The New Southern Electrikk cannot be easily categorised. Drawing inspiration from Psychedelia, Krautrock and Post-Punk, the band craft dark, mesmerisingly beautiful melodies driven by grinding, sexy undertones. Monica Ward’s versatile vocals can be as ethereal as they are deep and soulful; capturing her audience in the palm of her hand with a voice that is sinister yet alluring.
Zach Davies’ flowing guitar shimmers over StevenTajti’s gritty, throbbing basslines with Rikki Turner’s keys and backing vocals providing a darker edge. Jim Correy’s drumming is brooding and purposeful giving The New Southern Electrikk a solid base on which to build soundscapes that are visceral yet sultry.
The band enter the studio to record a double A side single at the end of the month, with work beginning on a debut album in the new year, but they’re already receiving a huge amount of attention. Less than twenty-four hours after releasing their first demo online, a cover of The Gun Club’s ‘Mother of Earth’, two of the UK’s most respected producers have shown interest in working with The New Southern Electrikk, and Evan Dando of The Lemonheads has declared himself a fan.
The New Southern Electrikk are Louder Than War’s ‘New Band of the Day’ and The Sunday Experience website describes Mother of Earth as “darkly brooding psychotropia that subtly edges and skirts around a ‘movement’ era New Order channelling superbly a post punked kaleidoscopia aura.”
“Cool reading of one of my favourite songs Mother of Earth! I dig it and I want to hear more.” Evan Dando, The Lemonheads
“Armed with a stunning haunting voice that drips a melancholia, sex and dangerous beauty, The New Southern Electrikk could be the soundtrack of 2015. This is the perfect version of The Gun Club’s stark and ghost-like Mother of Earth, dripping with emotion against a spectral atmopshere. They say this is a demo, it sounds finished to us!” John Robb, Louder Than War
“They sound great… super vocals and attitude, great expression.” Joe Foster, Co-Founder of Creation Records

Borrison Ivy started as an idea of Australian guitarist Richard Barber, while living in Dubai. There, the band played the Dubai Shopping Festival, Fete de la Musique and Motorsports Festival, while also opening up for acclaimed heavy metal band Nervecell. Upon moving to Honolulu, Richard recruited new band members and released the Hoku-nominated debut album Just Another Office Job to critical acclaim from The Honolulu Star Advertiser’s music reviewer, John Berger: “Mainstream modern rock Hawaii can be proud to claim.”
Borrison Ivy’s vision is to write the catchiest hard-rock songs they can, with a rocking beat, catchy melody and sing-along choruses. All of this is intended to be the vehicle that carries lyrical themes dealing with disappointment and overcoming shitty situations, whilst also celebrating the simple pleasures in life, such as booze and sex.
Drawing on the lyrical inspiration of Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Joel O’Keeffe (Airborne) and Motley Crue, as well as the musical genre of Malcolm Young (ACDC) and Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne), Borrison Ivy try to combine poignancy with viscerality, catharsis with disappointment and the sublime with the down-to-earth – all wrapped up as stomping rock songs.
A few songs that exemplify these themes, on the soon-to-be-released second CD “Running On Empty”, include Only Happy When I’m Drunk, which is about being exactly that. All I Asked For describes the narrow conception of heroism in society and how dying for your country is lauded as the most noble kind of hero activity. Candy Man is a plea for parents to stop brainwashing their children’s minds with idiotic, nasty religiosity. Hunt You Down describes the zeal of tribal factions and the militaristic means with which they need to be dealt with.
Borrison Ivy believe that most rock music can be positioned on a sliding scale with ‘just entertainment’ at one end, and ‘edification and catharsis’ at the other. The band try to slam their rock songs smack-bang in the middle.

Our special guest is Vivek Tiwary. Vivek is the #1 New York Times Best Selling Author of the graphic novel “The Fifth Beatle”, Tony Award winning Broadway Producer and founder of the multi-platform arts and entertainment company Tiwary Entertainment Group. We talk to Vivek about Brian Epstein and Brian’s true relationship, both business and personal, with The Beatles, his place in music history and more.
When people think of or discuss The Beatles, not many people consider Brian Epstein as he often remains hidden in The Beatles biography behind the likes of George Martin, Stuart Sutcliffe and even Pete Best but his roll in the history of The Beatles is every bit as important, if not more so.
We also talk with Vivek about his upcoming Broadway and film plans including bringing Alanis Morissette’s “Jagged Little Pill” to Broadway as he has done in the past with Green Day’s American Idiot. We discuss the past, the present, and the future, Vivek’s passion for all three being unparalleled. Listen to the interview and hear for yourself.

