The Vellas are one of the most exciting bands to have emerged from the Sheffield scene in recent years, two of the band’s members call the city home with two more coming from neighbouring Derby. The four piece rock and roll band are Daniel Harbey (vocals and guitar), Ryan Laycock (vocals and guitar), Ethan Grzesiek (bass) and Alex Wood (drums) who are influenced by the likes of Echo and The Bunnymen, Joy Division, Circa Waves, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Honeyblood and Alvvays,
Having already supported Catfish and the Bottlemen and Misty Miller, the band looked to recorded ‘Sweethearts and Counterparts’, their second EP, with established producer Alan Smyth of 2Fly Studios, who has previously recorded with Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and The Makers and Little Man Tate.
Expect upbeat melodies, accomplished musicianship and some really exciting ideas from this band, named after the Tamil word for ‘roaming free’.
