Teagan Johnston has released her new single titled ‘Blue Monday’, from her upcoming album ‘Sentimental Ballad’ , releasing later this year.

Teagan has a fire burning in this track. It’s subtle, but its there. I think that fire is a combination of yearning and situational emotion. She wears her heart on her sleeve, but wears it well. Venting as a creative outlet. I wish we all had that way about us; to turn life events into beautiful music. And that is what ‘Blue Monday’ is. Beautiful music. In it’s purist form. A combination of old school composition and new world expression, Teagan Johnston resides between the two.

About ‘Blue Monday’

Formerly known as Little Coyote, Teagan Johnston, is a singer-songwriter who drives the genre beyond its current borders, bringing a radical rawness to her work that hits you in your heart. Born in the Yukon, raised between South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and the West Coast of Canada, Teagan brings a vast and ever layered perspective to her work. With plans to release her debut album this year, Teagan now presents her first single from the full-length work, ‘Blue Monday’. The dark-pop offering is an introspective and emotional piano-ballad, driven by a delicately wistful vocal line and haunting instrumentation.

“Blue Monday details the events leading up to a breakup. It is a deeply personal song that explores drug addiction, the loss of a partner and the feeling of begging someone to stay at the cost of yourself.” Teagan shares the meaning behind the track.

“The lyric “Cut into me like a Blue Monday midnight driver” refers to a carjacking that happened near my apartment while I was going through this breakup. The story of the car jacking as it was told to me was that on Blue Monday a car jacker stabbed someone and took their vehicle. After hearing the story I imagined the victim of the carjacking victim sympathizing with the carjackers’ need to “just get away” as I was with my partners’ need to leave our relationship.” Teagan adds

Compared to the likes of Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor, and Nick Cave, Tegan’s debut ‘The Trouble with Teeth’ was released in October 2017 with the enthusiastic support of EggHunt Records. Her following 2019 EP, Stay Gold, received many accolades and acclaims from various media outlets, such as Noisey and PopMatters. A seasoned and experienced live performer, at home playing solo or backed by a band, Teagan has toured North America and Europe, including performing a special set at David Lynch’s prestigious private Paris nightclub Silencio.

About Teagan Johnston

Teagan Johnston’s music is strong and powerful while also holding space for softness and vulnerability. Combining her delicately detailed piano playing with lyrics full of love and longing, Teagan seeks to explore human darkness and the fabric of our dreams. She weaves intricately dynamic songs that are sure to haunt you in a way that soothes your soul, and provokes warm memories of long lost romances.

Teagan partakes in several art forms outside of music as a means of communication and creative expression. She has modelled for Canadian fashion designer Evan Biddell, and written OP ED articles for The Toronto Star and She Does The City. In 2019 Teagan played her breakout acting role as Catherine in a Canadian Indie Horror movie The Strings as well as composing original music for the film. Outlets such as The New York Times, The A.V. Club , Bloody Disgusting and more have called Johnston’s performance and music in the film “commanding” and “magnetic.”

Teagan’s debut full length record under her given name Teagan Johnston will be released in 2022. Titled ‘Sentimental Ballad’, the album will be a raw expression of heartache through minimalistic piano and lyrically driven songs. Blue Monday will serve as the first single off of this album in January 2022.