Victory Kicks started life in early 2013 as a home recording project for songwriter and guitarist John Sibley. After writing a large number of songs and realizing that waiting around for a record deal would mean that most would inevitably be forgotten, John decided to start piecing a recording studio together at home. Old songs were finished off and new songs were written and often recorded the same day with John handling vocals, guitar, bass and drums as well as production duties and working out how to do the latter as he went. Early EP’s and singles containing short, lo-fi pop songs were recorded and shared amongst friends and family.
Victory Kicks then went from solo project to band with the addition of friends from other London based acts and established its own record label with the release of its first official EP, Rockets for Ghosts in July 2013. Comprising seven home recorded tracks of short, catchy indie rock, Rockets for Ghosts was a success for the band garnering favourable reviews and receiving airplay for the first time on stations in both the UK and the US. Ghosts was followed by the release of three singles, including the song Radio Saves which saw the band make its debut appearance on BBC radio playlists.
Taking the decision to record music at home would allow the band the flexibility to record new songs as and when they were written and since the release of its debut EP in 2013 Victory Kicks has built something of a reputation for prolificacy – 2014 has already seen a full length album called The Decibel Age as well as a seven track EP called Emergency Noise. A third record called The Young Flood will be released on November 17th. Today, Victory Kicks is a four piece band consisting of old friends making home recorded music whenever possible.

