The Chimpz

The Chimpz

The first time I heard The Chimpz song, “California” was in August when we made it The Daily Dose. To be honest, I fell in love with the song because it was one of those rare pieces of music that could stand on it’s own without any sort of visual stimulant to go along with it. “California” is one of those rare moments in audio entertainment where two forms of music so seamlessly meld together without one over-powering the other. Anyone that’s ever heard of Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock can tell you that. Not that I’m knocking either of those acts but, let’s get real for a second, sometimes they become a parody of the genres they’re trying to combine. The Chimpz do no such thing. The more I hear the song the more I realize that these are not only musicians, but homage-payers to the styles they represent. They’re paying tribute to the rappers and rockers of old that made it all possible to get inspired to get up and make something of yourself or at least get up in the morning.

So with that in mind take a look at the brand new video for “California”. They have actually done the near impossible by visually representing their music in not only a positive way, but an entertaining one as well. Through the direction of Michael Valentino The Chimpz deliver 3 minutes 38 seconds of feel-good cinematography that makes the music worthy of being the state song of “California”.

When you see this video, you will know exactly where they are coming from and why the have so much love for the State of California. The Chimpz hope that this video will entice the rest of the world to come to their home state and experience what they get to live and experience everyday.

“This video was so much fun and really crazy to shoot. It was shot in 4 days in six locations including Downtown L.A.(special thanks to Styliztik Jones), in North Hollywood, Venice Beach, County Line Beach and a secret spot off of P.C.H., all which included some pretty difficult shoots because of factors such as traffic, parking, wind, lighting, and tricky weather. But thanks to our director and camera crew, we were able to pull it off!

Special thanks to our director and director of photography Michael Valentino. To Eric Pacheco for assisting in the filming and bringing all his fun gopro toys! Editing and post production by Shawn Lyon and Michael Valentino. We had an amazing cast and crew and the energy from our fans and extras was overwhelming and very much appreciated! This video is for you ChimpzNation! We love you and appreciate all of your continued support!”

Lyrics:
Time flies when ya livin in the city
Where everybody knows ya gots to stay gritty
Sounds dope when you play it on a midi but since life is live, can’t cope? You ain’t getting’ no pity
so we keep truckin’ homie real hustle, keep it blue collar fresh step with sheer muscle
Press go if you really wanna eat then bathe up in the sunshine sand on ya feet
but uh uh I would never trade. Why, why? Cause I’m about the craze
I will always keep my path ablaze that’s the California way

Chorus

When I wake up in the morning with that sunshine on my face
I remember why I came here ’cause there ain’t no other place
It reminds me of ambition, ain’t nothing like a paper chase
So I’ll see you when you get here
See you when you get to California
To California

This is a state where everyone you love or hate
Is feeling sunshine on a stormy day
’cause California is feeling that sunshine, ’cause California is feeling that sunshine
I get to thinking everytime when times get tough you think you had enough
But you gots to get up.
You gotta take your time at the end of the day
You’ve been hustlin really hard all work and no play
’cause all the hot chicks are looking fine
All the money will get you to the front line
Club is hot and I’m looking to play
That’s the California way

Chorus
When I wake up in the morning with that sunshine on my face
I remember why I came here
’cause there ain’t no other place
It reminds me of ambition
Ain’t nothing like a paper chase
So I’ll see you when you get here
See you when you get to California

Hey … Hey

When I wake up in the morning
With that sunshine on my face
I remember why I came here
’cause there ain’t no other place
It reminds me of ambition
Ain’t nothing like a paper chase
So I’ll see you when you get here
See you when you get to California

You know you want to do it, this is where we live, so Suck It Up Tough It Out, Nothin’ To It
in California

You know you want to do it, this is how we live, so Suck It Up Tough It Out, Nothin’ To It
In California

You know you want to do it, this is where we live, so Suck It Up Tough It Out,
Here In California
