Pop Star Tanay Jackson Hopes Fans Will Get “Addicted”

The Jackson’s have a new star on rise! Pop newcomer Tanay Jackson recently released her latest single “Addicted”; produced by up and coming producer Ryan Lawford. Currently available on I-Tunes and Amazon Music, “Addicted” is an up-tempo/pop dance record with an infectious hip-hop fueled baseline. Quickly becoming a viral hit, “Addicted” has garnered Tanay’s her strongest musical impact to date, further solidifying her as an “artist to watch” in 2014 and 2015.

As a member of the next generation of the great Jackson family, Tanay Jackson is no stranger to the music business. Daughter of pop legend Tito Jackson of the legendary Jackson 5 and niece to late great Michael Jackson; Tanay isn’t depending on her musical pedigree for success, just her ability, talent, hard work and God as she firmly states are her keys to success. In 2013 Tanay Jackson released “Naughty Girls Needs Love”. That single proved to be a marginal overseas hit and led to a promo tour for Ms. Jackson. With Addicted, Tanay plans to build on that early success and reach the heights of her full potential.

“Being a Jackson is a gift and a curse. I have name recognition but it comes with baggage. I understand that I will be compared to my family but it must be understood that I am my own person and want to express my vision to the world uninhabited”

    – Tanay Jackson

Look for Tanay Jackson to close out the year strong. Tanay will be making several media stops as well as performances. Look for Addicted to make a major impact on radio in the third quarter.

Two State Nation Release “10 Foot Golden”

I hope you like listening to music without wearing socks, because Two State Nation will blow your socks off. It’s a horrible pun, but I couldn’t help myself. The title track of “10 Foot Golden” is a bit more “heavy” than I expected, and has a bit of a punk element to it as well. A versatile mix of styling that I found myself liking quite a bit. I was expecting the rest of the album to have the same feel, but I was quite surprised by how diverse the music was. “Westboro Blues” had a bit of a latin flare to it, something I would expect from a Carlos Santana collaboration. Then you have some very bluesy tracks like “Love Come Evil” and “I Lied”. If you’re looking for diversity, this is a great album, and did I mention that the music is actually very good? This album is one of the top 5 that I’ve downloaded this year, and I go through a lot of music. “Scream in Whispers” has a riff that you will have to seek a doctors advise to have it removed from your brain. I have been singing this song for a week now. This is your traditional power rock jam that just makes you want to jump!

Lead Singer, Shellina Ryals, said that the band chose to do analog recordings because they “love the energy of a live show, and didn’t want the album to miss out on that feeling of intensity.”

If you’re interested in checking this music out, you can see them on iTunes at bit.ly/1u4DMKS or you can buy them at Two State Nation’s Official Site at twostatenation.com

They will be announcing their Fall tour dates in the next few weeks, so keep an eye on that website if you want to catch them live. Expected cities include Southeastern locations (Atlanta, Birmingham, New Orleans, Savannah, Nashville, and more).

First Listen: The Agency… Present Their New Album ‘Of Ghosts’

    381655_316187398415408_2004398824_n

The Agency… began in 2012, as a large musical collective based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Now established as a smaller unit, they feature Steve Beyer (guitar), Garry Cosgrove (drums), Steven K Driver (singer/songwriter/guitar), Andy Ludbrook (bass) and Kerry Ramsay (vocals), however they still have a number of friends that appear from time to time who have been – and continue to be – instrumental in developing the band’s sound. Their debut album, ‘For the Brave and Troubled’ (Dec 2012), featured Jason Blaney on additional drums, string samples from DJ Fonzarelli and the talents of Gemma Thompson on cello. Pianist Scott Wall (My Exit Music) appears on the band’s forthcoming album, ‘Of Ghosts’, as does Fraser Smith (Little Man Tate/Shed Seven). Jim Ward also plays guitar on several tracks.

This summer will see The Agency… take their Gothicana sound on the road to support the release of their second album, ‘Of Ghosts’, which features the singles ‘She/The Temple’ (Crack Magazine Single of the Month, April 2013), ‘Sad Parallel’, and ‘Child So Careless’.

The story goes that Andy Ludbrook released the various members of the Agency… (and their associates) from the jailhouse in Gunga Chunga, a little known border town. Andy had been mayor of Gunga Chunga for three long months when the townsfolk turned on him, at last recognising his depraved villainy. Knowing that unless he did something desperate and sinister his days would be numbered, he turned loose what he thought were Gunga Chunga’s worst criminals. He and his posse lost the fight for the town and the band had to take to the road. Here they discovered that the only way they could make money and feed themselves was through playing their songs of betrayal, wrongdoing and even monsters in any bars, clubs or cafes that would take them. There are lighter moments in their sets but these are cynically calculated to endear audiences to them despite their darker natures.

Listeners describe the band’s sound as rich and multi-textured. With influences including Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, The Felice Brothers, Mark Lanegan, the National, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, William Shatner, The Velvet Underground and The Wizard of Oz, there is a little bit of something for all who choose to be seated at The Agency….’s table.

