Chris Scholar drops his new video for the track titled ‘Northside’. Featuring a beautifully crafted, laid-back kind of flair, Chris manages to break free into his own once again with a melodic blend of hip-hop, R n’ B, and old school croon from a multi-faceted artist who has a vision and knows how to execute it with a music video that plays like a mini-movie that scores to the track and not the other way around.
About Chris Scholar
Chris Scholar is an independent recording artist that claims titles of singer, rapper, writer, video director, and editor. Having written for Ariana Grande, Chris Brown and 2 Chainz, as well as directed videos for Trippie Redd, Wiz Khalifa, Tank, and French Montana, it’s fair to say these aren’t just claims, Chris owns these titles.
The visual for Northside is a coming of age love story, taking place in Richmond, Virginia, the hometown of Chris Scholar. Directed and edited by Chris, with shots coming from his crew of friends, the video depicts cultural landmarks packed with dreamy effects. Since moving to Los Angeles 3 years ago, this visual is the first that Chris has filmed back in his old stomping ground. Following a loose narrative, the video shows Chris and his love interest who is from the opposite side of town, whilst playing with concepts of dual reality.
The track boasts a sensual midtempo vibe with Chris’ vocal switching between falsetto choruses and clean spoken verses. The contemporary R&B track is an easy listen, cooly composed and highly commercial, with vibrant percussion and hats that cut through the pads, Northside was produced by Brandon Randolph and December Moon, who has produced for Young Thug, Wiz Khalifa, Hussle and more, and that experience translates into this record, alongside Chris’ stunning performance. Chris states that “Northside is an ode to my roots. My beginnings in love, a sort of coming of age story that many of us experience.”