A diverse group of famed musicians including Peter Gabriel, The Police’s Stewart Copeland, Rick Allen of Def Leppard, System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian and Grammy® Award-winning opera singer Sasha Cooke, have come together for a first-of-its-kind benefit album to deliver urgent humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza. Produced by Project Peace On Earth (PPOE), the album features 26 powerful musical tracks of healing and peace.
Peter Gabriel says of his decision to participate: “Although I am sure both the Palestinian and Israeli people would benefit enormously from a just and fair two-state agreement based around the ’67 borders, we have watched the Palestinians subjected to more and more suffering for far too long, especially in Gaza. Meanwhile their long held land is repeatedly stolen by force for illegal settlements. I am not and have never been anti-Israeli or anti-Semitic; I am anti-Israeli government policy, anti-injustice, anti-oppression and anti-occupation.
“There is clearly a growing movement around the world willing to speak out, including my own country’s Parliament. I am happy to be one of these voices now asking the Israeli government, ‘Where is that two state solution you have so long said you wanted?’ and more simply, saying, ‘Enough.’”
Serj Tankian adds that “helping to rebuild the lives of Palestinians in Gaza is a necessary and noble worldwide humanitarian prerogative that we must not shy away from. It’s the least we can do for a people that have suffered under an occupation, embargo, and invasion.”
Steve Robertson, PPOE founder and Executive Producer of the album, has conducted several awareness-raising peace projects in Palestine. He says that 2 Unite All was inspired by a report he saw about a young Palestinian girl who was in a coma from the bombing. “The doctors weren’t sure if she would survive, but said if she did regain consciousness, she would learn that her mother, father and sister had all been killed,” says Robertson. “My tears wouldn’t stop and I said to myself, ‘That’s enough. I have to do something now and offer some sort of healing support to the people of Gaza and this Middle East crisis.’”
Robertson called on acclaimed Indian composer Ricky Kej to produce the album, and he immediately accepted. “I just knew how important it was for me, and all people, to help bring awareness and an end to the suffering of the people of the Holy Land,” Kej says.
With over 2,100 people dead, more than 3,000 children injured, and over 370,000 Palestinian children in Gaza left traumatized after this summer’s assault, 2 Unite All proceeds will go directly to support the surgical and medical teams of Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) (http://www.pcrf.net/) and the vital psychological counseling supported by UNRWA USA (http://www.unrwausa.org/). PPOE will also lead a PTSD therapy effort with renowned psychotherapist Dr. Edward Tick and continue its peace initiatives in the Holy Land.
“Our music may not be able to rebuild homes nor bring back victims of violence, but at least it can soften hearts,” says Stewart Copeland. “Hard hearts allow violence in the Holy Land and softening up allows persuasion. Even the most flinty realpolitik analysis shows that ‘Kumbaya’ is more credible than ‘They Must Go.’”
Rick Allen of Def Leppard says, “Our world is finally focusing on resolving this conflict. Too many lives have been lost and too many innocent children and families remain perilously injured.” Lauren Monroe, Allen’s wife and songwriting partner, adds, “The beautiful people of Palestine require the world’s immediate medical support. Contributing a song to help bring necessary healing and resources to Gaza was the least Rick and I could do.” Allen concludes, “I’m encouraging all Def Leppard fans to buy a copy of 2 Unite All (http://www.2uniteall.com/) and support this cause.”
The 2 Unite All (http://www.2uniteall.com/) album, which features cover art from renowned illustrator Greg Spalenka and was made possible with the assistance of TuneCore distribution, is available for purchase at: www.2UniteAll.com.
The album, which was released on October 30th on Itunes (http://itunes.apple.com/album/2-unite-all/id935062995) and other online music stores, features 26 powerful musical tracks from:
Introducing a musician with a purpose. The purpose is showing the world how important it is to know what goes on around us. With all the issues going on in the world today, there is one thing that we can all stand together on, and that is the foundation of music. Let’s all stand together, unite, and check out what Tim Ciantar had to say during our interview.
Where are you originally from?
I was born in Sydney, NSW, Australia at the Royal North Shore Hospital, I lived there for 1 year and then moved to Niagara Park, on the Central Coast of NSW. I have remained here, in the same house for the last 25 years. Which almost feels crazy! I do like it here but I also love to be away from here at the same time. I Love to travel!
When did you start performing music?
I first picked up a guitar back in High School, when I was around 14/15 for memory. I have been writing music and performing it since then, although I have been doing it on a more serious level for the last 6 years or there a bouts. 4 of which were spent playing professionally in a band which I discuss more below.
Which instruments do you play?
I would say Guitar is my “Main” instrument of choice, always have loved guitar, but I do enjoy playing drums, percussion and also play a little bit of Bass and Keys. I don’t like to limit myself, always wanting to learn other instruments, I have a Mandolin, and plan on getting a Banjo, so really no limits, I love all sounds. I do sing a little bit as well.
Describe your music interests and abilities.
I love music and everything about sound. I hear things in my head and always strive to get them on paper, although sometimes this can be a challenging task as some of the ideas I hear cant be played because they are sometimes to technical for my abilities. However thats when Logic Pro (My software) comes into play! I Love the fact that any sound can be used and manipulated into another sound. Like for example, you pop a toaster. Doesn’t sound that interesting right? Well. You can then record that sound and change it up with effects and use it in a song. I have done this a few times. not with a toaster but other things.
I really like to step outside of the square when writing. Sometimes it is great to stick to common structures and ideas but what really gets me going is when people step outside the common boundaries for music, there really shouldn’t be boundaries but there usually is for some music. Especially a lot of the stuff you hear that goes mainstream. It’s not a bad thing, but it doesn’t hurt to do something different every once in a while!
I have a tendency to hear things in sound recordings that others cannot. It actually freaks me out sometimes, you know I might be listening to a mix that I was working on and hear a small noise that should not be there. Things like that. It is crazy.. I have the ability to really tune in to music, well not just music but sound in general.
What famous musicians inspire you?
This is a really broad question for me to answer as I listen to a massive variety of music, I have a collection of around 12,000 songs so it’s honestly very hard to answer this without ranting on about hundreds of bands. I really love, and have always loved the Progressive Rock/Progressive Metal thing, you know, bands like Between The Buried And Me, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, The Contortionist, and Bilo 3.0 bands like that.
But it’s definitely not limited to those few bands. There are many more that I enjoy, anything heavy is great, if its Metal I have probably heard it or heard of it, but I sometimes listen to Acoustic stuff, Electronic, Rap, and well just about anything, with the exception of a lot of mainstream music. Some of that stuff is utter shit. I’m always keen to discover new artists, and thanks to the the WWW, I have found so many new bands and artists to listen to. I listen to old new and in between.
I mean one of my favorite bands when I was younger was Judas Priest. Those guy’s rocked/still rock! Went through phases back in school, Metallica, Blink 182, One Dollar Short. A whole bunch of stuff, but I guess you could say my tastes have changed a bit. I still listen to that stuff but its predominately heavier stuff now.
I guess if I was to focus on single people, Devin Townsend is amazing, Steven Wilson is awesome, oh and I love The Civil Wars, they are an amazing duo, with sensational songwriting skills.
And in terms of playing, I love discovering new players, there is a YouTube channel called “Jam Track Central” which has a lot of amazing players, although I never forget players like Vai, Satriani, Petrucci Etc.
The list of musicians I like could go on and on and on!
What is some of your best musical memories?
I guess for me the day’s when I performed back at school, they were great times. I’d always be performing in front of the whole school at assembly, usually playing pretty heavy stuff, which I think some of the teachers didn’t really enjoy! I did many performances and always found great enjoyment from doing so.
I’m about to go off on a tangent here..
Later on though after school, I have some really great memories (And some really terrible ones) from when I was in a rock band called “October Rage”.
We were together for quite some time and later on we won a competition which gave us the chance to support “Bon Jovi” whilst they were in Sydney for three shows. That experience was probably the highlight of my career (So far!)
We also got to party with them at a very nice club in Sydney, the best part about that was meeting the man himself, he was still really down to earth and genuine which is unexpected with some big names. Same with the other members including Ritchie! A very underrated guitarist!
Following that we ended up heading over to the states to tour. There we went through many states, I cant remember all of them but these were the first lot. Texas, Mississippi, Ohio, Alabama, South Carolina, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia, and from there we traveled back over the West Coast, like California and nearby states. I guess I learnt a lot being on tour for almost 3 months, it was indeed an interesting up and down roller coaster ride and with most of it we just had to wing it as it was new experience for all of us.
We would be playing shows and be super tired because we would drive straight to the next place and basically have to try and get some sleep in the back of the tour van which was really difficult. It really recks your body and destroys your mind, but you have to keep on keeping on! Obviously with the right funding a tour could be more pleasant but where is the adventure in that!
We got to support Seven-dust whilst there and the last show that I played was at the “House Of Blues” with Steel Panther. That was a cracker of a show to leave the band on!
I decided to leave the band for many reasons, a lot of things just weren’t working out with a couple of the other members, and there were quite a few other issues that just did not get fixed. There are many things that people don’t realize about being in a band, like when your on stage everything seems well, but it’s just a show, you have to really get behind the scenes to understand all the other things that go on and how hectic things can really get. At times you want to knock people out or strangle them because it gets so intense. It’s crazy!
The last memory I have, well, its still current, is what I am doing now. I currently run a small and very laid back casual music production business! I also love to collaborate with different artists. This is pretty much my passion and love. Being able to do what I adore, writing music and letting people listen and enjoy! I plan on getting into music for film and TV etc.
What public events do you have coming up?
Well, I am playing some shows with the Trio I am in called “In Harmony”, at a little local place called Lizotte’s. Also planning a few gigs for the future too.
In terms of releases, I am always releasing new songs, nothing thats officially on iTunes or the like yet but always up on soundcloud/FB which I will plug at the end.
No showcases at this point!
What would you say to beginners to the industry, who are nervous?
A few tips and a few things I have learned… Well…. There are always haters, you have to embrace that, let them hate, they are just promoting you more. It’s still Publicity, if haters really hate something they should just shut their mouths and stop promoting!
There are also a lot of dodgy people in the music industry so prepare yourself for that down the track.
In terms of getting somewhere with music, well its not an easy feat. You have to work hard and never give up, be persistent and don’t change as a person. Always be true to yourself. Keep a positive attitude and never let setbacks put you off too much. I have had plenty of them, but I still do what I do.. Because I love it and music is something that I can say has gotten me through some tough times.
Again, I must re iterate that it isn’t an easy thing to make a living off, but it should never be about that, it should be about the passion and love for music!
Work hard and if you have something unique you will get there, if you don’t it will be a lot harder.
Get to know people in the industry, make contacts where possible and maintain strong relationships with people of importance in the industry.
How do you balance your music with your family and friends?
Honestly.
I don’t. Music seems to always take priority in any situation. Obviously family or friend emergencies are more important but apart from that, I would rather be doing music. On another note, I love my friends and family and always try to make time to see close ones each week. I stay very busy because of my lifestyle and lifestyle choices but I love it and would not change it for the world!
My friends, fans and most of my family are all very supportive of my music ventures, and that is what gives me motivation to keep going.
Do you get nervous before a performance?
You know what, I usually always get nervous before a performance, even with all the experiences that I have had and the many people I have played in front of, I still get pretty nervous before playing a set!
I find that its usually good nerves but yeah it never goes away.
Do you attend jam sessions?
I don’t know that I would call them jam sessions but I do frequently collaborate with others and have songwriting sessions to. Which are all great fun. And you get so many different ideas bouncing off each other in this sort of scenario. It’s really a great thing being able to write with different people.
I have had some bad sessions, not because I didn’t like the person or whatever, but more because some times musically you just don’t gel with that person. You need to have that for a session to work well. You need that bond and you have to be feeling pretty comfortable with the other individual.
When I am working, and recording other artists, it’s really important for me to build a good rapport with all of my clientele so that I can give them the best experience possible. And also the best product possible!
Is your family musical?
On my mums side, no. I don’t know my blood related relatives on my mums side as she was from an adopted family, and it was only recently a couple of years or so ago that she was re-united with her real mum and sister.
On my dads side, there is a little bit of a musical background, not a lot but a little. My grandfather played piano and my uncle also plays piano. My grandmother is very arty too, very well known artist in her local area!
So I am almost the black sheep of the family. Only one that listens to heavy metal. Haha..
How do you handle mistakes during a performance?
It’s super important when you make a mistake during a live performance not to make it obvious, its best just to continue and forget. Most of the time the crowd does not even realise it unless they know your songs very well. Sometimes if the mistake is quite bad it can put you off but you should never ever make it obvious. Looks better to just continue! Just laugh about it!
So what are your thoughts on Another Destiny Project?
I think the ADP is a great idea and I am glad to have discovered it through Sander Brandriet who is also a part of it. We met through SoundCloud and have kept in contact since. If it wasn’t for him I would not have known about the project.
I really do believe that this project has the potential to grow very large and even global if marketed well. Being able to collaborate with my friends is one thing but being able to collaborate with musicians from all around the world is crazy! It seems to be all running pretty smoothly at the moment. There are some really good songs coming along and of course I am working on a track too, a kind of Progressive Metal piece which I did most of the instrumentation for, and had Susana And Alexandra lend some parts also!
There is so much talent in the world and not enough of it is discovered, I hope that this project will give all the musicians a chance to get heard and be discovered on a massive scale!
How do you feel about working with artists from around the globe?
Its amazing that it’s actually possible to do. I think this is something that should be done more often. Music is a very universal thing and its something that can be heard anywhere around the world at any given time. It’s what keeps us going, its what makes us feel emotion and now we can share that feeling with other artists alike! Amazing!
Thank you!

