Daily Dose: Sa’ra Charismata – Gold Digga

    1798497_643478802367001_444553140_n

Sometimes a new voice comes along with a positively critical message. And when that message resonates with an audience that has unconsciously been craving it for long, the reach is inevitably wider than mainstream media is ready to accept.

Sa’ra Charismata is without a doubt such a voice. Her debut single “Gold Digga”, a poignant attack on the world order today, merges a sultry delivery with a hard hitting political message as she personally challenges a dangerous status quo, not only in the world of music, but across most spectra of society.

Sa’ra explains, “We have lost touch of who we are at our spiritual core and suffer as we continue to define others and ourselves by material possessions and status, a disease firmly embedded into our social structures.”

Sa’ra Charismata, a musical muse born to Eritrean parents, raised in Stockholm, Sweden and most recently residing in New York City, writes and co-produces all of her own material. In her process, she seems driven by forces described by herself as beyond her own. Some would call energies of this nature otherworldly. Sa’ra possesses that uncanny knack for drawing in a listener with triumphantly beautiful melodies and trippy beats whilst cleverly addressing the critical questions of our generation.

Welcome to explore the world as seen through the eyes of Sa’ra Charismata.

First Listen: The Brigantes – Racket

    882109_539097702866393_3989043320075785869_o

Hailing from Halifax, West Yorkshire, The Brigantes are making waves with a rare groove that has come from a mixture of Reggee and Ska, which developed following an upbringing influenced by the various member’s parents love for those catchy genres. Add in a bit of Hip-Hop along with a Punk attitude, and it all makes for a heady brew that makes The Brigantes stand out from the usual Indie sound that is prevalent at the moment.

It is so refreshing to hear Ebonnie, 20 (Vocals, Guitar), Harrison, 19 (Vocals), Jordan, 18 (Bass) and Drew, 18 (Percussion), making a sound that makes you want to move your feet. Some locals have christened it ‘Halifax dance hall’.

Following a series of successful shows, including support slots for Dirty Revolution and The Booze and Blues Festival, The Brigantes have teamed up with the Arch-Way Project to record a performance video for the wonderfully infectious track Racket.

Daily Dose: Brittany Tiera – Rewind

    Brittany-Tiera_2

Born in Newport News, Virginia, Brittany Tiera is the youngest of five girls. Her singing talent was discovered when she was just three years old. Following her dynamic performances in multiple local talent shows, her mother drove her nine-year-old daughter three hours to the Washington, D.C-based auditions for “Star Search,” the largest talent show on national television at the time. Brittany stunned the judges with her powerful voice, beating out 75,000 contestants to appear on the show. Even though the contest was not a success, Tiera felt that her time to shine would come later in life.

In 2008, Brittany appeared on BET’S “106 & Park,” winning the Wild–Out Wednesday female R&B competition. She later returned to New York to perform at Blaze the Stage and the “106 & Park” Championship, where she placed 2nd after losing by less than 1% of the votes.

Up to date Tiera is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches to her forthcoming album. The stars are aligning for Newport News’s daughter, and she will not disappoint. This ten year vetern’s “Love University” will surely be an attention grabber. “Love University” is now available for download on Datpiff, AudioMack, and Soundcloud.

    First Listen: Witchingseason – Spiders

    1385633_550953254977632_2013265875_n

Witchingseason are a talented, energetic rock trio who are releasing their EP on November 10th. Receiving rave reviews nationwide, Phoenix FM host, Scott Sparx, commented that he was “blown away by their music!… and couldn’t wait to share them”.

Their first release, ‘Spiders’, showcases the bands typical rock style with a sound not for the faint hearted. Drenched in heavy guitar riffs and riotous drums, the coarse, melodic vocals are layered over the top to create a track that any rock fan can chant along to.

Drawing influences from rock royalty, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stoneage and Dinosaur Jr – to name but a few – Witchingseason have garnered considerable experience and enthusiasm for rock from watching these artists’ successes and innovations. Witchingseason also got to take steps in their favourite bands shoes when they played at the 100 Club in Oxford Street, London. They have also supported Japanese Fighting Fish and Droppers Neck.

A personal highlight for the band was meeting Alain Johannes (Them Crooked Vultures, Queens of the Stoneage, Chris Cornell) before one of his shows, and he was nice enough to give them advice and ended up talking to them for hours – even buying them a few beers!

The pursuit of a music career was not always a definite one as guitarist Tom Reynolds, at the age of 6, was told he would never be able to play an instrument after being diagnosed with dyslexia. Determined to overcome this, he got his first guitar in his early teens but didn’t take it seriously until he was 15. With encouragement from others, he began to learn a few punk and blues tracks and joined a Pearl Jam cover band playing in pubs and clubs all over London and Kent. A chance encounter at Tom’s 21st birthday party gave him the encouragement to start writing his own material and Witchingseason was born.