    Release Date: 29th September 2014
    Format: Digital Download and CD
    Label: Solarbear Records

    Lead single: She/The Temple

“‘Of Ghosts’ is a genuine long-play record that sits alongside Leonard Cohen’s early work or mid-period Nick Cave, as an album to be taken seriously.
    Alan Harrison, NoDepression.com

An English Velvet Underground for the 21 Century.
Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6 Music.

The Agency… are a Newcastle based band, trading, nominally in folk/rock, but such a label is a tad reductive in this case. They have the kind of listen-to-me intensity that Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds manage to conjure up…and the instrumentation is exemplary throughout. Incredibly rich, and with plenty of sweet melodies to boot, this is like setting down with your favourite bar of quality dark chocolate.Crack Magazine

Prehab Adds Power Players for Production Of New Music Release

Prehab has added Phillip Rhodes on drums and chosen Owen Morris to produce the bands follow up to “I Have Not Been Completely Honest” this fall at Sonic Ranch Studios in Texas. “ This is a great year for Prehab, to be able to play with a drummer like Phil and have someone of Owen’s caliber agree to help us make this next record is awesome” said Bass player Chris Cantu. The band looks to release the record in the beginning of 2015.

Phillip Rhodes was a founding member of the Gin Blossoms. An American rock band formed in 1987 in Tempe, Arizona. They first came to notice with the song “Hey Jealousy” from their first major label album, New Miserable Experience (1992), but this achievement was coupled with the firing and eventual suicide of the song’s author and band co-founder Doug Hopkins, prompting the title of their follow-up album, Congratulations I’m Sorry (1996). After a series of charting singles, the band broke up in 1997

Owen Morris started working in the music industry as a sound engineer at Spaceward Studio in Cambridge, England when he was 16. He continued as an engineer until 1994, when he mixed and mastered Oasis’s debut album Definitely Maybe. He continued working with Oasis for their subsequent two albums (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) and Be Here Now (1997). Morris appears on the cover of (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? holding the album’s master tape.

He went on to produce The Verve  album A Northern Soul, Pusherman’s  “Floored” (1996), Ash’s 1977 (1996) and the debut UK album, For God’s Sake for Thai rock star Sek Loso. In 2000 he recorded and produced Ash’s album Free All Angels. He produced The Paddingtons debut album “First Comes First ,” which was released in October 2005 on Poptones Records . In the early summer of 2006 he produced Hats Off to the Buskers , the debut album of Dundee band The View , released 22 January 2007 through Columbia Records 1965 Records label and reaching number 1 in the UK Albums Chart. Morris also produced the band’s second album.

In 2013, Owen re-mastered the first three Oasis albums with Ian Cooper for the 20th anniversary re-issues.

Prehab began life in the 1990’s playing as the Bedspins along Tempe Arizona’s Mill Ave and touring the Southwest. For almost five years between 1993 and 1998, the band logged more than 500 live shows preforming energizing sets of mostly original songs. The Bedspins became a songwriting machine working under producer Andy Barrett of Gin Blossoms and Stevie Nicks fame. They almost never played the same set twice as they were always adding new songs, sometimes on a per-show basis. In the late 90’s the group disbanded and had very little contact for almost a decade.

In 2007 dramatic events pulled the former band-mates back together. After some reminiscing and several rounds of drinks a plan was hatched. The band would get back in the rehearsal room to assemble songs with the goal of landing a publishing deal. This initial plan ignited the recording of One Is Too Many (A Thousand Is Never Enough) Released by Aahshaw Records ( 2009 ) The record was well-received and reviewed locally landing the band live shows and drawing enthusiastic crowds.

Soon the band was back rehearsing and writing new material. In the summer of 2012 the band hopped a plane to Memphis to record at Ardent Studios with John Hampton (White Stripes, The Replacements, Gin Blossoms) After additional recording and mixing Adam Ayan ( Nirvana, Foo Fighters, NIN, Keith Urban) mastered the record at Gateway sound. The result of everyone’s collective efforts is the new Aahshaw Records EP “I Haven’t Been Completely Honest” (2013)

Shortly after completing the EP long time drummer Jeff Bourne left the group to explore other opportunities. After several weeks of auditions the band welcomed Phillip Rhodes (Gin Blossoms) to the fold. Phil brings years of experience as a platinum selling artist, performer, and songwriter to band as well as a sense of humor that is a perfect fit.

The first single “Not Coming Home” is currently receiving regular airplay locally after being heavily requested then added to 93.9 KWSS in August 2013. “Not Coming Home” as well as “Liar Liar” and “False Horizon” are currently in rotation on over 68 college radio stations such as WMCX,KMNR,WONY,KQAL,WUMF,WVYC etc. The bands official video for “Not Coming Home” was released in fall and now has over 6000 views. Prehab’s music has also been featured on PlayboyMexico.com, thebabespot.com, Almost Famous Film Festival and Dailymotion.com where the song “Freaky” has over 218,000 views. The band’s music was most recently used in fashion line Diego Milano’s winter 2013 ad campaign. More singles, videos and live dates will follow for all of 2014 /15.