TOUR DATES:

Combining the sounds of classic 60’s psychedelia with the likes of The Verve, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Primal Scream – Manchester based 4-piece The Watchmakers have created a unique blend of psychedelic laced rock ‘n’ roll that has been shrouded in mystery over the last 18 months. Their self-produced demos Before Questions Became and Waves have earned the band much critical praise and airplay from the likes of John Kennedy at XFM and BBC Introducing in Manchester and has led to seasoned music lovers and music industry insiders clamouring for more material.
Having sold out two self-promoted psychedelic happenings in Manchester in 2013 as well as playing with the likes of The Pretty Things, Jacco Gardner, Dark Bells and Exit Calm, the band performed at a BBC Showcase in February 2014 and were recommended as “one’s to watch” by BBC 6music.
The Watchmakers released two brand new songs – Illumination and Carpe Diem – in June 2014, selling out Night & Day Cafe for the launch night. The single has received widespread airplay, whilst NME described ‘Illumination’ as “putting the strut back into psych”.
“Imagine if Noel Gallagher’s solo record had actually been willing to cut loose and explore its boundaries, and you might be arriving somewhere near to their sound” – (Drowned In Sound)
“One of the juiciest psych-rock delights you could pluck from the music playing fields of the UK right now” – (Louder Than War review of Before Questions Became)
“The visceral charge of BRMC and the psychedelic adventure of Primal Scream” – (Manchester Evening News)
“Paint It Black/Tomorrow Never Knows meets Kasabian, with an added swagger and an energy all of its own. It’s a real dark, twisted, psychedelic rocker with a groove to move the listener” – (Louder Than War review of Waves)

