the following tongue-in-cheek list of genres and subgenres: “rock, indie, psychedelic, space rock, folk, garage, ummm…”

Their bio page describes them as “a band out of northwest CT who play songs about space, love, monsters, and whatever else is buzzing around in their brains.”

Speaking of the lyrical themes and overall tone of their new EP, the Ultra Violets write, “Our album says that there are many colorful moods and circumstances that make up all of us, and that there is a fitting feeling, sound, or song for all of them. ‘All the Noises in your Head’ was an attempt to bring together many of the various types of songs that we produce as a band and perform live. So all in all, this is the big picture of what we are as a band right now, encompassed in just a few songs, a glimpse of things to come, when these noises continue to work themselves out into whatever we make next.”

The Ultra Violets have been playing together in various incarnations for a little more than two years.

“We formed a couple years ago,” they write, “and have had many adventures playing shows all over CT. We have a fan base extending outwards from our home base of Torrington, and are looking forward to sharing our music from this EP and beyond with a wider audience.”

Music fans around the world can be part of this wider audience beginning August 23, 2014, when “All the Noise in Your Head” by the Ultra Violets becomes available globally online at http://www.amazon.com/All-Noise-Your-Head-EP/dp/B00MD61JCM/.

“K2: Siren of the Himalayas” Opens in Theaters

First Run Features presents the new award-winning feature documentary “K2: Siren of the Himalayas” in New York City starting Friday, August 22.

The film is slated for three screenings per day during its week long run at The Quad Cinema (34 W. 13th Street).

Filmmakers Dave Ohlson and Jason Reid will be in attendance at select screenings on opening weekend.

“K2: Siren of the Himalayas” follows a breathtaking high-altitude mountaineering experience presenting the stunning vistas, perilous adventure, close teamwork and blissful serenity that is part of an elite climbing group’s 2009 attempt to summit the world’s most challenging peak.

The Village Voice wrote that the film is “as thrilling as any Hollywood summer blockbuster, with real-life plot twists of death, unexpected heroism, and surprise endings.”

Tickets are available on the Quad Cinema website: http://www.movietickets.com/pre_purchase.asp?movie_id=188…

Shot in the Karakoram range of the Himalayan mountains of Pakistan, “K2” follows world renowned alpinists Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner — National Geographic Explorer of the Year and the first woman to reach all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters without porters or supplemental oxygen; Jake Meyer, the youngest Brit to climb the Seven Summits; and veteran North American alpine leaders Fabrizio Zangrilli and Chris Szymiec.

Director Dave Ohlson followed this elite group’s attempt to summit the world’s second-highest peak, K2, in 2009, marking the 100-year anniversary of Italian exploration of the Duke of Abruzzi and Vittorio Sella’s landmark expedition to the same peak in 1909. Rare archival footage and vintage photos from the Duke’s attempt, as well as his commentary, provide a historical perspective on extreme mountaineering expeditions throughout the past century.

Mixed amongst the spectacular views and harrowing mountain experiences of the climbs is the stunning history and breathtaking geography of the Karakoram mountains, where each climber contemplates the risks, rewards and personal nature of exploration in an age when there are few blank spots left on the map.

“K2: Siren of the Himalayas” had its world premiere at the Banff Mountain Film Festival in Canada and then made its U.S. Premiere at Mountainfilm in Telluride in 2013. It has played several international festivals, winning the “Grand Prize” at both the Torello Mountain Film Festival in Spain and the Bansko Mountain Film Festival in Bulgaria; “Best Action Sports Film” at the Salyulita Festival in Mexcio and the “Best Audience Award” and the “Golden Spiffy” at the Spokane International Film Festival.

    ABOUT THE CLIMBERS
Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner – Alpinist / Explorer of the Year
Originally from Austria, Gerlinde now calls Germany home, where she lives with her husband Ralf Dujmovits. In 2011, Gerlinde became the first woman to climb all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks without oxygen when she reached the summit of K2 via the rarely climbed North Pillar route. She was named the 2012 National Geographic Explorer of the Year.