    Naylor’s Notes: Collin “Bine” Horton

Collin “Bine” Horton was born in Peru, Indiana April 27th, 1995. Throughout his life he has always struggled. While moving to 5 different schools he bounced between 4 different states. Bine was quite the loner. He has experienced every struggle life has to offer, with the exception of drug use. Growing up, at times he went without a father figure, with a mother who was constantly sick from a permanent illness. Bine always sought a way to fit in, but always stood out. Experiencing his share of bullying, verbal/physical abuse, and loneliness, he began searching for a way to express his feelings.

Bine was brought up in an almost entirely racist environment. At first being blinded by ignorance he hated hip hop and rap. At 14, Bine had begun to experience racism first hand after moving to Mississippi. Being white in a predominantly black environment, Bine was forced to understand racism and discrimination. Trying to fit in Bine began to rap, and after a year and a half he had moved again. Unfortunately the knowledge and experiences had followed him.

At age 15 Bine moved to Tennessee, and for a few months lived with his uncle. Because of his lack of a father figure, and sharing the same experiences, they quickly became close. The day after Christmas that year his uncle had died by his own hand. Shortly after that Bine had to move again, this time to Elwood, Indiana. Starting off as a freshman at a new school made it particularly hard to fit in, with no sinourity and no current friends Bine had decided to impress with his music. After a while he began to fit in, he had joined sports (wrestling, football) and continued to pursue his music. But after being one of the “popular” people in his school. He began to watch and observe the bullying, and fear of other kids who were being tormented by the “jocks”. Having been them once, he couldn’t stand for something, which stood for what he hated; he had left sports and found new friends.

At 16 Bine had met his first love, he had finally felt like he wasn’t alone. She had gone off to college which caused them to drift a-part. Fortunately they stayed the closest of friends. Shortly after Bine had turned 17 she also had died by her own hand (Explained in the song “Angels and Demons”). Bine didn’t say a word for 3 days, to anyone.

At 18 Bine, began to focus on his music harder than ever and released his first mixtape “Politics, Pride and Poetry”. At 19 Bine had experienced being homeless, and broke. His fiancé at the time who was pregnant inspired the song, “Dad’s Promise.” She ended up miscarrying. That has still not stopped him from pursuing music; currently working on his first album and second mixtape, Bine’s goal is to show he isn’t giving up and too show the outcast and troubled youth that they too, can make it through anything.

Ripe Red Apple Releases New LP ‘Ripe Red Apple’

The blues group called Ripe Red Apple has released their new LP record, “Ripe Red Apple.” The self-titled album comprises 10 original tracks for an approximate total listening time of half an hour. It has been proudly released independent of support from the corporate music industry. Soulful, sonorous, groovy and heartfelt, “Ripe Red Apple” by Ripe Red Apple is easily one of the most ensnaring original blues records to be published in recent memory.

Ripe Red Apple cite as main artistic influences such legends as Charlie Patton, Billie Holiday, Big Mama Thornton, and Lead Belly, as well as rock groups like Velvet Underground, Neil Young, the Band and PJ Harvey. Their sound is gilded with nuances of contemporary folk and classic rock, yet with a bulletproof loyalty to genuine blues music. This faithfulness to the musical traditions of the American South is the prevailing overtone of “Ripe Red Apple,” making it a natural counterpart to records by foundational artists like Son House, Blind Lemon Jefferson, and Robert Johnson. Fans of blues music from the Mississippi Delta region are especially likely to appreciate Ripe Red Apple’s new LP.

Speaking of the themes of their new record, Ripe Red Apple writes, “When Eve ate the apple in the Garden of Eden, she was doing something beautiful. With her knowledge and possibilities no longer limited, she gave us the passionate will we have today and the spectrum of emotions that make life worth living. Our music is about the struggles that come from this freedom.”

At the heart of Ripe Red Apple are singer Gaia Lyle and lead guitarist Gonzalo Villa. The duo began more than five years ago on the streets of Valparaiso, Chile, where the two popular performers teamed up to make a more powerful whole. Having since relocated to Portland, OR in search of “something more,” Ripe Red Apple now boasts the talents of Alexandra Geffel on drums and Chris Benson on second guitar, whose performances are also featured on the full-length album.

“Ripe Red Apple” by Ripe Red Apple is available online worldwide. Get in early. Very early.

Daily Dose: Resistor – First World Problems

    1941420_677556868970240_1920025546_o

“First world problems” are frustrations that afflict only the privileged. As an educated, white, middle-class male from suburban New Jersey, I’ve always led a fairly comfortable life. With my basic needs fulfilled, like many of my peers I wanted something more; so I searched for meaning through art. And thus arose the particular first world problem that inspired these 11 songs: the desire for artistic recognition and fame, seemingly so accessible in the age of social media, and yet as elusive as ever.

Beneath its pop melodies, new wave synths, programmed beats, and stacked vocals, First World Problems asks, in shifting registers of truth, fiction and irony: What is it that makes an artist crave the spotlight? Why am I not satisfied with creating in private? Am I motivated by narcissism? Insecurity? A desire to prove myself to those who once slighted me? And why should anyone care about what I have to say?