Flom, who was recently featured on the cover of New York Observer, has developed a star-studded artist roster at Lava including the “Royals” superstar Lorde, whose single from Hunger Games, “Yellow Flicker Beat,” was the #1 most added song at Alternative Radio by a female artist in history. In an interview with the Huffington Post earlier this month, Flom said of Lava Records “[It’s] a small company, we have less than a dozen acts signed, but our batting average is very high…It’s really a wonderful moment.”
Lava Records, which just celebrated its thirteenth anniversary, was founded in 1996 by Jason Flom in partnership with Atlantic Records Group. In 2009, Flom reclaimed the Lava imprint and entered into a partnership with UMG’s Republic Records for new signings. The label is now the home to multi-platinum, award-winning artists Lorde, Jessie J and Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Flom has also served as the Chairman and CEO of music labels including Atlantic Records, Virgin Records and the Capitol Music Group.
Flom is also a philanthropist who has supported and championed various political and social causes and is a founding board member of The Innocence Project, a national litigation and public policy organization dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted people through DNA testing and reforming the criminal justice system. To date, more than 300 people in the United States have been exonerated by DNA testing, including 18 who served time on death row. He also serves as a board member for Families Against Mandatory Minimums, The Legal Action Center and The Drug Policy Alliance (a division of George Soros’ Open Society Institute). In addition, Flom supports various medical research organizations including The T.J. Martell Foundation and City of Hope. He was honored by the UJA as their first “Music Visionary of the Year” in 2000, was awarded 1999’s “Torch of Liberty” by the American Civil Liberties Union and he was the honoree at the 2009 Innocence Project Gala.

Melodic explorer, Postcards From Jeff releases Veronica. The eponymous Femme Fatale first emerged from a writing session in the multi-instrumentalist and producer’s studio, located in the bleak moors between Leeds and Manchester. Personifying a hyperreal yet impossible idea of femininity, of the kind portrayed by directors such as David Lynch and Alfred Hitchcock, Veronica is an exploration of the archetype rather than a condemnation or affirmation.
Musically, Postcards From Jeff seamlessly blends together far flung folk, electronica, country, krautrock and pop through a sonically curious adventure owing as much of a debt to Weilheim band The Notwist as to Ohio’s The National or even as far as Canada by taking inspiration from Neil Young. With praise and plays from the likes of John Peel and Steve Lamacq behind him, Postcards From Jeff’s musically inquisitive mind comes with a newfound confidence, as he looks forward to releasing his debut album in spring 2015.
‘Veronica’, the free to download single, gives us an indication of the themes explored in this highly anticipated debut.
“The idea of projection is running through the album.” Postcards From Jeff explains. “We’re influenced by the bombardment of aspirational images that come at us from all angles, giving us distorted perceptions of other peoples lives via film, television and social media. Ideas form; we see what we supposedly need to do to get ahead. I guess we can all be guilty of presenting heightened versions of ourselves to some extent and why wouldn’t we? Especially when that’s beneficial to our lives, but obviously there are some people who take that to very scary places/ I guess I’m always fascinated by people like that. I never really like to condemn anyone, I just like to ponder where they’re coming from…”

What People are saying:
“Somewhere poetry meets pop, electronica and folk dosado, film and reality collide and Postcards From Jeff takes all these inspirations and weaves them into new stories, new songs, new roads.”
Strawberry Tongue Radio, America“Postcards from Jeff’s self-titled debut EP is a thing of beauty, underpinned by cinematic pop soundscapes and the wonderful voice of singer Joss Worthington, whose voice seems strangely familiar yet entirely unique at the same time. Skilfully put together and masterfully executed, it is symbolic of this release as a whole.”
One Album A Week“Taking vast almost cinematic synth beds and layering them with indie melodies and a gentle and somewhat understated vocal, this is dreampop with expansiveness.”
I Love Pie“A dreamy ride that gets inside of you in a good way. This is a new type of dreampop, folks. Get on board, take a journey.”
In Your Speakers“Postcards From Jeff is the most complete, fully-formed new band I’ve heard for a long time. Joss Worthington and his band hold forth with the poise, skill and confidence of a band selling out stadiums. Musically, they’re somewhere between the dreaminess of Mercury Rev and the vastness of some of Sigur Ros’ poppier stuff. If this is Postcards from Jeff’s base level, they will have us in the stratosphere in no time at all.”
Silent Radio“A Brooding Indie Pop masterclass.”
Fecking Deadly“There’s something that feels so pure when it comes to this work, whether it’s the simple honesty of the lyrics or the orchestral effect of memorable drums, guitars and synths. The music video for “A House” echoes his attempts of bringing reality into broad daylight, through both the natural joy and sadness built into everyday lives.”

