‘Datgytsylltu’ and ‘Chwarter i Dri’ is the new double A-side single by Los Blancos recorded and produced by Kris Jenkins aka Sir Doufus Styles (SFA, Gruff Rhys, Cate Le Bon, H Hawkline, Gulp) in Cardiff. On the surface, there is a brittle, tender and warm sound to ‘Disconnect’, with the Velvet Underground’s influence flowing through it, but when we dig deeper we hear a song that is full of danger lost to a life collapsing from the inside.
‘Chwarter i Dri’ also deals with harsh life issues, although the influence of the 90s American ‘Alternative’ sound of ‘The Lemonheads’ ‘It’s a Shame About Ray’ and ‘Slanted and Enchanted’ by ‘Pavement’ that runs through the song brings a positive and melodic feel to it. A poem from the work of Bukowski ‘The Escape’ influenced the theme of the song.
