First Listen: The Slow Readers Club – Don’t Mind

    10286923_10152448075441118_3169144035056143786_o

Manchester based Indie/Electro band The Slow Readers Club release their new single ‘Don’t Mind’ on September 22nd. It’s a beautifully introspective ballad that details the end of a relationship.

As singer Aaron Starkie explains “Lyrically the song concerns the limbo period that can be experienced at the end of a relationship. One of you has already called it a day and the other hasn’t let go; it’s in a half dead state. One of our favourite songs is ‘I Know It’s Over’ by The Smiths which has a similar theme, that was probably an influence.

It started with the keyboard riff, and vocal, the melody came in one go from start to finish, that rarely happens but often the best songs are those that come so easily.

“We kept the song sparse and musically intimate. It took a long time to write the lyrics, I was still working on them in the recording studio! The chorus came to me in the studio reception ‘I stood outside your mothers house I watched you from afar, I found it hard to breathe. A solitary figure standing lonely in the dark, I’ll always be’. It felt like I had found the heart of the song.”

The Slow Readers Club’s critically acclaimed debut album, released in May 2012, received airplay on BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing, NME, Q Radio, NME TV, Sky Sports, Soccer am and ITV, drawing comparisons with Interpol, The Killers and Arcade Fire. The band’s innovative music videos have received widespread media attention with 2012’s ‘Block Out The Sun’ singled out to feature on Coldplay’s website.

The upcoming video for ‘Don’t Mind’ illustrates the theme of the song perfectly with Steve Coogan’s niece Mary Joanna Coogan, herself the vocalist with Mary Joanna & The Southern Electrikk, playing a young woman ending a relationship with her heartbroken boyfriend, played by Stephen Evans (ex Twisted Wheel).

2014 has seen The Slow Readers Club continue to build a loyal fan base with Peter Hook describing them as his new favourite band in a recent NME New Music Special and Steve Lamacq and Chris Hawkins featuring both their last single ‘Start Again’ as well as ‘Don’t Mind’ on their BBC 6 Music shows. ‘Don’t Mind’ has also featured on Steve Lamacq’s Roundtable receiving 7/10 from all three panelists as well being named as Xfm’s Shock of the New track on Jo Good’s afternoon show.

    Finding The Edge Of Life

A Southampton based rock group with such an impressive live show that Turbowolf said they “wished they sounded like” them, Hercules Morse are a four piece hard rock band with a sound that moves between heavy and stoner rock.

Their new release, ‘Edge of Life’, is unleashed next month and continues their penchant for creating hard edged rock tunes that still carry a melodic, infectious punch.

Recorded and mixed by Neil Kennedy (Burn The Fleet, Landscapes, Press to Meco, Don Broco) of Ranch Production house, and mastered by Alan Douches (Brand New, Bowling for Soup, Cannibal Corpse, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Sepultura), this is fresh new rock music which deserves to be found by hardcore rock fans specifically and music fans in general.

Their upcoming video also hints at their inherent sense of humour when it comes to the music, taking a tongue in cheek look at 90s nostalgia –featuring none other than former Fun House presenter Pat Sharp – so keep your eyes peeled for that on October 31th.

    Hercules Morse are:
Steve George – Rhythm Guitar and Lead Vocals
Harry Gardner – Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals
    Paul Shott – Bass
    Guillaume “Gizmo” Redonnet-Brown – Drums

The new music represents the start of a new chapter for a band that, in a previous five-piece set-up, received plaudits from Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson, as well as national press coverage from the likes of Kerrang Radio, NME, Scuzz TV and BBC 6 Music. This new release deserves to build on that success.

‘Edge of Life’ is released on October 27th.

Judging from the tracks Dyme let us in on early this year, his creative process captures all the things we love about hip hop music. From production to storytelling, rhyme patterns, and metaphors, Dyme embraces the very art of hip hop.

As the birth place of hip hop, New York has a way of passing that powerful energy to its’ artists. With a solid spiritual upbringing, and years of studying the art, Dyme-A-Duzin has become quite the craftsman in composing, and translating amazing hip hop energy. Dyme’s HIP HOPE movement holds promise for the future of hip hop culture. Providing a well balanced blend of past, present, and mainstream hip hop vibes, the HIP HOPE album is a noteworthy representation of really good New York music. The album’s cover presents a symbol of hope. It shows Dyme walking of a cliff holding a gold baloon. Dyme breaks down the meaning in a recent interview with allhiphop.com:

Nights Of Malice Unleash ‘The Hindering’

New Jersey metalcore outfit Nights Of Malice has just released their brand new single. The track, entitled “The Hindering,” is the first release since the band’s 2012 EP entitled Subdivision and is expected to be included on their forthcoming 2015 release. The band combines crushing drums and guitar sweeps with melodic soundscapes to create a sound any fan will be drawn into. The band has recently joined the management agency Brace Yourself Management after spending the better part of five years rising up the local New Jersey ranks by playing numerous shows and releasing two EPs.