“Hoovey,” the inspiring story of Eric “Hoovey” Elliott’s triumph over a near fatal brain tumor, featuring an all-star cast that includes Lauren Holly (Dumb and Dumber, NCIS), Patrick Warburton (Emperor’s New Groove, Men in Black II) and Cody Linley (Hannah Montana), recently debuted at the Sunscreen Film Festival West among approximately 100 films, taking top honors as Best Feature Film.
The film is based on Jeff Elliott’s self-published book, “Rebounding from Death’s Door” and chronicles his son’s struggle to relearn how to walk, read and even see clearly, and to eventually play basketball again and recapture his dream. The screenplay, written by Howard Klausner (Space Cowboys), caught the attention of Soul Surfer director Sean McNamara and EchoLight Studios.
Vemma Royal Ambassadors Ruth and Jeff Elliott say they hope their family’s story of overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles and triumphing in the face of adversity will encourage others to realize they always have the ability to choose.
“Everyone at some point in their life is going to go through something; it’s inevitable,” explains Jeff. “You can’t control many things that might happen to you, but you can control your attitude. That’s a choice you get to make.”
Vemma makes an appearance in the film since it was a big part of the family’s emotional and financial recovery. An entire scene of the movie was filmed at Vemma’s 2013 Convention in Las Vegas where Lauren Holly reenacts a speech Vemma top leader Ruth Elliott made at the event. The speech addresses how Vemma helped her family after they had to literally sell the farm to keep their heads above water.
“Hoovey” will be playing at HD-ready facilities such as churches, high schools and universities around the country from January 31 to March 31. After that, based on the volume of attendees, the film will be released in theaters at select locations around the U.S. To bring “Hoovey” to your community, go to www.echolightcinemas.com and click on “Cinemas.”
In February, the Elliott’s hometown of Normal, IL will be hosting a special viewing at a recently renovated theater in town where ticket sale proceeds will benefit charity.

Michigan-based vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Jon-Paul Bakaric will release his debut solo record, The Reign Of The New Me Pt. 1, on November 4, 2014. Using the aptly named moniker, Bakaric, Jon-Paul assumes the role of frontman after spending years as a founding member of Detroit bands Strange Vacation, The Boys Of Summer, and That Was Something.
“This is an album for anyone who has ever reached rock bottom and had to reinvent themselves, piece by piece, brick by brick, day by day,” says Bakaric. The EP is the first of a two-part release, and includes the first single, “Surrender,” which features former bandmate, Josh Waldorf.
Jon-Paul produced the record and will release the companion EP, The Reign Of The New Me Pt. 2, in early 2015.
About Jon-Paul Bakaric:
Bakaric is a new solo project from songwriter and producer Jon-Paul Bakaric. The act will release its debut, The Reign Of The New Me, on November 4, 2014. The EP, which perfectly fuses elements of rock, alternative, electronic, pop, and house music, is the first solo release by the founding member of Strange Vacation, That Was Something, and The Boys of Summer. Jon-Paul wrote and self-produced the effort at Night Light Audio Productions, his project studio in Detroit, Michigan.
“The album focuses on a journey through Hell and back, where the main character endures a demanding emotional and spiritual transformation. A true coming of age story, “The Reign Of The New Me” begins in a very dark abyss, and evolves into a story of reincarnation, passion, and love,†says Jon-Paul. “This is an album for anyone who has ever reached rock bottom and had to reinvent themselves, piece by piece, brick by brick, day by day.” The EP is the first of a two-part release, and includes the first single, “Surrender,” featuring former bandmate Josh Waldorf.
Jon-Paul has toured coast-to-coast in the U.S. with his bands That Was Something, The Boys of Summer, and Strange Vacation. “The road is a relentless and often unforgiving experience, but essential to understanding art and life,” he says. “It helps you comprehend the unique dynamics of collective band members as well as their individual artistic needs. Music is passion, art, emotion, creativity, an explosion of thought, and work.”
In addition to his career as a recording artist, Jon-Paul is currently focusing his energy on developing individual singers, songwriters, and entertainers. Over the past decade, he has gained an extensive knowledge of audio engineering, production, composition, marketing, and managing art and artists. He elaborates, “It is crucial for an artist to see their ultimate vision come to life. I want to provide artists with a fruitful and creative environment that is tooled with sound design, composition, and marketing strategies. My mission is to breathe life into the artist’s vision, which is discovered through layered sound production and creative songwriting.”

