Ashton Nyte’s mega project, known as The Awakening, has released the new album titled ‘The Passage Remains’ as well as the video for ”Passage (part I – IV)’.

Both dark and earnest in construction and execution, we get a set of feelings that, while written by someone else, lend themselves to our inspirations, aspirations, and dreams. And, if we listen well enough and hard enough, we can turn those into our own actions. A rallying cry, maybe?

To see that there are eighteen songs within ‘The Passage Remains’ is another astonishment. There is no filler. Each song stands on it’s own. Everything is in the best order to simple hit play and close your eyes and get lost in a world you create with Ashton as your guide.

‘Passage (part I – IV)’ seems generated from multiple influences spanning both time and genres. I immediately felt the spirit of the Doors with those first few bars, before it kicked in with slow filtered dark adrenaline.

Visually, I feel a collage of mindscapes woven by a somber soul and that division between Ashton and The Awakening. This is the collective signature of the latter. To be so in tuned with ones creative flow is something only a truly gifted artist can accomplish. Originality can be a blessing or a curse. Only in people like Ashton Nyte can those also be an inspiration.

About The Awakening & ‘The Passage Remains’

The Awakening has just released a new music video for the epic 4-part title track of their new double album, The Passage Remains. The video, “Passage (Part I – IV),” sets the stage for an album that returns to The Awakening’s Gothic Metal roots dramatically. “The essence of the song came to me in a dream, and I have taken that inspiration and woven it through the album. Dreams, our hopes, needs and desires, and personal journeys, in the face of adversity and other obstacles,” says The Awakening’s frontman, Ashton Nyte.

The physical album is packaged as a deluxe double CD (with double vinyl scheduled for next year). “The album was created to be enjoyed either as a whole, in two parts, or as two separate entities, each complete within themselves. It is a project I have wanted to create for many years, and I am delighted with the outcome,” says Ashton Nyte.

Now based in the USA, The Awakening is a dark musical project originally from South Africa, founded by singer, songwriter, and producer Ashton Nyte. The Awakening has released 10 albums to date. Ashton Nyte has also collaborated with members of The Mission, Peter Murphy, The Cure, Beauty In Chaos, and many more. Nyte released his first book of poetry and short stories and his 7th solo album, Waiting For A Voice, in 2020.
