Crown and the Doubt have premiered their new video titled ‘Dirty Little Secret’. Crown and the Doubt are the brainchild of JJ Baker. Thoroughly steeped in the workings of tune and tone in guitar and sporting an impressive collection of Les Pauls, JJ is someone who has found his sound and happened to make a video as a helpful introduction to his music. And that music is a harmonious rendition of what guitar-rock needs to go back to in order to start playing air guitar again. Save a spot at the arenas for JJ Baker.

About Crown and the Doubt

Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter JJ Baker began his musical journey at 6 years old when he got his first guitar. He spent hours in his room imitating C.C. DeVille from Poison, dancing around to Talk Dirty To Me, while dressed up in a wig and makeup, scaring the life out of his father in the process.

By the age of ten he had broadened his musical influences and was learning to shred along with guitarists like Randy Rhoads and Kirk Hammett. Classic rock icons like Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix & David Gilmour all fed into his style, as well the undeniable impact of his father and brother listening to bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and Rush. Growing up as a 90s teenager there was no way he could escape the pull of the grunge scene with bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains all getting thrown into the mix.

He had made his first studio record with his band Sonic Endeavour at the age of just 13, going on to record more albums throughout the 90s & 00s. Over the following years, he has been in everything from a Grateful Dead tribute to an Irish band, as well as teaching music.

The real turning point came following a chance encounter with Hannah, a British poetry writer. After discovering a shared back catalog of musical interests, he played her a few original songs and she began encouraging him to take his music into the studio. Within no time at all, they were collaborating on songs and writing lyrics together, and if you fast forward to today, they currently have a catalog of 70+ songs written and ready to share with the world.

Crown and the Doubt is the result of J.J. and Hannah’s joint passion for music, drawing on years of experience and influence. They pay homage to all the amazing styles of music that have come before them, paying respect to the music that has given their lives meaning.

If you had to sum their music up in a sentence it would be a mix of heavy guitar-driven riffs and classic rock drums, all pulled together with wonderfully heartfelt lyrics.

There is a quote by Roald Dahl that goes, “I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it, and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good.” That sums up perfectly how we feel about Crown and the Doubt. Our aim as a band is to carry on creating music that we can have the most fun playing live, lyrics that people can shout back at us, and records that people want to crank up loud! Lukewarm is no good… We love what we do, we love creating music, and we hope you love it too.

About ‘Dirty Little Secret’

‘Dirty Little Secret’ tells the story of two lovers involved in a forbidden romance. While the narrator’s love interest spends hours talking and texting him at night, all those messages are promptly deleted the next morning as she carries on with a committed relationship by day. The video expresses how darkness can fester from feelings of being used and losing control of life.