Accomplished Actor/Voice Actor Leonard Dozier Back

Google the name Leonard Dozier and you will see an experienced and accomplished actor with extreme range and versatility. His work encompasses stage, (2013 Broadway world nominee, central PA region for Best Actor and set to play opposite the highly-revered Austin Pendleton in a new play called Meet the Earth in NY in September) film (Legends of Oz, Turning Point and the recently completed Phaesporia) and voice overs (NCAA Recyclemania and Ruben Studdard’s Love Is campaign along with documentaries and audiobooks including the forthcoming Stamina by former NBA player Derek Anderson).

Yet, Dozier (unsure of his relation to the former great Motown songwriter) is a potent singer with his own signature sound. This is none more evident than on his new single I Love U available on Itunes, Spotify, Amazon and other online retailers August 12th. Co-written and co-produced with his longtime musical collaborator Michael Downing, the song is far from the candlelight and roses that its title suggests. Instead, it is a reminder that true love is also willing to let go when needed. Save the ballad, minor chords and melancholy vocals. Downing and Dozier craft a pulsating groove with rhythmic instrumentation that is reminiscent of both the 70’s and 90’s in its feel but is very contemporary with Dozier’s smooth but powerful baritone gliding over the song’s infectious hook, particularly as the song peaks in its energy. The song is blissfully uplifting and suggests a certain freedom or liberation through the expression of what is really the emotional center of the song “be willing to let go even when you don’t want to.” The inspiration for the song? “Life,” Dozier says. “More specifically my own relationships particularly my marriage,” he states candidly. “I write conversationally and honestly.”

The timing of the new single is significant as Dozier is now at work on a new project called “Songwriter” an adult contemporary R&b/soul/smooth-jazz tinged project that will introduce three to four new self-penned songs in addition to some covers of some of the great songs ever written in the musical landscape. In addition to Downing, he will work with seasoned professionals in the business including Danny Fordham (who mixed and mastered the new single) and Jamie Myerson, both with a strong past and connection to the industry. “My schedule is crazy,” he states “but I’m passionate about this project and I find that I’m falling in love with music again. My manager told me a few days ago to be mindful that this is a singles-driven business now so that makes it a little more realistic for me.”

Note the term ‘falling in love again.’ Dozier has been active as a singer and songwriter since the late 90’s. Then, a 19 year-old Dozier was strictly focused on music even while studying theater at Fordham University in NY. He jokes that music and women were a vice then, often cutting classes to audition and shop his demo. This demo eventually landed in the hands of a Polygram (now Universal) employee who was the head of A&R at a new independent label to be distributed by Polygram. Consequently, Leonard became the label’s first male artist. “Mike [Michael Downing] and I were sitting in the Mercury Records’ conference room overlooking midtown Manhattan just reveling in the moment listening to our music.” Unfortunately, that moment was short-lived as the Polygram-Universal merger saw the label and many others under its scope left for extinction. “It was a very, very depressing time in my life,” says Dozier. Fast forward to one year later and Dozier signed with an independent label headed by Paul Jerkins, the uncle of superstar producer Rodney Jerkins. Unfortunately, due to creative differences his Nights Like This album was never released. More disappointment. In 2003, Leonard was selected by Tina Shafer’s Songwriter Circle as one of a select group of artists to perform at the Bitter End in NY which has hosted legendary artists such as Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan and Donny Hathaway just to name a few. On the same lineup that night was Grammy-winning songwriter Gordon Chambers who wrote Anita Baker’s “I Apologize” (Anita would be relevant to his career later) After years of shopping for a new deal amidst a rapidly changing musical climate, Dozier’s work with producer/engineer Andrew Manzano (N’Sync, Deborah Cox, Dave Hollister, Michael Jackson) and Grammy-nominated jazz musician George Mesterhazy (Shirley Horn) almost landed him a deal with legendary jazz label Blue Note Records whose VP Tom Evered was enamored with his voice and saw great promise in him. Still, a label like Blue Note can only truly focus on a few artists at a time and “they had just signed Al Green and Anita Baker” remembers Dozier. Without a new label home and with the passing of his musical hero Luther Vandross, Leonard closed the door on his musical journey to return to his first love: acting. Occassional, limited marketed releases would follow–one of which– This Thanksgiving has expanded his audience and given him the benefit of a holiday classic for a holiday with essentially no music catalogue.

The marginal success of this single has, as Dozier puts it, “kept the coffin from closing musically so to speak.” This along with some of his elder statesmen musical heroes such as Will Downing, Brian Mcknight, Phil Perry and a host of others keep him inspired to produce music for a vast audience that the music industry has ignored: ADULTS. “I’m a 35 year old father and if the only new music I’m hearing is played by my kids then I’m a bit concerned—not only as an artist but as a human being.” He adds, “me along with those older than me are being forced to listen to the music of yesteryear. Yet, us adults have to act like we want to be a factor.”