    Jake Meyer – Alpinist
Jake is based in the UK near London. When he was 21 years old, he became the youngest Brit to climb the Seven Summits after reaching the top of Mt. Everest. He is a sought after speaker for corporate and charitable organizations, where he uses his experiences in the mountains to motivate and entertain.

    Fabrizio Zangrili – Alpinist
Based in Colorado, Fabrizio spends a good portion of every year guiding in Nepal, Tibet and Pakistan. When he’s not guiding, he pursues personal goals on some of the biggest mountain faces in the world.

    Chris Szymiec – Alpinist
Based in the Canadian Rockies, Chris spends most of his time guiding on mountains in India and Pakistan. He has led successful expeditions to several 8,000-meter peaks including Cho Oyu and Broad Peak.

The Duke of Abruzzi – 1909 Explorer
The Duke led expeditions all over the world during the late 19th and early 20th century. He travelled to the Wrangell St. Elias Range in Alaska, the Rumenzori’s of Africa and in 1909 he travelled to K2 to “contribute to the solution of the problem as to the greatest height to which man may attain in mountain climbing.”

    Vittorio Sella – 1909 Photographer
Sella was undoubtedly the greatest mountain photographer of his time. He accompanied the Duke on several expeditions and also explored the Alps and Caucusus extensively. He was considered a master by none other than Ansel Adams.

Dave Ohlson – Director / Producer
Dave is a photographer, filmmaker and student of life. His interests in climbing and photography have taken him to Africa, Tibet, Nepal and Pakistan. When he’s not enjoying the outdoors, he’s currently pursuing a degree in medicine.

    REVIEWS
“4.75 out of 5 Pitons. This is a REAL movie about REAL climbing… the most accurate and down-to-earth depiction of big mountain climbing out there.”
    – Sierra Journal

“Some of the most gorgeous modern mountain cinematography I’ve ever seen. Even if you’re not into climbing or hiking, expect to be transported by the incredible views of the Karakoram Range.”
    – Yakima Magazine

“The cinematography knocks you on your heels, amidst stunning giants above sweeping glaciers… Extremes in climbing share a certain kind of calling, but this song of K2 has a pull all its own.”
    – The Union

“Not only manages to convey the seductive and fatal beauty of the queen of the Karakoram but also expresses the spiritual bond that grows between men and women who share this addictive environment… Do not miss it!”

UK Trance Luminaries To Release New Collab

Two of the UK’s most prolific shapeshifters, Grammy-nominated producer, Andy Moor and industry icon Lange, have joined forces for a driving, pulsating track that gives the often abused PR power phrase highly anticipated record true meaning. ‘Top Of The World’ features a stunning display of inspired synth work and drum patterns, melded with distinguishable trademark aural elements. The track’s added punch comes by way of elusive songbird, ‘Fenja’, with a hedonistic vocal refrain that is as contagious as it is resonant. Together the trance triple threat delivers a single magnum opus that won’t soon be forgotten.

As recently played on back to back episodes of A State of Trance, as well as gaining support from nearly every other fellow major player, Top Of The World illustrates how each of these internationally recognised icons continue to craft the sonic blueprints of melodic heart-thumping hit records.

‘Top of the World’ will be available as a Beatport exclusive on the 25th of August & will hit all digital retailers on the 8th of September.

Daniel David’s Solo Single ‘Me an U’ Released 28th August

Hailing from East London and the creator of gritty dance pop tracks, Daniel David is no stranger to music industry success. He was part of an urban music group with none other than Labrinth, Daniel has played huge stages, such as the Radio 1 Big Weekender in front of 70,000 people, as well as winning an Urban Music Award for Best Video and being nominated for a MOBO – losing out only to JLS.

Now working on a solo career, his new single ‘Me an U’ is a bass heavy, infectious tune inspired by a chance meeting with Cheryl Cole in London’s exclusive ‘The Box’ nightclub. At the time, the singer was going through her high profile issues with ex-husband Ashley Cole, and the song was written as an offer of escape

You can hear the single here:

Daniel David is an artist who continues to build a reputation amongst his peers and the music fans, particularly in London. Amongst those voicing their support for his work you will find the likes of Plan B, Professor Green and Paul Young, not to mention aforementioned band mate Labrinth.