    About Nights Of Malice:
Formed in 2009 by vocalist James Cook and guitarist Andrew Norris, Nights Of Malice was rounded out by drummer Joe Capasso, bassist Peter Irizarry, and guitarist Xavier Quiles to complete the five piece band. The band quickly went to work on crafting their sound and playing shows around the greater New Jersey area. In 2010 they released their first self-titled EP, which was recorded at Entrolab Studios. The EP helped raise the band’s profile while they continued to play local and regional shows. Nights Of Malice would then write for the next two years leading up to the October 2012 release of their Subdivision EP. They would soon release a music video for the single “Looks Can Be Deceiving.” 2013 saw the departure of original bassist Peter Irizarry which led the way for Alec Jacobson to fill the position. With the release of the new single, entitled “The Hindering,” Nights Of Malice is in prime position to continue making a name for themselves.

Catya Maré Nominated for Hollywood Music in Media Award

Catya Maré´s latest instrumental pop / classical crossover single “Voce”, which was released internationally on August 28, 2014, just received a nomination for the prestigious Hollywood Music in Media Award 2014.
The winner of the USA Songwriting Competition and Billboard World Song Contest already was awarded the HMMA four years ago for her instrumental song “Light Longing”.

“Voce” is another stunning pop / classical crossover piece, which features vocals, gorgeous strings sections, a majestic piano part, funky beats and bass lines topped by a mesmerizing solo violin melody.
The single is available from Amazon.com, iTunes, Google Play Music etc.

“Voce” was composed, produced and performed by Catya Maré, and audio mastered by the legendary Matt Forger at Anisound, whose credits include Michael Jackson, Donna Summer, Paul McCartney, Patti Austin, Quincy Jones, Steven Spielberg, John Landis, George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola.

Both Catya Maré and Matt Forger agree, that the process was exciting, but also challenging , since there is a delicate balance between the solo violin and the rest of the mix, that quickly can get altered.
Catya Maré: “It took a little longer than usual to complete “Voce”, but now both of us are really happy with the result!”

The Hollywood Music in Media Awards will be held at the Fonda Theater in Hollywood, California, on November 4, 2014.

Rogue Puppets Campaign to Raise Funds for Theater Residency

You are taking a leisurely hike through the desert of Arizona. Suddenly, an audible “gasp” escapes your lungs as your eyes settle on a horrifying site of mayhem and carnage—no, not that dead steer! I refer to the lazy tumbleweed of blue fur that has encased another wandering puppet within its thorny tomb. Okay, maybe THAT is a tad dramatic…but so are the All Puppet Players! CALLING ALL AFECTIONADOS OF FUR! Owner/Artistic Director Shaun Michael McNamara, has announced the All Puppet Players’ commitment to a permanent residence in Arizona with their new Kickstarter Campaign to procure the funding for a theatre HOME to call their very own. The campaign can be viewed at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/allpuppetplayers/all-puppet-players-need-a-home.

The word “Puppet” usually brings to mind an image of children’s gleeful faces chortling to the antics of colorful, cute fuzzy creatures extolling the virtues of any given letter of the alphabet. Well, these aren’t THOSE puppets! Arizona native Shaun Michael McNamara and his wildly entertaining cast of characters have their googly-eyes set on the theatre occupying the first floor of Viad Tower located in Midtown Phoenix (1850 N. Central Avenue). Their “Puppet Plea” for a home of their own can be viewed below:

This tawdry troupe brings edgy, irreverent, comedy geared toward the more mature theatre-goer. Felt will fly as McNamara and his in-your-face furries take hold of your hearts with odes to some classic films through parodies that are part fur, part felt—and ALL FUNNY!

Arriving in the Valley of the Sun last theater season after their triumphant performances and rave reviews to sell-out crowds in California, McNamara’s molting, motley crew delivered three hilarious, critically-acclaimed productions that tantalized theatre-goers of every taste (although tasting is NOT recommended—fur ball alert!).

Says McNamara of this venture, “This is a chance for an alternative theater to thrive in Arizona. We have such a unique niche when it comes to what we do on stage. It’s a combination of puppets, an original play, and then taking a torch to the ‘Theater 101’ handbook. We are part improv and part dynamite. Creating everything from the ground up, we write and build new theater pieces for an entire season. On top of that, we throw a whole bunch of furry and felt-infused puppets onto the stage and the result is something you have never seen before! This is our chance to prove that puppets are NOT just for children anymore AND can sustain an entire year of theater. So help us–you know you want to!”