Additionally, Leonard is pushing the platform of adult contemporary music by paying homage to two major musical influences in his life. He is currently writing a stage play about Will Downing’s battle with polymiositis in 2007 and his triumphant return to the industry along with a movie about Luther Vandross, a project he has been working on for the past 9 years. “I am really close to one of Luther’s nieces and was a friend of her mother’s [Luther’s sister] so I want the project to have their blessings while also furthering the legacy of Luther.” I’m also hoping to pitch the stage play to Will sometime in the fall. I have had a couple of wonderful conversations with his manager Kyle Newport in the past.”

For now, the business at hand is the new single and if given the appropriate marketing, adult R&B/soul fans may have a new song to be excited about. “I’m going to be active promoting it to media, radio and coming up with innovative ways to get it to audiences,” says Dozier. “This song stirs my soul and I believe there are many who would get the same feeling.”

Oxford Style Release New Single + Video “Halcyon Days”

Oxford Style was formed by singer / songwriter Paul Nicholson after he could no longer contain his loathing for himself and humanity. Oxford Style combine melodic pop, piano-led cabaret and heavy guitar riffs to create music that is both elegant and aggressive. All of this combined with a pinch of British humour and, of course …..style.

New single “Halcyon Days” is an art rock “I- want-you-back” song but for the most selfish and narcissistic reasons. This is the follow up single to debut “Salo” (30th June 2014) which had solid support from Artrocker, Frank Skinner on Absolute Radio, Amazing Radio, Live 4 Evers “New Tunes Highlight”, Digital Fix’s “Single of the Week”, Rock Britain, SupaJam and Exploding Head Syndrome.

Oxford Styles releases are accompanied by a series of self- produced videos to be released throughout 2014, which have already premiered on Artrocker. New music video “Halcyon Days” is a simple blue tinged dramatic piano ballad and was shot entirely on VHS.

Superheroes With Masks Set Out to Conquer the World of Fashion & Music

Shortly after Revolver California hit it big by presenting their own t-shirt fashion collection these same four Californian shooting stars are also out to rough up the rockmusic business. Let’s have a look at how they underpin their more than deserved iconic status by releasing their debut single.

Yet, it is therefore by right that Revolver California, all-rounders of the American fashion and music business, who are clouded in secrecy, are hailed as the new superstars of the international independent scene.

Within a few months the founders of the same fashion label, Jesse Butch, Clay and Doc achieved what most fashion designers can only dream of: Their t-shirt collection, launched under the motto: “I am wearing Revolver California, therefore I am“, really triggered an incredible hype among fashionistas across the globe with people literally grabbing these unique shirts, easily recognized by the distinctive bullet hole in the middle, out of their hands.

However, who are these guys behind the masks which have already achieved iconic status? Rumor has it that four avant-garde artists from the fashion and music business met on a vernissage in L.A. and subsequently decided to start their own fashion label, thus creating unique t-shirts that should counter the uninspired mainstream of the established fashion chains in style and politic. But first things first: Their t-shirts were meant to strike in the first place and their music was meant to follow. Such have been the initial plans. Their unparalleled sales figures serve to show that the ‘Fab Four’ know exactly what they are doing. This is also helped by the fact that they are hiding their true selves behind kind of stylish black and white masks, thus creating a mysterious and conspiratorial atmosphere which not only enhances their success but also sparks the imagination of both critics and supporters. Can this really be true? Find out and go on reading!

But the four guys don’t settle for this big first success in the universe of fashion. The music business will be in for a rough fight. Clay: “We have a clear goal in mind: As a start, we broke all sales records with our fashion label rapidly and now we are heading at same speed for the rock business. And let me tell you: our debut single is absolutely the shit!”

United we are strong-united we will win!

Yet, a few months after they launched their social media presentation, Jesse, Butch, Clay and Doc have already attracted hundreds of thousands of fans on facebook, who totally support with their idols. Furthermore, their huge twitter community is growing every day.

Here, Butch from Revolver California, has to say: „To be honest: it’s the supporters who made us what we are now. This is absolutely amazing and we are grateful for all this support from the start. They are the best and their enthusiastic loyalty is what we love them for. Seems as if we simply belong together – forever!!!!”

Revolver California are setting their sails for revolution, so be part of this fashion meets music happy metal ending!

Was Robin Williams a Coward? Was He Selfish? No, Just Ill

As the debate rages on as to the state of mind and moral standing on the suicide of the late and great, Robin Williams, it seems that everyone has an opinion. We have seen the social media storms over the comments of some people in the media. The truth is that regardless as to our own belief and understanding surrounding mental illness, they are still entitled to their own beliefs and to voice them.

Most people may think it is ill timed, inappropriate and such but the truth is that it is good. The debate keeps the issue of mental illness and depression fresh in people’s minds and opens dialogue. It also helps others reach out to learn and understand the issue. Further and more importantly, it may spur others to get help before they end their lives as Mr. Williams so tragically did. We will hope that through his death, like during his life he will help so many others. If one positive could come from his death, I am confident that he would want that to be for men (and women) to realize that it is a sign of strength, not weakness to get help.