It’s a growing reputation that stands him in excellent stead going forward, particularly if he continues to release high quality tracks with great production like ‘Me an U’.

Daniel is also an artist who takes seriously the development of young talent in the music industry, having started a label called Eagle Rush Global to help give younger people a chance in the industry as well as create in imprint for his own work.

It’s this kind of attitude and work ethic that is likely to see Daniel David to the top of his game.

Storms Unveil New Track, Headline in London

Hotly tipped London band Storms return this month with a brand new track, and a headline performance at London’s Koko on August 22nd.

‘Undress’ is the 2nd of 3 new tracks the band are releasing over the summer. The song, according to guitarist Felix Howes, is about “ the stagnation of a couple’s relationship and the things you will try in hopes of reviving its past glory.” Once again the band have created a video to accompany the song.

The previously released song ‘Swell’ has so far reached almost 5000 views on YouTube and is fast becoming a live favorite. The 3rd song in the summer trilogy is expected to drop in late September, which we are still calling summer! Having forged their reputation with a string of exciting gigs in and around the capital, the band have quickly built up a strong word of mouth following.

Late in 2013 Storms hit the road with Broken Hands and played a bunch of UK dates, which marked their debut British tour.

NIGHTS ‘HEY LOVE HELLO’ RELEASED SEPTEMBER 15th

Nights are a 4 piece from Newport, Wales originally formed by Antony J Smith and Mikee Gregory. The pair met when Antony moved to Newport to study art, the same course that had drawn Joe Strummer there in 1973, and, as Mikee’s flat was directly above Antony’s, it was inevitable they would soon be partying together and working on music.

The final pieces of the puzzle came in the form of Gareth Pearson (Guitar) and John Myles (Bass). Gareth, one of the countries leading acoustic guitar players, had been living and touring the US/Canada, John modeling in London. When Mikee and Antony found out that Gareth was back in the UK and John had just moved back to Newport from London they asked them both to join. Nights were complete.

Given his fascination with music from an early age – Mikee started to discern between Motown and Reggae at the age of six – new single ‘Hey Love Hello’ is the product of two very different, equally haphazard, lifelong, musical educations and an illustration of the ‘no walls’ approach of Mikee and Antony to writing songs.

The first chance to hear the complete Nights comes with new single ‘Hey Love Hello’, released on September 15th via Necessary Records. Listen to the single here:

The ‘Hey Love Hello’ video features bearded alt-model Carlos Costa and his girlfriend enjoying each other on a London Bridge. Non-stop. For the entire song.

First Listen: Duologue – Drag & Drop

    341048_246733975372685_965958482_o

Duologue are pleased to announce the details of their new single, and the first
to be taken from the forthcoming second album, Never Get Lost.

Drag & Drop will be released on the 8th September to coincide with the release of the band’s previously announced new album.

Vocalist Tim Digby Bell: “Drag & Drop was one of the first tracks we recorded on the new album, and it’s a pretty good bridge between our debut album and the new one. The idea came from the term for moving files and it sums up how the digital age is affecting our relationships. Everything seems more and more disposable and less and less permanent.

“For all our instant connectedness, it’s strange how we can perhaps feel more alone than ever before.”

Never Get Lost was written, recorded and produced by the band themselves in London, New York and Kent. The band co-mixed the record with Ian Dowling (Jungle/Cloud Control) for the rest.

This new record finds the quintet in uncompromising form, building ambitiously on their brooding electronic sound from 2013’s ‘Song & Dance’ LP, and nurturing it into somewhere that references their broad range of influences, but finding them come together in a unique and unexpected place.

Never Get Lost is a record that best portrays Duologue – an expressive, melodic guitar band with glitchy electronica at their heart and soul. It defies categorization or genre, without being alien.
