Filligar has today released their new and eighth studio album titled ‘Future Self’. Already known as an original sounding band that spans the genres as it does the world, Filligar show today what they were up to in their all-too-long hiatus.
Rooted in rock yet spread across the musical gamut, Filligar gives each listener their own new favorite track (mine is a tie between ’17th Hour’ and ‘Wait A Minute’), and show that diversity can mold into a coherent and relevant project.
About Filligar & ‘Future Self’
Filligar are a band that have been there and done it. Across 7 studio albums, they have covered all the ground possible within the indie, rock and full band spheres. Having received critical acclaim from many outlets and gained fans across the world, they have been hailed as “a modern breed of psych-rock” combining styles and influences ranging from The Beatles to Tame Impala. Consequence of Sound described Filligar as “admirably fresh” and throughout their journey have embarked on many a tour across the US and beyond with their unique brand of modernised rock ‘n’ roll.
After some time, the band has come together again to release their eighth studio album, ‘Future Self’. They have taken time out to hone and perfect their craft and create an honest body of work that speaks to the masses, both sonically and lyrically. The first single and opener to the album ‘The Force of the Feeling’ is a simply brilliant and powerful journey of a song, and depicts everything that Filligar are about as a band and group who have been together for the best part of twenty years.
Continuing this evolved and renowned sound, lead single ‘17th Hour’ is the perfect example. An air-tight production with a crescendo build of an introduction immediately warms the ears with the words ‘welcome back’ echoing above the almost dream-like soundscapes they have created. They experiment with some deep lying synths that transcend beyond the norm of today and draw you in with ease. ‘17th Hour’ is hugely potent in the writing too, with an excellent implementation of guitar riffs and catchy melodies that prolong the intrigue even further.
‘17th Hour’ along with the album, is a work of art and arguably Filligar’s most accomplished body of work to date, with each track single-worthy, and you can hear the little subtle elements that have made the biggest of differences throughout. It’s an epic release from the veterans, who return with a refreshed and mightily impressive new offering.