A country musician by the name of Gord Bamford wrote a song entitled, “Leaning on a Lonesome Song”. It was about a family member who comitted suicide and how he had to learn more about how someone could do that. He had the opinion of many and when he had to face the death of a family member. He reached out to further understand the illness of depression and wrote a very powerful song about it. Whether you are into country music or not, search for his conversations about writing the song and his experience. It is very powerful and educational.

As a comedian and someone who takes medication for depression everyday, I understand the fear of reaching out for help. It took me many years to do it. I was always under the false impression that depression was a weakness and that men did not reach out for help. If I had not gotten treatment, I am sure I would have also found an end to the pain just as Robin did. We make jokes and keep people smiling for several reasons. We may say that it is for the sake of making people happy but the truth in many cases is that it is a way to hide our own pain and true feelings. Hide our own sadness and fear of rejection if people knew.

For Mr. Williams it must have been even harder to reach out and get help. It must have been torture to be afraid that if he was to get help, it would likely be made very public and that fear of people turing against him may have been only real in his own head, but it was real to him just as it is to almost everyone else who suffers in silence.

So please remember that Robin Williams lived his life helping others and sharing of himself. He wanted to make the world a better place. He hid his depression and the world is a darker place today without him. Depression has many causes but is a chemical imbalance mostly in cases of severe and prolonged suffering. Allow his death to be a stepping stone for others to learn, understand, increase compassion and reach out for help. That is indeed what a man like Robin Williams would want. After all, he may have been so many things but at the end of the day, he was still just a man suffering a horible pain. RIP Mr. Williams.

In closing to all of his friends, family and collegues. You can second guess yourself and never find the answer to what you could have done to stop this. You may think you could have intervened. So many thoughts of doubt and blame are going to enter your mind. Depression is an illness and the only thing you could have done is ensure that when he did make the decision to end the suffering, he knew that you cared and loved him. Do not allow his greatness to be forgotten due to his illness.

Lift-Off International Film Festival Selects BINKY

Los Angeles based director/screenwriter Stephen David Brooks was recently awarded an official selection for his film BINKY which was selected out of 700+ global entrants, to screen at the prestigious Los Angeles Lift-Off Film Festival, an indie event held annually in Venice Beach, California; which forms part of the wider Lift-Off International Film Festivals, who have live indie screenings in four transatlantic cities, each held quarterly throughout the year.

The festivals motto is: Look beyond the gloss. Put talent before technology.

Something that holds true to BINKY.

At the event all of the films will be scored by the attending audience, where the winners are then screened at all three proceeding transatlantic events, with the ultimate aim to give filmmakers like Stephen David Brooks the best exposure possible as they embark on their continued artistic journeys.

    James Alexander Co-Director and Co-Founder of Lift-Off says…

“Getting into any Lift-Off Film Festival is a massive achievement. The world of independent film has grown so much over the years that many of the grass rooted filmmakers and emerging professionals are left without much of a platform any more. We felt that many of these artists who were producing exceptional work were being hugely ignored – and deserved to be seen!”

The reasons for making a film are myriad, complex, and ultimately, mysterious. BINKY was borne out of a conversation with an ill friend. Our discussion of what, if anything, comes next was the subject of much conjecture and debate. In reality, we couldn’t answer the basic questions of existence. We could only speculate. It is out of this conversation that BINKY was created. It is merely an attempt to explain what comes next. Or, perhaps, it is more about how we choose to live out this life, how we choose to treat the people who touch our lives that is the answer. Perhaps we have been asking the wrong question all along. – Stephen David Brooks

    BINKY screens Friday, 5th September 2014, 6.30pm – 9.30pm

Los Angeles Lift-Off Film Festival is held at the Beyond Baroque Literary Arts Centre September 4th-6th Thurs-Saturday from 7-9.30pm. To register for free admittance head to the Film Festivals website http://www.lift-off-festival.com

REBELMANN® To Deliver Powerful Anti-Bullying Message

Clayton Mann, and his twin brothers Johnathon and Bryce Mann, better known as the Chicago rock band REBELMANN, will be performing on the Teen Nation Tour, starting September 22 in North Carolina. Simply hashtagged #TNT on popular social media sites, a new generation of young, talented artists will deliver powerful anti-bullying messages to student bodies as they travel across the country. Through artist talks of personal experieces, the Teen Nation Tour delivers a one-and-a-half hour, power-packed, musical program that now has students on social media sites requesting the tour stop in their town, thus confirming the anti-bullying message is resonating with their peers.

Clayton Mann, 14, and lead singer of REBELMANN, personally identifies with the #TNT format. “Kids our age respond much better to us, as artists’ their age, rather than someone older, say 33, talking at them about something they’re not really going through.”

