Containing a reckless abandon that is too often imitated but never duplicated, the tracks that comprise the new EP from Alpha Shallows’ “Set The Fires”, have that reckless care to the wind feeling running through each note of each song. Not since Pearl Jam’s “No Code” have I heard that stylistic risk pulled off with such bravado. Well done!
“Set The Fires” will be released on December 15th.
About Alpha Shallows:
Alpha Shallows are an Indie Rock band from Leeds/Wakefield who formed in March 2014. This collective came together having all performed in a number of bands across different genres. Bassist Gary infuses a punk/synth feel whilst drummer Ben comes to the band from a metal background, performing with the Boneyard Babies. Vocalist Ken and guitarist Joicey have enjoyed a very productive songwriting partnership for several years.
The band’s diverse list of influences have led their music down a dark and gritty path. The intriguing vocals of storyteller Ken combined with the band’s strong image enhance the atmosphere created by their music and these elements have combined to produce a superb debut EP ‘Set the Fires’, recorded at Greenmount Studios with Jamie Lockhart.
Since their inception Alpha Shallows have enjoyed extensive support. They’ve been invited to play gigs across their home county of Yorkshire, including the highly respected Long Division Festival in Wakefield (2014). Photographer Ed Fielding, who has previously worked closely with Paloma Faith and Gary Numan, has provided the photographs and artwork for the EP. Three of the tracks on ‘Set the Fires’ have already been championed by BBC Introducing in North and West Yorkshire and the full EP is available to stream on Soundcloud.