The bands perseverance has certainly paid off as we eagerly await the new EP due for release November 10th.

Estrella Begin String Of Stellar Releases With New Single

Based in Aberdeen and with classic 70s/80s rock influences such as Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Van Halen, AC/DC and Bon Jovi, Estrella are an energetic rock four piece who are planning a busy 2014/2015. Touring Europe later in the year with ex-Guns N Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke, the band are gearing up to hitting the road in October with a single release that throws back to their debut album – initially released in 2012.

With a second album due in May 2015 and singles from it on the way later this year and early next, Estrella aim to set the scene with ‘Whatever It Is’ – an impactful, guitar laden screamer of a track about fulfilling what you set out to achieve, born out of the band’s desire to do nothing else but make music their career.

You can hear the track here which is released October 13th:

The band – a trio of brothers Paul Gunn (Frontman), Luke Gunn (Lead Guitarist) and Nathan Gunn (Bass) plus Leo McPherson (Drummer) – already have a storied career in music behind them having toured Europe with American rocker and UK chart topper Robin Beck. And it’s a mark of their growing stature that they have been selected to tour with Gilby Clarke this November.

It’s all thanks to a reputation for putting on an excellent live show, a buzzing, crackling gig that plays on a fictional ‘sibling rivalry’ between the three brothers and creates a tension which is only released by the heaviness of the music.

They combine this bristling live show with an ultra-professional approach to capturing that energy in their studio recordings, working with some top industry names in order to realise their ambitions. Their debut album ‘Come Out to Play’ was co-written and produced by John T Sinclair (ex-keyboard player for Uriah Heep, The Cult and the Ozzy Osbourne band). It was engineered by Ashley Howe (Queen, Led Zeppelin) and mastered by Grammy award winning Richard Dodds (Uriah Heep, FreddieMercury, Green Day).

Their new album – due May 2015 – will be overseen by producer Nick Brine (The Darkness, Bruce Springsteen, Thunder, Oasis) and will also see pre-production and mastering duties taken up by Pete Shoulder (The Union), Luke Morley (Thunder, The Union) and Pete Mayer (Rolling Stones, U2, Killers, Jack White, Katy Perry, The Killers). High calibre names who are extremely picky about who they work with.

It’s an approach which has won Estrella many fans, including Classic Rock Magazine and XFM presenters including Tom Russell and noted music tastemaker Jim Gellatly. And with the European tour, three singles and an album due by May next year, you’ll be hearing plenty more of them.

    ABOUT IN THE WHALE:
IN THE WHALE is a high energy, two-piece rock band hailing from Denver, CO. Nate Valdez (vocals and guitar) and Eric Riley (drums and backing vocals) have been making no nonsense, balls-to-the-wall rock songs since they formed the band from the ashes of a couple bands you’ve never heard of at some point in 2011. Known for their live performance and constantly being asked, “How do two dudes make so much noise?”, the band have played across the US with everyone from Slash, Local H and a lot of bands who aren’t as cool to name drop.

Daily Dose: The Violets – Perfect 10

    10407374_899899750036130_6025298690805422934_n

The Violets are a 4 piece alternative/indie rock band from North Yorkshire, England aged between 14 and 16 years of age. They recently released their second EP ‘He Goes Like This’ that is available for download on soundcloud. The Boys songs have been described as ‘a cross between Bombay bicycle club and Arctic Monkeys with vocals similar to Morrisey and Riffs with a distinguished Santana Feel’.

    The Violets are:
    Feargal Gunn-Vocals/Rhythm Guitar
    Louis Sadler-Lead Guitar
    Ben Neesom-Bass Guitar
    Niall Summerton-Drums

The singer Feargal is aged just 14 years old, with the rest of the band being 16. They have been playing in their hometown as much as possible and hope to break into newer territory. The lads practise religiously in the singers loft as much as they can and are eager for a wider audience to hear what they’re about. The young age only gives more energy to live performances and can be misguided by the maturity of Feargal’s lyrics and the thought put in to every one of their compositions.

Have a Work Dress for the Complete Week

Putting together a work wardrobe can be daunting, but we are here to help you with a couple quick fixes.

Buy key pieces that have longevity and add a touch of trend or personal style with some interchangeable must- haves. Think of your wardrobe as something you need to build.

By building a foundation for your work wardrobe you are taking the guess work out of getting ready for work in the morning.