Last season, All Puppet Players hit the ground running (so to speak) with their campy production of The Exorcist Has No Legs–their puppet-infused depiction of AFI’s #3 most thrilling movie, like, EVER! And what better way to pay homage to the 40th Anniversary of this epic horror tale, than with a puppet that rotates its head while spewing Silly String?

The craziness continued as audiences were invited to get “felt” up with the puppets lending a “hand” (sorry, couldn’t resist) taking their naughtiness to a whole new level of lewd with 50 Shades of Felt–based on the bestselling novel and much-heralded upcoming movie Fifty Shades of Grey. What resulted was a scintillating show that would make Avenue Q blush (not easy through fur), and also garnered three nominations for ariZoni Theater Awards For Excellence for Best Original Play and Supporting Actor nods for both Shaun Michael McNamara and cast member David Chorley.

Rounding out the tantalizing trilogy was the hairy and hilarious presentation of Top Gun: Live, Abridged, and Completely Underfunded as furry, fly-boy puppets took that “highway to the danger zone”–soaring several “feet” off the ground, taking the audience on a randy romp through the “sky”.

Once the puppets are off the streets and settled into their new home (otherwise referred to as ”Sober House”) and allowing for any needed rehab services, the puppets will be poised to perform some pretty prolific productions (note to self—great alliteration there!). Tentatively planned for this coming season are runs of Puppet Wars: Episode 1…But Really 4 (can you say “May the FELT be with you!”?), Humbug! (a fuzzy treatment of A Christmas Carol—with apologies in advance to Charles Dickens), and 50 Shades of Felt—just in time for Valentine’s Day lovers!

Theater Reviewer and Critic, Kerry Lengel of The Arizona Republic recognized All Puppet Playersin his August 1, 2014 column. Lengel touted in a tongue-in-cheek fashion, the best of the Phoenix area’s 2013-14 theatrical season, by figuratively handing out his own cleverly compiled awards. With great flourish, Lengel proclaimed “The South Park Award for yucky yuks goes to…All Puppet Players”—and followed with this statement:

“If you thought the foul-mouthed puppets of Avenue Q were outrageous, then you missed out on the naughtiest inaugural season in local-theater history. All Puppet Players is the twisted brainchild of Shaun Michael McNamara, who founded the company in Southern California before moving back home to Arizona last year. His pop-culture spoofs–The Exorcist Has No Legs, Fifty Shades of Felt and Top Gun: Live, Abridged & Completely Underfunded–didn’t just push the envelope of questionable taste, they tore it to hilariously filthy shreds, thanks to foam-rubber S&M and spray-can projectile vomiting.”

Shaun Michael McNamara learned puppetry as a child in Arizona, while enrolled in an After-School Program taught by an area music teacher. Seventeen years later, he opened his first show, Hamlet Has No Legs, to a sold-out run in California—with the educator that inspired his delve into puppetry in attendance.

Although All Puppet Players plans their theater residency at Viad Towers, they will continue to delight California audiences as well at The Maverick Theater in Fullerton where they have a fervent, fur-loving fan base.

All Puppet Players is a nomadic theatre troupe whose sole purpose is to create quirky and innovative stage shows using puppetry to demolish the “typical” theatre experience and add a bit of anarchy to every stage on which they perform. The company has garnered numerous awards and recognitions for their productions and live events. For more information, please visit their web site at www.allpuppetplayers.com, their Facebook fan page at www.facebook.com/allpuppetplayers, or catch them on Twitter at www.twitter.com/allpuppetplayer.

    Nu-Jazz Masters Sienná “Knows Why”

Sienná are a trio who revel in the colorful and varied blend of life and music that the world has to offer. As people they hail from diverse backgrounds, with roots spreading multi-nationally from Japan to Europe – as musicians they carry on an ethos of amalgamation.

The new single ‘I Know Why’ is a blend of electronic pop, jazz and ‘Gagaku’ – a type of traditional music from Kyoto, Japan – ancient imperial court music written to accompany dance. It is also the first track produced by front-lady Sienná herself, and will be released via her own label Anneis Records.

The new music video was filmed at a farm that belongs to the family of bassist, Hallvard Gaardlos. The huge, beautiful farm takes his surname as its own, Gaardlos. In total contradiction, the English translation of this Norwegian name is ‘Farmless’.

