grandson has today released his new single titled ‘Rain’ with Jessie Reyez and edited by Idris Elba. Originally from ‘The Suicide Squad’ soundtrack, ‘Rain’ gets kicked up a notch from the DJ skills of Elba and a slight re-imaging (original video below) to highlight the beat and add more harmony in a song that is already signature but now has a club vibe and a snarky attitude.

“We shot a sequence in the rain and I remember it feeling like a music video at the time,” Idris Elba shares about filming the movie. “I my head, I thought how sick it would be to write a song about the rain sequence. When I heard grandson and Jessie’s song I was so happy to get a chance to remix it and contribute it to the universe.”

“What can you say when a legend agrees to work with you?” says grandson. “It was a natural opportunity that came up through The Suicide Squad Soundtrack, and I’m beyond grateful Idris, a multifaceted artist I’ve been a fan of since I was a kid, agreed to add his touch of London house music to our song ‘Rain.'”

grandson has had a massive year and this new single follows “Oh No!!!” (also from The Suicide Squad), which featured rappers Vic Mensa and Masked Wolf and was included in the end title sequence of James Gunn’s action-adventure film. Previously, grandson teamed up with Jessie Reyez for “Rain,” the two Toronto-born artists’ first collaboration and its earth-shattering official music video. Electric neon lighting highlights the fierce and sultry Reyez and grandson as they fight their way out of getting captured like true Super-Villains.

Recorded exclusively for The Suicide Squad, “Rain,” which Ones To Watch calls a “cinematic, stadium-ready anthem,” is featured in the film’s latest trailer.

About grandson

grandson is the pseudonym of Canadian/American alternative artist Jordan Benjamin. He takes elements of his rock and roll, hip hop, and electronic music roots and combines them to tell stories of reclaiming power over one’s life, confronting social issues facing his generation, and opening up about struggles with addiction and mental health. Since releasing his Modern Tragedy EP series, grandson has toured extensively across North America, Russia, and Europe, accumulated hundreds of millions of streams online, and received co-signs from the biggest names in rock and roll and progressive politics, from Tom Morello to Bernie Sanders. grandson’s debut album, ‘Death Of An Optimist,’ is a body of work that conflates personal anxieties with political realities.

As the protagonist, grandson simultaneously explores the dark underbelly of his unrelenting optimism for change, by creating an antagonist, X. The record delivers a subtle A-side/B-side structure totaling twelve tracks that follow grandson and X’s dueling world views. Most recently, the platinum-selling alt-rocker collaborated with Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, Jessie Reyez for “Rain,” the exclusive single from the James Gunn-directed superhero film ‘The Suicide Squad.’ Additionally, for the end title sequence of the film, grandson joined forces with Chicago rapper Vic Mensa and Australian rapper Masked Wolf for “Oh No!!!” (From The Suicide Squad).”