With Peter Nygard your work week has never been so easy and stylish:

    • Monday – Add movement to your Monday with a business skirt that isn’t pencil shaped
    • Tuesday – Follow your animal instict with this zebra print pattern
    • Wednesday – Power through your day in a structured suit
    • Thursday – Trade in structure for a playful polka dot
    • Friday – Celebrate the end of the work week with a pop of color

    About Peter:
Peter Nygård’s success story began when he gathered his life savings and borrowed $8,000 capital to purchase 20% of a women’s garment manufacturer with $800,000 in annual sales, which within a few years he owned outright – renaming it ‘NYGÅRD’ & turning it around from near bankruptcy into the bustling dynasty that it is today! The speed with which Nygård claimed his #1 position in the industry is attributed to the uniqueness of his business decisions and his work ethic that includes 14-16 hour days/seven days a week. But then again, as Nygård says, “The only time you are working is when you wish you were doing something else”.

    First Listen: Sumia – Dive

    Sumia

Picture sitting alone on the pier of a tranquil lake: The vista of fading sun behind trees with nature’s song of serenity whispering to you. Equanimity courses through you, but you cannot quite fall into her beautiful embrace.

Sumia’s debut full-length album ‘Until we shine again’ embodies the aforementioned image: One of contentment and inner peace, in unison with scars from the past and their invasive shackles.

Sumia have produced a flawlessly uplifting album: with tones of fulfillment and love, walking the ever so thin line, in-between the perpetual battle against the torments of our past and letting go. All of this is played out to a backdrop of haunting, groovy, alternative rock.

The band comes from jyväskylä in central Finland. Upon hearing the album it will not surprise the listener that the members are versed musicians: with experience performing in varying genres from melodic hardcore, punk, electronic music and Hip-Hop. This Titanic debut draws from their past experiences and has produced a trendy, energetic result. It has produced Sumia.

Loaded Sista Want ‘No Drama’ With Debut Album

A London based duo of female vocalists Keisha Rodney & Salli Alexander, Loaded Sista are a pop act founded 2009. Originally named Frayja after the Norse Goddess who calls upon us women to stand up and love ourselves, the name was changed to Loaded Sista in 2011 when a name chance and re-branding helped take the pair to the next level.

Writing powerful, autobiographical songs and hoping to empower female listeners everywhere, the duo are turning plenty of heads, including sound engineer Roy Merchant (Adele, Example) who has worked with them on their material.

During the course of building their reputation, the Loaded Sista girls have been working to keep a high profile. They have already performed on ITV, as part of a This Morning Christmas Review ‘with the Silver Fox and Holly Willabooby’….and also performed at the Edmonton Olympic Ceremony as the torch moved through. They also played to over 5,000 people at Worcester’s Help for Heroes concert, as well as playing numerous carnivals inside and outside the capital.

Most recently, in the lead up to this album release, Loaded Sista signed up to help launch ‘Free The Music Book’, a new crowd funding site designed exclusively to help musicians release a single album. The debut Loaded Sista album ‘No Drama’ will be available within the month in association with the site, and the duo are hoping that the partnership can help raise awareness of both their music and the site.

Singer/Songwriter Lauren Rich Set For EP & Single

Born in London and living in Hertfordshire, Lauren Rich is a singer-songwriter who certainly knows how to weave her distinctive voice around an effective acoustic chord pattern. With a taste for harmony and autobiographical lyrics that mean her songs border on country, Lauren is an artist with a bright future.

The next step in her musical career will see Lauren run a simultaneous release, with single ‘The Drink Talking’ taken from EP ‘The Same Sky’. Recorded with engineer Alan Emptage (Skunk Anansie, Arcade Fire, London Grammar, Adam Ant, Boy George) at OneLouder Studios, the single was written with a hangover when Lauren realised she sent a drunken text to a guy the night before:

Impressively, the full EP was recorded around spells in hospital where Lauren was recently diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. However, she made it a point of pride to continue with her work, not wanting to let people down seeing as the EP was paid for by her fans, who supported her through a successful crowd funding campaign.

It’s little wonder that she is turning so many heads. Having performed at prestigious London venues such as Proud in Camden and The Water Rats in Kings Cross, not to mention playing live during radio interviews with BBC London and BBC Three Counties, her knack for catchy, acoustic melodies is clearly catching on.

In the meantime, ‘The Same Sky’ EP and ‘The Drink Talking’ single are both released 29th September.