His older brother, Bryce Mann, 17, who happens to be wildly popular with the students on Teen Nation Tour, chimes in. “Cyber-bullying is nonstop. Because of the internet, kids just can’t get away from all the hate once school is out. We’re here to tell them, ‘Not everyone is going to like you, and that’s OK, because you’re OK.’ But you have to be strong enough to love yourself, and not really let what others say get inside your head. There will always be someone who hates you, or hates what you do. I’ve been hated for drumming, for not playing sports, for being in a band, for playing live music. But you know what – they’re not going to stop me. This is what I do. I like what I do. I’m good at what I do, and I’m going to keep doing it. There’s only one person who can stop you – and that’s you. That’s the message we bring to Teen Nation Tour. So we’re here to help give kids confidence in themselves. Be who you are, and be OK with that.”

Johnathon Mann brings his message to Teen Nation Tour through a different medium, his guitar. With his mirrored sun glasses and lush, long hair, the lead lefty guitarist is known to play fast and furious on his gold-top Gibson Les Paul. Not as verbose as his twin, Bryce, Johnathon mesmerizes the students with his guitar skills, as a red-tail Hawk feather sways from his guitar head – a gift from the Navajo. As he bends his guitar strings into the next stratosphere, Johnathon also knows the sting of being bullied. His long hair has brought many comments of hate, his guitar skills challenged, his band – put down. But he chooses to march to the beat of a different drummer, or at least to the beat of his twin, Bryce.

Johnathon’s message to the student body is simple, “Keep doing what you’re doing. There are 7 billion people in the world – if someone hates you – that’s only one person – seriously, just keep marching.”

The Teen Nation Tour has been delivering messages of anti-bullying for 3 years now. As the tour continues to travel nationwide, it has gained much popularity amongst the schools and student bodies it serves. Throughout the year, #TNT receives many messages of gratitude from both administrators and individual students. In addition to the weekly school performances, which typically are scheduled twice daily, the Teen Nation Tour also performs weekend shows at various venues throughout the tour. Be sure to follow #TNT, and the #NextGeneration of artists, as they kickoff their schedule August 28th in Huntington, West Virginia.

‘David Bowie Is’ Makes its U.S. Debut in September

On September 23rd, the ‘David Bowie Is’ exhibition makes its U.S. debut at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA). The exhibition, meticulously curated by the Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum in London, explores the incredibly diverse work of one of the greatest artists of our time. For each of the exhibits, including the MCA exhibit coming to Chicago in September, V&A has partnered with audio specialist Sennheiser to ensure the best possible audio experience for visitors.

‘David Bowie Is’, which has already been experienced by more than half a million visitors around the world during its recent visits to London, Berlin, São Paulo and Toronto, is an artistic and technical marvel that covers the entire expanse of Bowie’s luminous career: from Ziggy Stardust to Aladdin Sane and beyond. By leveraging Sennheiser’s audio expertise, including its guidePORT technology and 3D immersive sound simulation equipment, visitors are left with an unforgettable sound and style experience that explores the very essence of David Bowie. Sennheiser’s guidePORT expert Robert Généreux is on site to install and configure the system at MCA.

David Bowie’s career is marked by continual re-invention, intellectual depth, musical innovation, striking visual presentation and unwavering artistic integrity. The exhibition takes visitors on a sonic and visual journey, retracing his creativity and influences from all areas of his art using a wealth of material — including videos, stage costumes, album covers, stage sets, photographs and of course his music. To develop the exhibit, curators Victoria Broackes (V&A) and Geoffrey Marsh were given unprecedented access to the David Bowie Archive, consisting of more than 70,000 pieces.

An Unprecedented Marriage of Art and Technology:
In preparation for their sonic and visual journey, each museum visitor is given a pair of Sennheiser headphones and a guidePORT receiver — enabling them to walk freely into 25 different ‘display zones’. Inside a control room behind the scenes, Sennheiser is constantly broadcasting 25 live audio streams through transmitters that are perfectly mapped to the floor plan of the exhibit. Each time a visitor walks towards a different display, the relevant audio stream activates, broadcasting high quality audio through corresponding antennas located nearby. Small trigger units called ‘identifiers’ located throughout the exhibit are able to recognize the geo-location of each visitor and pick up the appropriate audio stream.

In addition to the pristine streaming audio occuring throughout the exhibit, visitors are also invited to experience an extraordinary 3D audio spectacle, consisting of Bowie concerts from over the years and an exclusive ‘mash up’ of his songs, created by Tony Visconti, Bowie’s long-time producer. The immersive audio experience is made possible by a special 3D upmix algorithm created by Gregor Zielinsky, Sennheiser’s International Recording Applications Manager, and the experience is delivered through an array of hidden loudspeakers from Neumann — a Sennheiser subsidiary.

‘David Bowie Is’ is groundbreaking not only as an interactive exhibition of one of the greatest artists of our time, but also in how it integrates Sennheiser technology throughout the overall experience. This is another example of how Sennheiser has been a driving force in the innovation of sound since 1945 and routinely supports innovators and artists all around the world.

    BACKGROUND
Michael and Gabriel Saalfield are The Royce Twins. The Royce Twins have been singing for as long as they can remember and it’s the one thing that has kept them strong. The pair lost their mother when they were aged 8, and tragically their father at age 11.