Joining Sienná (keyboard, vocal, sound-module) and Hallvard (bass) to complete the trio is Vegard Lien Bjerkan (keyboard). The band last performed in the UK in May, and have since performed at the major Scandinavian festival Sommerøya Elektronika Festival, as well as Berlin’s newest Jazz Boulevard Steglitz Festival. They are back in October for a set of exclusive UK dates in promotion of the single, including support spots for the legendary The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Of the tour, Sienná says:

“We performed with Arthur [Brown] last time we were in the UK, which was an amazing experience. We are so happy to be back with him, and indeed in the UK as a whole this October – it is becoming a home from home, and we can’t wait to play”

New single ‘I Know Why’ will be released on Monday 20th October 2014.

Join Sienná at one of the following live shows in October 2014:

Dutch DJ Richard Durand Teams Up with Vocalist Fisher ‘In Your Hands’

‘In Search Of Sunrise: Dubai’ – the latest celebrated chapter of his mix-comp got the season started right and halfway through he dropped ‘Blast’ – a track which raced pulses and rocketed straight to a Beatport #1. Now, ready to give summer a muy caliente kiss-off, Richard Durand has joined production forces with US songstress Fisher for a floor-touch clubland won’t quickly forget!

With a string of trance vocal credits to her name (including work with Thrillseekers, Moonbeam, Filo & Peri and Sean Tyas), US chanteuse Fisher is scarcely in need of introduction. On ‘In Your Hands’ the smokily alluring inflexion of her voice and her club embracing lyrics wrap around Richard’s decimating production track creating all the properties necessary for a future anthem…

Available on Beatport, through MagikMuzik/Black Hole Recordings now. Pick up Richard Durand Feat. Fisher ‘In Your Hands’ at http://www.beatport.com/release/in-your-hands/1357094.

From beat-one of Durand’s Original Mix, the Dutchman masterfully cranks up the floor tension, with an intro that’s all amphetamizing tech-tonic trance. Reaping FX, club-whipping distortion and the moody thrall of Fisher’s verse start the fire, while the pitch wheel pours on the petrol. With ‘In Your Hands’s taxi ride to the darkly atmospheric side seemingly a certainty, Richard pulls off a stunning switcheroo, allowing a few synth shafts and then the full rush of pads, chords and Fisher’s chorus to lift the track up.

Celebrating Ten Years of Podcasting on September 30th

Have you listened to a podcast today? Statistics say that millions of people have downloaded and listened to a podcast, today.

It’s taken 10 years, but the podcast, a digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading or streaming to a computer or portable media player is ready to have its moment in the sun; or should we say, cyberspace?

“September 30th will be a day to celebrate podcast producers, a day to celebrate podcast consumers,” said Steve Lee, founder of NetCast Studio, a leading podcast network. “We need a day that we can educate the world about the wonders of podcasting.”

What Lee is saying isn’t just his opinion, it’s a fact. As more and more mainstream broadcasters and celebrities start releasing podcasts, the market is booming and the download numbers don’t lie. The entertainment system in the car you will be driving in as early as two years will be able to stream podcasts. Airlines have already stocked their “inflight entertainment” options with various podcasts flyers can listen to at 34,000 feet.

Lee says podcasting strikes a chord with him.
“It’s like being in the early days of TV and Radio, but also it has provided an avenue to create audio and video information, education and entertainment, which can’t be found through traditional media.”

National Podcast Day is dedicated to promoting podcasting worldwide through public education and social media engagement.

Currently, there are approximately 250,000 unique podcasts, broadcast in more than 100 languages and more than 8 million episodes have been published in the iTunes Store.
It is thought that as podcasting becomes a more integral aspect of entertainment, education and self expression, the public needs to be familiar with the term and know what they are. This is where where National Podcast Day comes in.

Lee says with just about everyone carrying a smartphone, listening to podcasts has never been easier.

“Consumers now can listen to shows while at the gym, mowing the lawn or driving to work. Soon, you will be able to listen to you favorite shows built right into you car’s audio system with Apple’s Car Play or Stitcher Radio.”

NationalPodcastDay.com has been set up, not only as a resource, but also as a site where current podcasters, listeners or anyone curious about podcasting can go and learn about the industry and get the word out about this broadcast medium.

Most of all, remember that podcasting is meant to be both educational and fun.

Lee and his team want everyone to go out and spread the word; National Podcast Day is September 30. Social Media Hashtag: #podcastday

New Internet Courtroom Drama to Debut September 11th

Season One, Episode One of Trial 2020 airs September 11th, 2014 on its home site www.thetrial2020.com via its Thousand Ton Productions YouTube Channel

We spoke with Writer/Producer Abraham Doe.

    What is Trial 2020 About?
It’s a made-for-TV drama-comedy trying to depict America’s struggle with the definitions of “right” and “wrong.” It is intended to be a long-running set of episodes in which case after case, laden with social/moral implications, finds its way into federal court. The court’s decisions by default begin to impact the US social and moral fabric.