Daily Dose: The Colored Parade – When The World’s Against Me

    10268441_736605349703647_8765472765468279976_n

The Colored Parade is the musical brainchild of Nashville, TN-based songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist Andrew Adkins. Mixing tapestries of sounds, atmospheric textures with lush vocal ambience and a wide array of musical styles, flavors and elements all add up to create this fresh, new sound and vision called The Colored Parade. “I basically locked myself up in my studio with a few guitars, synths, keys, an assortment of percussion, an 808, a banjo, a sampler and a mandolin and this is what happened!” says Adkins. “I wanted to make an album with lots of shades, emotions, colors and moods constantly moving and shifting. That is where the name ‘Colored Parade’ came from.”

The songs from The Colored Parade’s debut release, “…And The Walls Of The City Will Shake” blends and uniquely combines rootsy Americana with currents of electronic-synth, obscure samples, wailing undertones of pedal steel guitar, a barrage of horns with Brian Wilson-esque stacks of vocal harmonies. Ladies and gentlemen, The Colored Parade has arrived. Listen up and take notice.

1st Trailer from Upcoming Time Machine Documentary

Marshall Barnes, the internationally noted research and development engineer in advanced concept science and technology, is finally pulling the trigger on the release of trailers from his upcoming documentary, The Dawning of the Age of Time Machines. The film will document the story of how he not only became interested and pursued research into time travel, but how he became so advanced in his thinking to begin with. He has always been considered ahead of his time, throughout his entire adult life, a fact that seems to be confirmed even by the computer tabulating results over at the web site run by Strategy&.

The CEO Time Machine is a web site where you take a survey on your views in regards to business, which are then tabulated with the result being a determination of what time era you should be in as a CEO. Marshall took the test and the results were he would be best suited for the year 2040. You can see them yourself at http://ceotimemachine.strategy-business.com/#/MarshallBarnes .

The film will not only include a flashback, to Marshall’s unique career and history, but how it was that he learned to understand complex concepts beyond the level of the experts which enabled him to invent the technology, to make warp drive and his time machine, possible. He is currently the most successful challenger to Stephen Hawking in the world. And after Ronald Mallett, whom he knows, turned down his offer to work on his Verdrehung Fan™ project with him, thus initiating a competition to see who would build a time machine first, Marshall proceeded to build his own design and test it. In just 19 months after their last conversation, Marshall had beaten Mallett in that race, all but destroying any possibilities of Mallett ever building a machine. Mallett’s ideas were never widely accepted in the physics community to begin with, with published objections from J.R. Gott of Princeton and physicists Ken Olum and Allen Everett as well. Now that Marshall has proved that his approach has merit, the possibility of Mallett getting funding from anywhere is nil, as he requires $300,000 to just see if his device will meet the basic requirements, requirements that Marshall has blown past already. No one backs a loser after the race is over.

The new trailer features Marshall’s results from the CEO Time Machine, scenes of him speaking at the 100 Year Starship Symposium and at a WakeUp StartUp event as well as the All-Con sci-fi convention in Addison, Texas where he encountered a working R2D2 replica near the small re-creation of the Stargate of Stargate SG-1. Most interesting is that there are glimpses of the Verdrehung Fan™ in action, giving off bursts of what is appearing to be UV light and then suddenly glowing white, all only detected by the camera. This, of course, is just a tease for what will actually be in the film – a demonstration of infrared and radio frequency signals disappearing into the device over time, the proof, based on Mallett’s premise of how a device could be a time machine on a particle level, and that Mallett has been defeated. Expert commentary from scientists and radio/TV broadcast engineers will explain the significance of the results, which point towards the future possibility of creating traversable wormholes anywhere in space and time with increased power and marrying the device to a control system that Marshall has been working on since 2005.

The media reaction will be interesting, because heretofore the media has been giving overwhelming attention to Mallett, who has done nothing new since 2008. Confronted with the reality that their media darling has been rendered totally and completely inconsequential, the reaction of the press will be one to watch as their own credibility will be drawn into sharp question.

After all, why all the coverage of a guy who says he wants to build a time machine instead of on the guy who’s actually done it? In the same vein, although a release date hasn’t been set, there is another time machine documentary being promoted right now, How To Build A Time Machine by director Jay Cheel. Unlike The Dawning of the Age of Time Machines, Cheel’s movie focuses on two men, of whom Mallett is one. The first is an artist, Rob Noisi, who has been obsessed with building a perfect replica of the time machine from the movie of the same name, based on H.G. Well’s book of the same name. Mallett, of course, will be retelling the same story that he’s been telling over, and over and over again, ad nausem, for more than a decade now, about wanting to build a time machine to go back in time and save his father from a heart attack.