FOREVER CULT are an alternative rock band based in West Yorkshire, making a loud albeit impressive noise, blending the ball-bustingly brutal moments of 1990s Seattle grunge with the jaunty pop-minded lyrical charm of mid-00s British indie. After spending some time as a two piece, Kieran (guitar and lead vocals) and Aaron (drums), have been joined this summer by Alex (bass) to complete the line-up, and record and release their debut EP, “Fuxx”.
“It’s really hard – if you are trying – to write a great song around the two minute mark. Forever Cult, through a channelling of some energetic hybrid of Grunge and Indie, manage it twice, with ease, most likely because they weren’t really trying. That’s just how the songs arrive, and sometimes that can the most special thing of all. The EP is dominated by vital, bottled lightning like directness, full of youthful vigour and passion, only slightly expanded upon for closing track Luck. So yes, I am excited. Go listen, download, and go see live, it’s that simple.” Rhubarb Bomb
“Sinking is an energetic punk rock influenced tune with some fantastic rock and roll vocals that feature throughout. Graves has a slightly darker tune that has some brilliant driving, menacing riffs that loom over you. The more melodic Luck ends the EP on an impressive note while making you look forward to any future material from the band.” Impropaganda
“[Fuxx] shows off their effortless ability to fuse punk tendencies and melodic leanings with a mid-Atlantic drawl. Opening track ‘Sinking’ has elements of Engine 88 and the Wrens about it whilst remaining resolutely indie at the same time. ‘Graves’, however, has more of an Arctic Monkeys feel about it, with a lip curl sneer and a sense of the glamorous – despite the song title. Final track ‘Luck’ starts as a lament with swagger but soon becomes a chugging juggernaut of a love song that many a band would be glad to have on their albums.” Listen With Monger
Following a busy summer including an appearance at Leeds & Reading Festival, Forever Cult return with their new double A-side single ‘Yasmin’/’OceanOceanOcean’. It will be released via Clue Records (AllUsOnDrugs/NARCS) on Monday 3rd November 2014.
A limited run of 100 hand-printed CDs will be available alongside digital formats via Bandcamp, iTunes etc. cluerecords.bandcamp.com

Hailing from the nation’s capital, the five-piece post-hardcore outfit of In Your Memory has chosen to not jump the White House fence and instead filmed a music video for their song “Layers Of Lies.” The track is taken off the recently released Reflections EP with vocalist Omar Veras commenting on the music video, “It’s always great to see a final project release! Although we had so much fun we made sure to keep it professional as well. We would like to thank the four kids that helped us in this video since they are the true stars.” The band will be hitting the road this fall and winter to support the music video and EP.
Formed in 2011, In Your Memory was born in Alex’s basement in Washington, D.C. The initial lineup consisted of Omar, Alex, Troy and John. The band soon after released their self-titled demo before experimenting with many sounds. In Your Memory then found precisely the sound that they were looking for, which was a sound consisting of powerful thrusting vocals, intensely deep jazz chords, throbbing bass lines, and exploding percussion. After touring off of their first release, In Your Memory began to write new music to showcase this new, matured sound. The release released in 2014 in the form of Reflections.

Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and Los Angeles Film Festival, is pleased to announce the producers selected for its 14th annual Producing Lab. The 2014 Producing Lab is supported by lead funder Time Warner Foundation. Additional funding is provided by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and National Endowment for the Arts. The four-week intensive program is designed to help filmmakers develop skills as creative independent producers. Producers participate with a feature length narrative project that they are in the process of producing. Through the lab, Fellows develop a strategy and action plan to bring their current projects to fruition. The lab also helps to further the careers of the Producing Fellows by introducing them to film professionals who can advise them on both the craft and business of independent producing.
This year’s advisors and guest speakers include Ram Bergman, Lisa Bruce, Karin Chien, Eric d’Arbeloff, Lindsay Doran, Cathy Schulman, and Leslie Urdang.
Film Independent also awarded the 8th annual Sloan Producing Grant to producer Summer Shelton with the feature film project The Buried Life by Joan Schimke and Averie Storck. Shelton received a $30,000 production grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The grant was awarded on October 25, 2014 at the Film Independent Forum, presented by Indiewire. For the past eight years Film Independent and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation have joined forces to increase the public understanding of science and technology and to challenge stereotypes of scientists, engineers and mathematicians through compelling artist-driven films made by new, independent voices. Past recipients of Film Independent’s Alfred P. Sloan Grants include the Spirit Award nominated Valley of Saints, as well as two films currently in post-production, The Man Who Knew Infinity which stars Jeremy Irons and Dev Patel, and Basmati Blues, starring Donald Sutherland and Brie Larson.
“Creative independent producers are the unsung heroes of independent film. We are thrilled and honored to be able to nurture and support this exceptional group of filmmakers as they shepherd these bold, artful and risk-taking stories to the screen,” said Jennifer Kushner, Director of Artist Development. “We are grateful for our continued partnership with The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, which enabled us to recognize the tremendous talent and dedication of producer Summer Shelton and her project, The Buried Life.”
“We are delighted to partner with Film Independent in supporting The Buried Life by Joan Schimke and Averie Storck as this year’s selection for the coveted Sloan Producing Grant,” said Doron Weber, Vice President of Programs at the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. “Four of the seven award-winning films from this program have been produced, with Basmati Blues and The Man Who Knew Infinity set for 2015 release. With the Sloan-supported The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything among this year’s early Awards contenders, science films are increasingly popular with audiences around the country and these exciting filmmakers are at the forefront of innovative storytelling.”
Filmmakers were chosen based on the strength of their submitted script, business plan, and creative vision. The Producing Lab is provided free to accepted producers, and upon completion, they become Film Independent Fellows, receiving year-round support including access to Film Independent’s annual film educational offerings and the Los Angeles Film Festival.
Recent projects developed through the Producing Lab include Joseph Wladyka’s Manos Sucias produced by Elena Greenlee and Marcia Nunes, which received the Best New Narrative Director Award at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival; Maryam Keshavarz’s Spirit Award nominated Circumstance, which was released theatrically in 2011 after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival; Aurora Guerrero’s Spirit Award nominated Mosquita y Mari, which premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival; Musa Syeed and Nicholas Bruckman’s Spirit Award nominated Valley of Saints, which premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival; Jenny Deller and Kristin Fairweather’s Future Weather, which premiered at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival; Suzi Yoonessi’s Dear Lemon Lima, which premiered at the 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival; and Tina Mabry and Morgan Stiff’s Mississippi Dammed, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2009 Outfest Film Festival.