    What type of court?
The cases come before a Federal District court located in New York. This is the lowest level of federal court. There are 94 federal district courts. Decisions made in these courts are often appealed to the next higher court, which are US Appeals Courts. By 2020, Trial 2020 is taking place in US Appeals Courts. The one court above that, which is presently out of scope, is the US Supreme Court.

    Why the court room setting?
It is a logical, safe place to air two sides of a given story – sanely and unemotionally. Or at least emotions can be managed. It is also a safer place to be when the topics are incendiary and highly-controversial like many of the Trial 2020 cases will be.

Can we have a hint as to some of the cases we will see?
Well, in Episode One the introduction of a case around the sport of boxing is made. Should there be less versus more regulation around the safety of the sport, or as a Congressman says in Episode One, should “grown adults be told what to do?” I should say Episode One airing 9-11 will be a shorter episode. We did not want to go to far before getting some public reaction to the tenor and flow of what we are trying to do. Another case will involve bigamy.

How many seasons or episodes are expected?
The first six episodes of Trial 2020 are all between pre-production and release. Episodes seven through twelve are being primed for entry into pre-production. We will be making further assessments as episodes are released.

    What is the release plan?
Of course, a shorter Episode One, is freely released Sept 11. We really hope to get public feedback on it. We will be announcing the release plans for Episodes 2 through 6 not very long after September 11th.

Are all actors and actresses aboard for Episodes 2 through 12?
All cast is set through episode 6. We will announce auditions for the additional cast that will be needed when we move to producing Episodes 7 through 12.

How are things looking with the cast presently aboard?
Trial 2020 has attracted some of the Phoenix area’s best talent. Some of the cast is also somewhat new to film. So there are some cases where cast is hitting the ground running and some where some cast development is needed.

What is the cast of Episode One?
Stan Sessoms, “Jerry Maguire (1996),” and Mitch Etter were in the attempted pilot (2013), and have returned to Season One. They both kick off Episode One. We also have Arlienne Scofield, Sylvia Romero, Matthew Lenzi, Melissa Ann Farley, James Brunhuber Sr, Terry Wright, Charles Nemec, Josh Schwartz, Alexzander Rodgers, Adal Robles, Marc DeCrosta, Jessica Daniels, Sharon Bohm, Kunle Ransom, The Ransom’s children Alexis, Aidan and Amare, Takashi Sato, Stella Diamond, EricAnimal Rane, Maryam Nalbandian and Dane Schaefges kicking off Episode One.

What production team is Anno Domini LLC using for Trial 2020?
Global Phenomz Marketing Entertainment Group, where Mr. Christian Phyfier is CEO, is producing Season One. The talent from Global Phenomz are Angie Racine, President of Production, as Cinematographer and Editor. On her team are Maggie Buchert, Camera, and Madison “Madi” Nedved, Audio. Handling Make-Up have been Susana Duenas and Michelle Aranda.

Who is assisting directly under Anno Domini LLC?
Jacqueline Sessoms as Production Assistant on Episode One, Angie Morrissey handling Social Media Marketing, Brianna Doe providing Script Supervising.

    Any theatre plans?
We looking at being in a Phoenix/Scottsdale Area theatre by the Christmas season.

What’s moving you to create this?
On one hand it’s a prelude to a future feature-length film called Anno Domini. On another hand, America is great, but, not perfect. America is also relatively young. There are civilizations that have existed thousands of years. There is a scripture that says “pride goeth before destruction…” Hopefully in some small way Trial 2020 will draw America’s attention back to an increased respect for and reliance on its original source of ‘higher guidance’ and to the question ‘how in the first place did we come to know what was “right” and what was “wrong”‘

Edisun Song Chosen As World Song Of Peace

The rock band Edisun is very pleased to announce that their song “While the World’s Asleep” has been chosen as a “world song of peace,” to help raise awareness to the dire plight of the ‪#‎Yazidi‬ people. It is a true honor for us as a band to help spread world peace through the power of music.

The Yazidi have been subject to ethnic cleansing: genocide at the hands of ‪#‎Isis‬ . Every day their men are being murdered, and their women kidnapped and brutally and repeatedly raped.

We want to let people know before its too late. It is our deepest hope that the ‪#‎Yazidis‬ find relief from this awful situation.

Edisun is a alternative rock band. they got their start playing for american troops touring in places no band should ever have to play, the desserts of Iraq and Afghanistan. We finally got our first record out on EMI in 2011, broke Billboard Top 40 and Top 50 with #Medicate, and #Wide Awake. We are now preparing to release our second record, and continue touring the world wherever we have fans and people #ReadytoBelieve in the power of music to make a difference.