“Although the movies might not be out at the same time at all,” Marshall says, “the trailers are. It will be interesting to see how the public reacts to the comparison – two guys talking about the fantasy of time machines vs the man that’s done it, expanding it, speaking at science conferences on it and writing about the science of it and reporting to Congress on it…”

Marshall won’t predict what will happen next, preferring to wait and see for himself.

“So it will test the public to see if they just want to bask in the fantasy of ‘what if’ and ‘wouldn’t it be great’ or they’re ready to deal with the reality that it’s starting to happen right now, and step into the real 21st century…”

Lessons That Rock To Perform Internet Gigs With Students

Lessons That Rock music instructors in August of 2014, will begin performing live-streaming performances over the internet actual audiences around the globe. The internet performances are designed to help students learn the ropes of basic gigging, and get over stage fright before they hit the real stage. Students who take that extra step of performing first in front of a live audience that they cannot see, are sure to do better overall at a larger venue where people actually show up. The idea behind internet performances is it allows students and young performers to grow and push themselves at a level they are comfortable with.

The live-streaming gigs are free to join as a viewer, and will available through Secondlife, an online gaming platform, as well as Youtube, and Google Hangouts. In some of the venues, online tipping is allowed, thus giving students something to work for; the better you perform, and the more well-liked you are, the more money you can earn from your music. There is already a large group of internet-savvy online performers, and online audience members across the globe.

The number one factor in becoming a better musician is practice, and behind every practice session is motivation. What better way to motivate young students to practice their instruments, than to offer them the chance to perform live, and to earn money while doing that? Lessons That Rock (http://www.lessonsthatrock.com) already currently has an established gig routine in Southern California, where dozens of students have learned to play in front of live audiences. This new electronic venue will simply open up doors to students who are more timid, or find themselves less willing to perform in public until they have first worked out all the bugs in the system.

Nashville Couple Tours The World, Rocking for Recovery

Professional musicians (and married couple) Rob & Deb Solberg have found an unusual niche market for their music. Or maybe it found them.

Rob & Deb cut their teeth performing on stage and in the recording studio for some notable artists including Michael W. Smith, Matthew West, Billy Ray Cyrus, Rebecca St. James, John Elefante (Kansas), The Nashville Praise Symphony, David Crowder and Ginny Owens. And together they make up two-thirds of the John Schlitt Trio, touring internationally with the 4-time Grammy winning Christian rock singer.

But its their own music that has recently started bringing them some real attention. Their songs, performed under the band name Dust & Daisies, are raw and honest, rising out of a past filled with brokenness, abuse, death and loss. “But thanks to the love, grace and healing power of Jesus, the story doesn’t end there!” explains guitarist Rob Solberg.

For over 4 years Rob & Deb have been leading worship for Celebrate Recovery, a Christ-centered 12-step program founded at Saddleback Church. As a result of their experience in this ministry they began their own recovery journeys, which in turn has led to something pretty unique.

As musicians we naturally started writing about what we were experiencing personally,” explains Rob. “And from that came these super real and honest songs. Not just lyrically, but the music itself has this sense of rawness and vulnerability. So much so that we were a little nervous to share it in a church setting at first, since its pretty different from your typical Christian music sound.

The response was as surprising as it was positive. Especially since lead singer Deb shares a lot about her own dark past during these Dust & Daisies concerts. “I am still amazed how many people come up to me after a church concert and just pour out their own stories,” says Deb. “Its such a huge connection. There is so much unspoken pain and hurt, even within the body of Christ. We’re all human, and so many of us don’t know where to go or how to begin addressing what we’re dealing with. Music has a way of breaking through the walls we all put up and leading us toward God and healing.

Despite their growing notoriety in Christian music circles, Rob & Deb have decided to eschew the typical music industry approach to success. Instead they have quietly been performing at church recovery meetings, homeless shelters and prisons. And even now, as they announce plans for a world tour that will begin in November in Norway, their focus is on helping people find recovery.

World Tour is maybe a little too grand a term for it.” laughs Rob. “Really what we’re doing is partnering with churches all over the US and overseas to use our music and our concerts as a tool. It’s a way for those churches to reach out to their own church body – and the community around them – and share the hope & healing that is found in Christ.

Deb adds, “There’s not a single church in the world that doesn’t contain people who are hurting and struggling with real issues. Not just alcohol or drugs, but also issues like fear, abandonment, sexual impurity, anger, eating disorders, and depression. The recovery process is for anyone struggling with any issue that keeps them in emotional bondage!

Dust & Daisies Hope & Healing tour officially starts November 29, 2014 in Hauge i Delane, Norway. The US leg begins in January 2015, where the tour will continue through the end of the year. You can find more information online at www.dustanddaisies.com.