Let You Go is the long awaited follow up to Ashea’s debut single ‘Whatcha Thinkin’ (featured on Clubland, Chartshow Dance & Vevo). Co-produced by Ashea and Red Triangle (One Direction, The Saturdays, Cheryl Cole, Ashley Roberts) and written by the multi-talented singer herself, Let You Go features an A list remix package from Wideboys (Kiss FM), TS7 (Kiss Fresh, 1xtra), Lynx (Hospital Records) & Deepmilo (Chartshow).
Ashea (described as Gwen Stefani meets Nelly Furtado) was born in the seaside town of Hastings to a family of singers & performers. Ashea worked with RAab Stevenson vocal coach of Rihanna and Justin Timberlake and was given career advice by pop legend Kelly Rowland during her sessions. With her performance skills honed, Ashea returned to Europe to learn music production. The Let You Go video was directed by up and coming talent Konstantin Ermakov who worked with Ashea to bring to life her original concept.
“‘Let You Go´ is about how experiences shape who we become, especially first experiences, which we rarely forget and which hold a place deep in our hearts and minds. I chose to shoot the video in a school environment as this is where most of us experience a lot of things for the first time. In the video I break into the head teacher´s office and find some keys, I then go with my friends and start dancing in the gym, surrounded by lights. I like to think that this signifies how, breaking the rules can sometimes be a good thing, and you may just find the key to where you want to be. I believe it´s important to surround ourselves with people that make us happy, things that we love doing, and go to places that inspire us… So essentially the meaning of the story is ¨Go do what you love, push boundaries, live how you want to live, have amazing experiences which you´ll want to never let go of…’ “ Ashea

The Airborne Toxic Event just released their first single from their upcoming fourth full-length album Dope Machines [Epic Records], “Wrong”, to iTunes and all digital retailers today. You can hear it at this link and purchase it here. The critically lauded, gold-selling Los Angeles outfit will unveil details for the album very soon. The new single sets the stage for the record as well as the next chapter for the group.
“Wrong” bristles with the inimitable energy the band remains known for. Soaring keys and electronic textures merge with an unforgettable refrain that instantly moves. Meanwhile, the lyrics tell a relatable story of insecurity that’s strangely infectious. The track began impacting Alternative Radio this week, and its music video will premiere on VEVO shortly.
Recently, literary tastemaker Los Angeles Review of Books penned an in-depth and insightful feature on the The Airborne Toxic Event’s past, present, and future—entitled “The Sob in the Spine”. It’s not only a shining endorsement, but it paints the picture of frontman Mikel Jollett as a literary figure.
LA Review of Books Writer Cornel Bonca claims, “Lots of rock bands create more or less credible simulacra of meaningful sincerity, but dig deeper and most of the music collapses into lyrical obscurity, cooled-out posing, twee soft-headedness, ironic evasion, or outright bullshitting. The strength of Jollett’s music is that he doesn’t bullshit onstage and on the page, there’s no ironic detachment; his intelligence is focused, heated, and up-front sincere—the models he evokes often are John Lennon and Springsteen, the man means it.”
The piece also praised “Wrong” adding, “The emotional core of the song is pure unreconstructed Airborne Toxic Event. It’s all there in Jollett’s vocal, which starts with a delicate vulnerable falsetto in the verses and transitions to a powerfully ragged roar on the choruses.”
Right now, The Airborne Toxic Event is in the midst of a highly successful North American tour. This current jaunt commenced with three sold out nights at The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA and will conclude in Denver, CO with two sold out shows at the Ogden Theatre November 6-7.
At the New York City show, Diffuser lauded the new material writing, “They are gorgeous and the best of what Airborne are—soulful and introspective with hooks that stay with you,” and mentioning they “could become staples at future shows.” While in New Orleans, The Times-Picayune said the band “rocked the southeast corner of the French Quarter.” Yahoo Music! also recently featured the band in a comprehensive profile and preview of the new album.
The band stands out as 21st century rock ‘n’ roll torchbearers. Their 2008 self-titled debut yielded the ubiquitous gold-selling single “Sometime Around Midnight”, while its follow-ups All At Once [2010], and Such Hot Blood [2013] garnered wide spread critical acclaim. iTunes named “Sometime Around Midnight” the “#1 Alternative Song of the Year”, and it spent a staggering eight weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart. HBO utilized it on their high-profile Network Season Promo. The group has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman four times, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno four times, and on Jimmy Kimmel Live! three times. Moreover, they’ve taken the stage at festivals including Coachella and Lollapalooza and sold over 50,000 tickets in 2013 alone.
Stay tuned for more news about Dope Machines and The Airborne Toxic Event.