“When our mother died we had to move around a lot and be in foster care,” Gabriel said. “We continued living with foster parents until we were 18. Music was one of the only things that kept our family together and we are all super close because of it.”

While it was heart breaking for them and their supporters to hear they did not progress to the final rounds of the X Factor, this twist of fate is likely to help them become the unofficial winners.

Since appearing on television, The Royce Twins have returned to doing what they’ve always done best – backing each other to follow their musical dreams.

“We have been playing, writing and we are looking forward to showcasing our music in time,” Michael said. “That’s going to be exciting. We’re looking forward to connecting with our fans and taking them on the journey with us.”

“We perform a mixture of popular and contemporary songs within an acoustic setting, including from time to time showcasing our own works, when we play live venues.” said Gabriel.

The Royce Twins have just released their Debut EP on iTunes. The CD is distributed by Waterfront Records, a subsidiary of MGM.

Musician turned Entreprenuer Opens Music Venue

There is a place off the beaten path on the way to Key West from Miami on US1; a hidden oasis that cannot be seen from the only road that leads you to within 90 miles of Cuba. Its a music venue, bar and restaurant called Dockside Tropical Cafe’. It may be a little hard to find but that’s what gives it so much charm. Dockside was re-opened in Nov of 2013 and is growing in popularity fast. It’s not your average story of a business man starting a restaurant. Quite the contrary actually. It is a tale of making dreams come true.

The new owner Eric Stone and his wife Kim Hess-Stone are motivated artists, each in their own realm. Eric is a successful independent singer/songwriter with 13 released Cds and Kim is a Yoga Instructor and author. The dynamic couple had an idea one day after Eric finished performing one night at the former Dockside before it went out of business from mismanagement and neglect. Eric told Kim it was sad to see how far down Dockside had fallen in recent years. (literally). It was sinking into the bay from improperly installed pilings from many years back. Just as Eric predicted, it did go out of business and sat empty for many months falling into more and more disrepair. The couple was saddened and motivated at the same time. Eric told Kim, semi-jokingly, that if they took the place over and fixed it up they could bring it back to life. Kim replied “Why don’t we then”? The problem was they had very little money as they had recently moved back from the Virgin Islands and had put most of their money into refitting the sailboat they lived on.

Eric had an idea. He had heard from his lead guitar player that one of his friends raised some money via Kickstarter, a crowd-funding site, to pay for the recording of a new CD he was releasing. Eric began researching crowd-funding. He had never even heard of it before that. After several months of intense research he decided to use Fundable.com, a crowd-funding site that allows reward based funding that can be transitioned into equity based funding. They soon would begin their campaign.

Shooting videos, writing stories and creating a buzz about their upcoming campaign was priority one. They also figured if it was meant to be, the community would tell them they were doing the right thing. Boy did they! On the 5th day of the campaign they hit $25,000.00. It was happening super fast and very inspiring. They raised over 68k though Fundable and private rewards via their website. Once equity investors got wind of their initial success, the dream became a reality.

They are both so grateful to the kick start they received from friends and fans who believed in them. Eric says, “If it wasn’t for them, Dockside may be sitting on the bottom of Boot Key Harbor by now, it was in real bad shape”.

The one thing they did once they began the renovation was to keep it’s charm. It has been known as “The Livingroom” to sailing cruisers since the 70’s. Boot Key is the kickoff point for the Caribbean and many a sailboater begins their crossing here. Dockside has been cleaned up and lifted out of it’s sinking misery to once again host live music and great food and drinks for locals and tourist alike.

It’s been less than a year since it’s rebirth and Eric and Kim and giving 100% to keeping it on the right path. Running a successful spot like this takes lots of capital and love invested. They still have plans for upgrades and eventually would like to add a brewery to Dockside. They are still open to investors via fundable.com or can be contacted directly.

If you would like to experience the real Keys and take in some great music, make sure to stop by on your way to or from Key West. It is Eric and Kims plan to be there for many years to come. On reason it has become so popular with traveling bands is that Eric treats musicians the way he wanted to be treated. As a performing singer/songwriter himself, Eric has played at more venues than he can remember. When he opened Dockside he didn’t want to be the kind of place that puts music in as an after thought. “I can’t tell you how many places I’ve played on the road that when I arrived and asked where is the stage?, the owner or manager would say, Oh we’ll just move some tables out of the way and you can play in the corner”. There was never adequate light or power to plug in amps. He would always have to bring his own PA and extension chords. Well, not at Dockside. Dockside boasts a state of the art sound system with a 16 channel iPad mixing board so the sound is perfect. Bose speakers ensure perfect volume throughout the house. Musicians love it. They bring their instruments and just plug in and are mixed by an in-house sound man. They are all treated like royalty here. They get a healthy bar tab for drinks and food and often Eric& Kim put groups up in their 41 foot sailboat “Ave de Paso” (Bird of Passage).

Eric says “It’s hard work but after 13 years of being on the road, it’s nice to have a home that both I and all my musician friends can perform in”. It is my home off of the road”.

To find out more about Dockside visit their website or just stop by and grab a Mojito or Pain Killer. You’ll be island inspired.
