Loose Buttons has today released their new album titled ‘What’s On Outside’. I’ll start with a singular description of this album by saying that this is a set of ‘travel tracks’ What I mean is you get in the car, push play, and simply go. Zone out and catch in those glorious guitar fueled and ‘adrenalinely’ written, each song retains a personal style that collectively becomes a musically coherent piece in which every track is a single and every single makes a modern classic with something for everyone and filler for none. This is what music is and it ain’t pretty. It’s loud. It’s what’s on outside, and it’s loose.

About ‘What’s On Outside’
Loose Buttons are a New York four-piece whose sound has been described as both “a garage-rock good
New York four-piece Loose Buttons have returned with their “thoughtful, sun-dappled garage rock” (The Fader) on breezy new single “Window Seat (Freak You Out),” from their upcoming sophomore album What’s On Outside (October 22). Produced by Hop Along guitarist Joe Reinhart (Beach Bunny, Joyce Manor, Modern Baseball), “Window Seat (Freak You Out)” thematically centers on rejecting a bubble of comfort and complacency while such rampant injustice persists. With lyrics like “sweet old intrigue, the shipwrecked dreams of modern kids, are we too late,” Stereogum also calls it a “bittersweet elegy to youth.”
The new song and forthcoming album follow Loose Buttons’ 2020 debut Something Better, which led NME to call the group of native New Yorkers a “new artist we’re going mad for.” After a sold-out 450-capacity album release show at hometown venue The Dance in February 2020, a series of cancelled shows naturally followed; and the writing process for What’s On Outside began. Not unexpectedly, the album draws from the ever-present realities of loss: of people and dreams, of stability and contentment, and how to take stock of all that loss head-on without ultimately losing yourself. Early 2021 found the band briefly relocating from their beloved New York to Philadelphia, where What’s On Outside was recorded with Reinhart at his Headroom Studios. A full track list for the resulting ten-song collection is below.
About Loose Buttons
New York four-piece Loose Buttons have been deemed among “the best guitar-pop bands” (Stereogum) and a “new artist we’re going mad for” (NME) following an ascendant pre-quarantine string of hometown shows that culminated with a sold-out headlining date at 450-capacity NY venue The Dance. Now bringing their “thoughtful, sun-dappled garage rock” (The Fader) back with production from Hop Along’s Joe Reinhart (Beach Bunny, Joyce Manor), Loose Buttons’ upcoming sophomore album What’s On Outside grapples with the realities of loss in our current moment…of dreams and people and complacency and stability…and how to take stock of that loss head-on without ultimately losing yourself. Out October 22, the album has earned early support from NPR Music, SPIN, Brooklyn Vegan and more.