Tour dates are expected to run through the end of 2014 with a full radio, social media, and promotional campaign propelling the band well into 2015.

Daily Dose: The Busks – Je T’aime Beacoup

    10580813_362757157207418_6404229047672690228_o

The Busks are made up of Jacob Miller, Dylan Miller, and Justin Holt. It all started with Jacob and Dylan wanting to make music together and no, they aren’t related. Eventually Dylan’s, Justin, came along and started jamming with The Busks. It’s all history from there. The Busks are unique in the fact that they play in a triangle during live performances (still turned to the audience of course) and switch instruments on almost every song. Each song is recorded differently from the other offering a unique sound for each track.

Aussie Psychedelia as Transference release ‘Lady Isis’

Here is the first half of the new album by Transference titled, “the navigators” and was mixed by Ryan Kelly in NY and mastered by Pete Maher at Topfloor in London. The album features a look back at our ancient past and the very origins of our humanity on this planet. The highlights on this eclectic album include the singles, Lady Isis and Eloquence and feature varying intensity in the vocal delivery by both Georgia Harris (Aust) and Kata Ruszic (New York). The album has been signed to the enigmatic Ireland/UK based label Dynamik Records and will be release through Universal distribution across the UK and Western Europe in mid January 2015 just in time for the Midem conference in Cannes, France. Enjoy the journey and stand by for a preview of the rest of the album shortly.

‘Lady Isis’ will be available from Sept 29th but can be pre-ordered on iTunes http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/lady-isis-single/id911892303.

A psychedelic Melbourne based core of musicians who invite vocalists from all over the world to join their musical extravaganza, the aim of the rotating cast is to ensure they keep things fresh & vibrant, the uniqueness of Transference is an all encompassing musical fusion of Pink Floyd meets Tangerine Dream approach to the songwriting and production style which delivers the pomp & ceremony of a Rick Wakeman theatrical spectacular, no two performances are the same so the level of unpredictability of the players and their collective presentation of the music is always a welcome surprise, imagine a musical satsang that will leave you uplifted, energised & empowered. This is what you will get & more. A bold claim perhaps, but one which Transference proudly makes.

Their sound is an ensnaring blend of rhythms and melodies with lyrics inspired by the band’s take on integrating us with our mythical roots, a magical sense of awe & wonder traversing forgotten lands and ancient mythology. This is typified in the lyrics of the the new single ‘Lady Isis’.

Taken from their album “The Navigators” & released in association with Ikonic Artists, their music is hypnotic & engaging. This truly international project, captured by New York producer Ryan Kelly & mastered by the legendary Pete Maher (U2, Jack White, The Killers, Rolling Stones) in London. With fellow musicians Tangerine Dream & Mike Oldfield among their fans, which should give you an idea of the kind of quality they bring to the table. This is not pop music in any sense, but an ongoing creative output that flows into their electrifying live performances, the band draw inspiration from the audience on stage to create a truly personal experience.

While in the home the couple soon comes to terms with the true meaning of their relationship; will it survive the Apocalypse?

This is an engaging drama about a couple in a dire situation. Dan Nye and Renina C. Black deliver breakthrough performances as this couple that is fighting to survive in a post apocalyptic world. The film was shot entirely on location in Copley, Ohio.

    From Zero 2 Hero 24/Seven

The rapper from the UK, known as 24SE7EN has released his new international single, “Zero2Hero.” In addition to the skills of 24SE7EN, himself, the single also features the talents of Alex Buchanan and Dani Vi. The track has been proudly released on the S2N Records (Second2NoneRecords) independent music label, entirely without support from the corporate music infrastructure. Filled with strings, lines, rhymes, beats and bass, “Zero2Hero” by 24SE7EN is the latest reason for fans of pop and rap music to stand up and take notice of this up-and-coming artist and music label.

24SE7EN cites as main artistic influences a broad spectrum of artists, including such disparate names as Michael Jackson, the Beatles, Elton John, and Fleetwood Mac, as well as many of the most seminal names in hip hop. These include Eminem, Nas, Dr. Dre, the Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur, Madchild, MGK, Slaughterhouse, the Wu-Tang Clan, Ill Bill and Talib Kweli. 24SE7EN’s own sound blends the most powerful attributes of these with his own unique and inimitable style, one which includes razor-sharp, digital sound engineering and equally cutting urban poetry.

Speaking of the themes of his new single, S2N Records writes that 24SE7EN’s song is about “personal belief, growth and success. 24SE7EN describes in many ways that you can be whatever you want to be and do what ever you want to do. Anything is possible if you believe.”

