The Rainkings offer up a remembrance of summers gone by with their new single titled ‘Good Times’. The track delivers a happy-go-lucky chord progression highlighted by a perfect organ accompaniment accented by a left of centre dirty guitar not normally found in unison with that type of organ giving the song a modern-retro vibe that highlights the originality of the band. A must listen all year ’round!

The Rainking’s new single ‘Good Times’ will be released October 27th, 2017 in memory of Craig Gill of Inspiral Carpets and in aid of The British Tinnitus Association (BTA).

About The Rainkings
The Rainkings formed in late 2012 with current band members, Stephen Holt (Inspiral Carpets), Dave Swift (ex-InspiralCarpets) and John Rowland (ex-The Bodines). They released their compilation album ‘Another Time’, 1989 – 1994’ which motivated them to stay together and set about writing new material.

They were later joined by Cathy Brooks (Dub Sex and Dumb) and Chris Hutchison and recorded 3 further songs (Nothing’s Set in Stone, In From the Rain and By My Side) in November 2013. Jim Spencer (who has previously worked with The Charlatans and Inspiral Carpets) produced and recorded the tracks at the Big Mushroom studios.

After a short break and due to Stephen’s commitments with Inspiral Carpets they came back together (now minus Hutchison) to record 2 more songs (Low Hit and Getting Nowhere) at SSR Studios in Manchester with Paul Williams. These tracks complimented their previous recordings and the ‘Fiveways EP’ was released on their own label, Hear Here Records.

Now firmly established, The Rainkings have been back writing new material, rehearsing and playing gigs. Although sadly, when Craig Gill (Inspiral Carpets), took his own life after being a long-term sufferer from tinnitus and a condition that affected his mental health they felt they wanted to remember him.

Inspiral Carpets are a part of us and are probably amongst most of our music collections. His legacy has influenced so many bands and was part of the sound of Manchester, but more importantly through his work with Inspiral Carpets reached an audience and told them that they were not alone. ‘Good Times’ which was written in 1993 which describes looking back on fond memories and was the obvious song choice to release in his honor.

The hope is that ‘Good Times’ will raise awareness of the damage of overexposure to loud music which affected Craig to such a tragic extent. Working closely with the British Tinnitus Association (BTA), Stephen is now an ambassador, raising the profile of the organization and the condition. So, this song is in memory of Craig and all proceeds are given to the BTA to continue their exceptional work.
