“Hot Pick” of the UK Students Radio Chart Show 2016, The Step is an Indie Pop/Rock band based in London. Founded in Rome in 2007 by Stefano Donato, the band moved to London where Oliviero Fella joined in 2013.
After gigging in important venues around London and playing for Noel Gallagher at his official aftershow party in March 2015, the band released their debut EP in December 2014. Their single ‘Gravity’ has been played by over forty regional and student radio stations around the UK, and was been Record Of The Week on BFBS British Forces Radio, broadcast across twenty-three countries.
The Brazilian TV channel SBT chose ‘Gravity’ and ‘Something More’ as part of the soundtrack of TV Drama ‘Cúmplices de Um Resgate’ while their single ‘Let It Go Friends’ was been played in September 2015 by DJ Jim Gellatly on Amazing Radio. The band’s cover of ‘Across The Universe’ is on air now in all “Bill’s” restaurants around the UK on the morning playlist. “Horizon” has been picked to be part of the soundtrack of an Italian movie ‘On Air’ which was released on 31st of March 2016.
February 2016 saw the band playing twenty-three universities around the UK for the Coffee House Sessions, and during the summer of 2016, The Step played live in Rome as well appearing at Camden Rocks Festival, Taste Festival, Sofar Sounds and Staycation Festival.
The Step’s music is a mix of introspective lyrics, bittersweet echoing blends of post-Brit Pop and the Italian alternative background. Passionate pianos, jittery guitars, dynamic drums and romantic lyrics are infused with insecurity and doubts juxtaposed with the will to rise and make it, each track is a personal statement of intent.
The Single ‘Stay Awake’ was written and produced by The Step, mixed by Liam Nolan (Adele ’25’) and mastered by Andy “Hippy” Baldwin at Metropolis Studio in London.
“A sensitive and thoughtful approach to life, love, and insecurity in a way many of us can relate to.”
“Seriously, It’s been too long since we heard something this promising.”
Mad Hatter Review
“Incredibly catchy guitar-driven tunes! Definitely worth a Lot of spins!”
“Their voices empower the atmosphere more-so than the energy of their guitars; the synchronised transcendence of their vocals and their instruments demonstrates the passion that lies behind The Step, a true meeting of mind and soul.”
T’Hud – Huddersfield Students Magazine
“As they head off for another interview the impression they’ve left remains strong in the air, igniting energy and excitement among all.”