24SE7EN’s first official single under the S2N banner was published in spring 2014, titled, “Eyes of a Child.” Like “Zero2Hero,” the track features Alex Buchanan, best known as a semi-finalist on the popular BBC program, “The Voice UK” in 2013. “Eyes of a Child” has been made available on such major music websites as MTV.com , VH1.com, MTV.ca and MuchMusic.com. 24SE7EN’s music is ready now for broadcast on MTV Hits and MTV Latin in America both on cable and satellite.

Whilst 24SE7EN is on the road gigging and doing shows, he is also currently in the studio working on new material for his first studio album, “Pain Breeds Strength.”

“Zero2Hero” by 24SE7EN is available online worldwide.

Daily Dose: Olio – Get A Room

    379665_10151991433754890_1988608258_n

    Olio are:
Arif – Vocals, Guitars & Keys
DeHaven – Drums, Vocals & Stuff
Kelley – Bass, Vocals & Gymnastics

Three brothers from other mothers (and fathers) got together, from the OC, LA and DC, to create a miscellaneous collection of musical works aka OLIO. Inspired by everything from Black Sabbath to Barry White these guys stir up an eclectic blend of rock/pop/funk music and serve it up hot! Whether it’s songs about break-ups, make-outs, shake-ups or four letter words, Olio produces electrifying, positive music from their studio in Los Angeles, CA. On stage Arif Hodzic sings and breaks strings (sometimes his right hand gets heavy), DeHaven Carrington grooves on drums and croons (when the lights are low and the mood is right), and newest member Kelley Hill is a fireball of energy, bouncing on one leg and just tearing the bass up (you may even see metal shavings come off the neck).

Olio hit the road in the USA the summer of 2013 for their “Comeback Kings Tour.” Played a successful string of dates in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and cities in between in June and Scottsdale, Austin, Fort Worth, Little Rock, Columbus, Philadelphia, NYC, DC, Kill Devil Hills and Atlanta in July and August. 5 weeks, 11,000 miles and 30 shows! They went back into the studio to record a brand new album “Untitled” due for release in March 2014. This is a much anticipated project, after their time with recording legend Eddie Kramer, who produced the band’s last two EP’s, the aforementioned Comeback Kings & the yet to be released France Sessions.

Back on December 18, 2012 Olio released the Comeback Kings EP produced by legendary producer/engineer Eddie Kramer (Hendrix, Zeppelin, Beatles, Stones, Santana, Woodstock, Kiss, Frampton, Robert Randolph, Grace Potter). This session was born from a project at Loyola Marymount University where Eddie and the band recorded their first single together “Hello/Goodbye”. This prompted a new relationship so the band & Eddie could finish an EP. Before the project was done, Eddie needed a band to do a session in France for a Recording Workshop for some of the worlds top young Producers.

So Olio got on a plane and while there, they laid down the foundation tracks for the France Sessions EP. More importantly they wrote two new songs while there. One of which is “Rich People Problems” which Eddie loved and had the band record it immediately! old school style, no click track, just push record and go! The song is now a staple in the live shows and shows the raw energy of the band as well as their groovesmanship. the second song “Round & Round” can be heard on their 2014 release “Untitled.”

2011 is what kind of started all of this good fortune. Olio won the Emerging Artist Competition held by Rusty’s on the Santa Monica Pier. They were the only band to play the Twilight Dance Series twice in one summer, opening for Dawes with Jackson Browne in front of a crowd of several thousand music lovers. Shortly there after bassist Kelley Hill joined the band and they have been non-stop ever since.

Other accolades include the celebrated release of their 2010 single “Get It Good” following the success of the 2009 11 song album “Living The Dream.” The songs are dynamic ranging from the nylon stringed sweetness of “Completely Beautiful” about the profound impact of becoming a parent (received an Honorable Mention Award in the 2008 West Coast Songwriters International Competition) to a hard rock/rap collab that already has 20,000 NJ Devils fans shouting “Here We Go” at the Prudential Center. Their homage to the mamacita de futbol aka “Soccer Mom” inspired one impassioned UK critic to call them “sexist and subtle as a sledghammer.” (Olio still thinks Benny Hill, John Cleese and Ricky Gervais are funny) The sound created is rich and packs a punch reminiscent of the John Mayer Trio while thematically aiming for Stevie Wonder’s “Songs in the Key of Life.”

To experience Olio only on recording is like Vader without the Darth. Whether it’s 30 minutes or 3 hours, the energy generated by these three could power a small town (or even the lesser known planet Zeta-Reticulan5). So, maybe the question isn’t Who or What is Olio but rather When and Where?

    Naylor’s Notes: Jenny Leigh

Hanging out on the porch swing just picking on that old mandolin.  Thinking about what once was love, now is lost.  Her mandolin and a porch swing can sometimes be the best kind of medicine to get over a broken heart.  Check out what Jenny Leigh has to say during our interview.

How long have you been singing?
I’ve been singing ever since I can remember. I was always involved in school plays and remember setting up an annual Christmas recital for my family as a kid.  I would sing and play piano while making my siblings sing, dance, and dress up as angels or Christmas trees. Not sure if they’ll ever forgive me for that..

     Which instruments do you play?
I play a little acoustic guitar, but mostly mandolin.

Describe your music interests and abilities.
I’ve always had a big voice.  Singing has been a love of mine for a long time. I write music and play in acoustic settings, but feel most at home rocking along with a full band. My music and writing style is within the modern country genre, but I’d like to think there’s a soulful edge mixed in.

    What famous musicians inspire you?
I love to belt like Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood. I remember the first time I heard LeAnn Rimes sing, “Blue.”  I was being driven to soccer practice; I would sing it over and over again, likely to my mom’s chagrin. I was fascinated, and knew that with a little determination and some elbow grease, I could sing like her someday.

What is some of your best musical memories?
My first big show was in the summer of 2009 opening for, “The Eli Young Band at The Carroll County Fair in MD.. I had prepared to death, and all of my friends made “I <3 JLB” Jenny Leigh Band – Tank Tops.  They got off work early to come out to the show.

    jenny leigh tipping point

We had family in town, and as soon as I arrived to the show, a tornado warning was put in place. I got a call from my upset parents that they were going to be late because our house and entire neighborhood had just been hit by a tornado. Our neighbor’s barn was found in the next town over, and there were over 200 trees down in our neighborhood, some of which were in people’s living rooms. Within a few minutes of that call, the show was cancelled and I actually burst into tears. This was hysterical and awkward because I don’t cry often, and my band didn’t know me that well.

The person in charge took pity on me and said that if I wanted to perform half of my set IMMEDIATELY that I could still play so I jumped up, and performed a few songs as people sat in ponchos in the mud and watched. The Eli Young Band came out of their trailer to watch the performance and gave me two thumbs up when I was done.

That was enough for me! Then I went home with all of our family in town, and we sat in our tornado-destroyed house and popped open a cooler with food & drinks in the candle light.

I was a finalist on CW’s The Next two summers ago, and John Rich was my mentor. It was a great experience. He came to Baltimore and practically lived with me for 72 hours to get me ready for a performance at The Hippodrome.

He surprised me while I was at a restaurant with friends by arriving as a server with a tray of crabs. We had a funny few days together, and after the live performance in front of thousands, I literally tripped over some cables back stage and fell. There was a production staff member working the lights that saw it and instead of trying to catch me, he did the “Darriah playing volley ball” arm out half attempt as I laid there looking like the, “wicked witch of the west,”  with my feet sticking out of the curtains.  At least he was the only person who saw. Besides, I consider falling on stage to be a rite of passage!

I’ve been lucky enough to have a couple of great shows recently, including performing at The 2014 CMA Festival in Nashville and most recently opening for Cole Swindell in Ocean City, MD. I’d have to say that was my favorite performance yet because it was a sold out audience, people really responded to my music even though many of them had no prior knowledge of me as an artist. I got to share original material that I feel represents me as an artist.  I actually sold a lot of merch! Moving on up… 🙂

What public events do you have coming up?
I host a writer’s night every Wednesday at Nashville Street Tacos on the 2nd floor lounge. I have 2 dates scheduled for the writer’s showcase at Soul Shine Pizza on Sept 9th and 16th. The next big ticketed show will be on Oct. 14th at Exit/In. More details to come on that one.  It’s going to be a great line-up!

What would you say to beginner musicians who are nervous?
Fireball shots!  Just kidding!  Nerves are a good thing!  Just learn to use that energy to your advantage.  I feel like I get a couple of extra notes out of my range when I have that energy to tap into!

How do you balance your music with your family and friends?
Balance is definitely difficult, but I am fortunate that in Nashville, TN.  My friends are also invested in music so we share a bond, and support each other much like a family.  Since moving here in October, it’s been tough to keep in close touch with folks back in Baltimore, but I go back whenever I can, whether it’s for shows or family vacation, or both!

I have two nieces and it’s hard to be away from them because I feel like I miss so much between visits but I’m looking forward to spending some time with them, and the rest of my family this holiday season!

Should we be expecting anything new to be released?
We filmed a music video for “This Time” from my recent EP, “Tipping Point” which is available on YouTube, and is being put into full rotation on ZUUS Country T.V.
